Attention: Vivint Internet is no Longer Available.

In March 2020, Vivint announced that it would be discontinuing its internet service product, Vivint Internet. The fiber internet product was only available in Texas and Utah.

Since 2014, Vivint has been providing varied services including smart home, security, and internet. The company utilizes a personal approach in an effort to create relationships and truly understand the needs of its customers. This system has allowed Vivint to create new and improved services to meet the ever-changing needs of its 850,000 customers.

Vivint advertises high-speed internet service at a fixed price.

The Good

  • Locked-In Prices
  • No Contract

Locked-In Prices

Some internet service providers use the "bait and switch" method to bring in new customers; they will bait them with an initially low monthly fee and then bump up the price a few months into the contract. Vivint customers do not have to worry about falling prey to the bait and switch as the monthly service fee will always be locked in at $29.99.

No Contract

Vivint Internet does not require a contract for their services. This is great for customers who may be moving or who possibly won't like the services Vivint has to offer. Many other internet service providers require a year or more contract.

The Bad

  • Lacking Information
  • Slower Speeds than Some Competitors
  • New to the Industry

Lacking Information

We are unable to find many key pieces of information on the Vivint Internet website. We would like to have more information regarding upload speeds and data limits. It is difficult to compare their services to others in the industry without this information.

Slower Speeds than Some Competitors

Exact speed varies based on location, but the Vivint network caps out at 100 Mbps. While this is decently fast, there are several other companies in the industry that offer much quicker speeds. In fact, some providers even offer speeds up to 1 Gbps, which is ten times Vivint Internet's top speed.

New to the Industry

While many internet service providers began as cable companies decades ago, Vivint was founded in 1999 as a home security business. Vivint still specializes in home security, and their internet services have only recently been developed in the past decade. For consumers looking for long-standing trusted companies, this may be a drawback. However, other consumers may value disruption in the internet service industry, which smaller providers create with their services.

The Bottom Line

Vivint Internet provides its customers with a reliable connection and decent speeds through its fiber-optic network. The company offers locked-in prices and does not require a contract from their customers. However, Vivint is not transparent with some aspects of its services such as upload speed and data caps. Despite their lack of some important information, we recommend Vivint Internet services to customers who don't mind sacrificing speed for a better, more stable price without a contract.

Vivint is over-selling and under-delivering. We were sold the benefits of the super-fast fiber optic internet service a couple of years ago by the door to door sales guy. I also saw the CEO of Vivint, Todd Peterson's quote of "“My dad told me that if I was going to run a company, I had to provide the best service I possibly could for my customers.” This is posted on Vivint's website. We got the equipment installed and it started off with decent speeds but it has just gone down hill over time because our area is fast growing and Vivint has not taken the technical measures to keep up with the increased usage. So we have just kept paying for the fast service while consistently having to deal with speeds under 20 GB more and more frequently, so bad that often we can't even stream any movies at all and when we can, we have to deal with never-ending, frustrating tech issues. Mr Peterson needs to up the ante because he put his personal word behind his company and they are making him look like a liar. I have contacted them with my concerns but doubt that they will actually do anything so we are in the market to switch providers.

We had Vivint internet for about a year and it was horrible. My husband got sold in our driveway to a salesman, and we regretted it within a weak. Our service was unreliable and would constantly go out.

The good thing is if you become a hub home then you get free internet. However they have a limited range of cell service.
