1800 Mattress started as an alternative to traditional brick and mortar mattress shopping in 1976, under the name Dial-A-Mattress. Now, customers order online at 1800Mattress.com, over the phone, and via live chat. This large-scale, nationwide company delivers over 3,000 mattresses a day from a variety of brands, including Dream Bed Lux, Hampton and Rhodes, Sleepy’s, Tulo, Serta, and Simmons Beautyrest.
The company was purchased by Sleepy’s, which was subsequently acquired by Mattress Firm. This is why you will see a mattress brand called Sleepy’s available for sale and some shared policies with Mattress Firm.
1800 Mattress offers over 40 models to choose from, including foam, memory foam, and gel memory foam mattresses. Standard innerspring models are available, as well as pocket coil and encased coils, as well as hybrid mattresses. Mattress prices range between $99-$4,399. To get a better picture, the company's average cost of a queen mattress is about $900, and it carries 19 queen size mattress options under $500 and 9 models over $1,000. So, you can buy a luxury mattress, but you can find budget options as well.
In addition to mattresses, this retailer also sells beds and furniture, like box springs, bed frames, and adjustable bases. It also sells bedding accessories including mattress protectors, mattress toppers, and pillows.

As a nationwide mattress retailer, 1800 Mattress has great shipping policies and a wide-reaching network. It offers free shipping on orders over $399 in the contiguous United States. Delivery service has four-hour delivery time windows and includes free setup. Same-day and next-day delivery are often available and the team will even wear booties over their shoes to keep your home clean. They will even haul away your old mattress if you wish, saving you from needing to pay for a junk removal service.
1800 Mattress offers a great 120-night Love Your Mattress Guarantee, to help customers make sure to get a comfortable mattress. This policy helps to alleviate some mattress-buying stress. If you don’t like your mattress, or you need a different support or comfort level, you can return or exchange it. This is valid for up to two returns or exchanges, but they must be within 120 days of the original delivery date.
Exchanges require a $79.99 return delivery fee and a 10% restocking fee of your original mattress, up to $250.
Returns require a $79.99 return delivery fee and a 20% restocking fee, up to $500.
This is a big help when buying a mattress, especially when shopping for a mattress online. Several other companies offer similar policies, but offering more than one return or exchange is a plus, helping to take some of the gamble out of finding the perfect mattress. Additionally, many retailers that offer a comfort guarantee only allow for an exchange, not a return.
Keep in mind that it can take a bit of time for your body to adjust to sleeping on a new mattress. The company recommends trying your new mattress for a minimum of 21 nights' sleep before contacting customer service for an exchange.
1800 Mattress has a low price guarantee which will beat a competitor's advertised price by 10 percent. You just have to contact them with the advertisement within 100 days of purchase.
Two financing options are available:
First, there is a 1800 Mattress credit card through Synchrony Bank. The APR is 29.99 percent; however, you can take advantage of several 0 percent APR offers, with term length starting at six months.
The second financing option is a no-credit-needed installment option from Progressive Leasing, similar to the popular Affirm option available at many online retail sites.
1800 Mattress does not have any retail store locations. It sells only through the web, and over the phone. Should a customer wish to try out one of the company’s innerspring, foam, or hybrid products before buying, its parent company is Mattress Firm, a huge retail store with thousands of locations nationwide.
In addition to the benefits of the store’s association with Mattress Firm, there are also some negatives. October 2018 saw the chain file for bankruptcy, with plans to close hundreds of stores. We are not yet sure of the bankruptcy’s effects on 1800 Mattress.
While 1800 Mattress has a great comfort trial, the one thing that customers should know is that you won't get a full refund. Shipping fees are non-refundable. Returns and exchanges also require you to pay for return shipping and a restocking fee.
You can save money by shopping many of the same brands with alternative online mattress retailers that offer free mattress returns.
Online and telesales mattress retailer 1800 Mattress has a variety of bedding brands and mattress types to order, at a wide range of price points, quality, and comfort levels. Its financing options are good, but not out of the ordinary and its delivery is great if you order within the continental United States, and don't end up returning. Parent company Mattress Firm lends itself to a large shipping warehouse and support network and consumer-friendly exchange and price matching policies; however, wider effects of the company’s 2018 bankruptcy may take years to see.
