Founded in 1988, American Mattress is a mattress retailer with more than 60 locations in Illinois and Indiana. Headquartered in Elk Grove Village, Illinois, the company sells innerspring coil, memory foam, and hybrid mattresses with varying comfort levels available. To help a wide variety of customers get a great night's sleep, this retailer carries options from brands like Beautyrest, Protect-A-Bed, Gold Bond, Restonic, Sealy, Serta, Simmons, Sleep6, Tempur-Pedic, and Therapedic. Foam mattress and gel foam models are available under the American Mattress line. This retailer also sells mattress foundations, box springs, adjustable bases, futon frames, cribs, and mattress protectors.
The company offers more than 50 mattress models, with Queen size pricing between $299.99 - $7,499.99. This variety means shoppers will be able to find a good night's sleep at almost any price point. American Mattress carries six Queen size models under $500, eight that are $500 to $1,000, and more than 30 over $1,000. This is not a budget mattress store; the company carries several high-quality options.

American Mattress offers a guarantee to make sure you choose a comfortable mattress with a level of firmness and support that works for your body and your sleeping position. After a 15 to 30-day minimum trial, you can exchange your mattress for one of equal value, or pay the difference if you want to try one that is more expensive. The copy of your sales receipt is needed for your exchange. Once you exchange, the policy doesn’t start over. It is a one-time exchange with qualifications, of course.
There are no exchanges on special orders, out of state deliveries, adjustable bases, and several other products. A redelivery fee applies, and there are no credits or refunds.
Customers have the option of purchasing a 6 or 12-month extension for the comfort guarantee. A 6-month extension is $99.99 and a 12-month extension costs $149.99.
If you find the same or comparable product locally advertised at a lower price, American Mattress will match. In the promotion-based world of mattress sales, this should ease concerns for those with mattress buying qualms.
Financing is offered to residents of Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin, through Synchrony Financial and West Creek Financial. Synchrony offers a typical in-store credit card for furniture stores with a 29.99 percent APR. Some items qualify for 0 percent interest for a certain time period. The second option, West Creek Financial, is a no-credit financing option with an 80 percent approval rate. It’s a lease, so you pay regular installments until you own it, but there is no interest. Your purchase must cost at least $500 to be able to use this option, and the company puts a $40 hold on your debit card when you apply. If you go through with the purchase, this is part of your first payment. If you don’t, the hold is released from your card.
American Mattress’s delivery policies are worth highlighting. Local delivery on mattress purchases over $500 is free. This is noteworthy as many other mattress or furniture stores charge high fees for delivery.
If your purchase is under $500, there is a set tiered pricing model. All local deliveries include two-hour windows, white glove mattress delivery, bed frame assembly, and old mattress removal.
Charges for local delivery:
The warranties offered through American Mattress are the manufacturer warranties. Mattress manufacturers offer differing warranties. Some last one year and others last ten years. The company doesn’t have its own store policy for defects. However, it is happy to help with the process, like producing a receipt (needed for the warranty company) and guiding you with your inspection set-up. The store manager will even contact you with inspection results.
American Mattress doesn’t have a store-wide XX Night Sleep Guarantee. The number of days included in your initial guarantee differs and is set at 30, 60, or 90 days for your initial purchase comfort guarantee. However, you do still have the option of extending this for a maximum one-year additional support for an additional fee.
American Mattress can deliver via white glove service to all 50 states; however out of local delivery areas, this service costs $299.99.
There are no returns or exchanges available for out of state deliveries. And, if you need a warranty exchange, there is a redelivery charge. Out of state deliveries may be pretty expensive, but may still be worth it depending on your distance from the store and the sale price of your mattress.
American Mattress is a midwestern mattress chain with better than average customer service policies, like the 30-90 day comfort guarantee to save you from tossing and turning, plus the 60-day price guarantee to save you from paying more than necessary. It sells a wide variety of mattress brands, materials, comfort level options, and prices; however, the majority of their mattress models are higher-priced options. Warranties are covered by the manufacturer policies and delivery will cost you less than $100 unless you live out of state.
