Price Range
Job seekers can use Job.com for free-minus resume distribution services, which are powered by ResumeZapper.com. The options and costs for these are as follows:
  • Basic resume distribution for 1 job industry: $49.99 (additional states and/or additional industries for $10.00/each)
  • Redistribution (redistribute resume 30 days later): $29.99
  • Firm name listing (receive email with names and locations of those with your resume): $19.00
  • Confidential distribution (name, address, and phone number removed from profile, resume, and cover letter): $19.00
  • Platinum upgrade (resume listed at the top of search results): $39.99 for 30 days
  • Gold upgrade (listed just below platinum listings): $29.99 for 30 days
  • Platinum and gold extensions (extends top listings): $14.00 for additional 30 days, $19.00 for additional 60 days
Employers must pay to post jobs, though there is a free demo they can test drive before purchasing a job slot package. A recruiter services rep takes the employer through a guided tour over the phone, after which the employer has 30 minutes from the initial demo time to test out the features included. After, that, they can move forward with one of the following options:
  • Post job slots only (3 job slots without nationwide resume database access): $349/month
  • Resume database access only: $399/month
  • Bronze (3 job slots + resume database access): $499/month
  • Silver (5 job slots + resume database access): $599/month
  • Gold (15 job slots + resume database access): $699/month
  • Platinum (25 job slots + resume database access): $799/month
Signing up for a full year will get customers 2 months free on any of the above employer/recruiter packages. Custom packages can also be tailored to a company's needs, including the option of changing the number of job slots from month to month.
Reach
Job.com includes thousands of different job sites in its career network, encompassing over 35 million job seekers with a database of 10 million resumes. According to the company, 60% of these candidates are exclusive to Job.com, meaning they have accounts solely with Job.com and are using their site to secure employment. Each month, they gain about 200,000 job seekers and 20,000 resumes.
Special Features
Job.com focuses on resumes as the connection point between recruiters and employees and so they have some special features related to resume writing and distribution. A resume-building wizard guides job seekers through the steps of creating a solid resume or re-writing a weak one. Their distribution service emails resumes directly to matching recruiters within a particular industry along with maintaining a database for all paying recruiters and employers to access. Another feature that sets Job.com apart is that employers pay for a certain number of job slots, versus job postings. That way, they can make unlimited changes to their job postings, including different positions, as long as their number of current openings corresponds to the number they paid for. This is a good feature for businesses that fill positions quickly: rather than pay for more job slots, they can fill a position and within the same month post a different listing in the same job slot.
Experience
Job.com was launched in 2001, giving them over 15 years of experience in the job search industry.
Customer Support
The company can be contacted by email ([email protected]) or by phone (877-7JOBCOM) 9:00 AM-6:00 PM Eastern Time.

The Bad

  • Resources and learning materials
Resources and Learning Materials
Overall, Job.com is not very strong in the area of learning materials. Job.com has a pretty solid archive of blog articles for job seekers, but the blog is not updated, so it doesn't measure up to other blogs and learning sites with employment news and market-trend related information. Job.com does feature a page and accompanying widget-managed by CompareTopSchools-that can help match an individual's interests, experience, and location preference (state of residence or online) to college and university programs. However, identifying information, such as address and phone number, are required to see the results.

The Bottom Line

There is no question that Job.com is an excellent network to be a part of based on its pricing options, reach, experience, and recognition. However, the review team recommends it with some reservations. When submitting a resume, the identifying information of the job seeker is distributed to several third-party sources which cannot be traced-unless the job seeker pays additional fees to have their privacy protected and to be given a list of those with their information. Furthermore, we recommend going with a company that offers a free trial for their services, rather than just a 30-minute demo.

Job.com is not my favorite site because it is not really user-friendly and it is not appealing. The job listings will just give you a big paragraph and then direct you straight to the employer. It is nice when websites provide more information.
