My husband and I haven’t moved in 19 years. The last time I moved, and the only time my husband had ever moved, was when we got married at 19 and left our respective childhood bedrooms and moved into our first apartment with practically nothing. So really we had no idea how much was involved in moving.
We both have health problems and bad backs, and I was recovering from surgery. So there was no way we could have moved by ourselves, and we didn’t want to burden our friends and family with helping us. We did a lot of research on moving companies, and the reviews scared us - “lost” stuff, majorly damaged stuff, significant damaged property, extra charges, dragging feet to prolong time to get more money. We were so stressed and overwhelmed trying to pick a company. Lots of yelping and googling later, we ended up on movebuddha, and Best California Movers was one of the recommendations and the first to reach out to us. We checked their Yelp, Google Reviews, and BBB rating. We were happy with what we read. Going over the details with Chris really put us at ease. Their prices are competitive, better than some, higher than others, but we do believe you get what you paid for. So we booked with them.
The 3 moving guys were very professional workhorses. They never stopped except for 2 short breaks and lunch (they were with us almost 10 hours). They disassembled and reassembled multiple IKEA cabinets, our bed, and our recliner couch. Not having to worry about putting it all back together and knowing we would be able to sleep in our bed was a lifesaver. They also removed some furniture that the previous tenants left behind.
They were extremely careful and wrapped everything. One or two pieces of furniture and door frames got dinged, but nothing major or unfixable. Had it been us and our family and friends who are not professionals, I’m sure the damage would have been substantial.
It is a chunk of change to hire movers, but so worth it. We were exhausted from packing and moving a few things and cleaning two apartments. Having them do the hardest part allowed us to save what we had left for unpacking and getting settled — which has taken us 3 months and we still don’t feel done. So can’t even imagine how bad it would have been without professional help. We are hoping to stay in our current place long term, but things happen. We now know to save up money so we can hire Best California movers again.
