The Good

  • Quick Download Speeds on Low-Tier Packages
  • Large Service Area

Quick Download Speeds on Low-Tier Packages

With many internet service providers, low-tier packages typically have unreasonably slow download speeds. However, this is not the case with Cable One. Cable One's lowest plan, the Startup package, offers 100 Mbps download speeds and costs $55 per month. This means that Cable One customers have access to moderately quick speeds at an affordable price point.

Large Service Area

Currently, Cable One offers its services in 19 states across the country. In fact, Cable One is the 16th largest cable broadband provider in the U.S. in terms of coverage area, which means that several consumers have access to the company's services. While a lot of their competitors offer services in 50 states, some have far less availability than Cable One.

The Bad

  • Slower Than Average Upload Speeds
  • Data Caps

Slower Than Average Upload Speeds

While Cable One does offer its customers quick download speeds, the company's upload speeds are relatively slow. Cable One's upload speeds range from 3 Mbps to 50 Mbps. If a customer plans on uploading a significant amount of content to the internet, Cable One may not be able to provide enough speed to meet their needs.

  • Starter Plan — 3 Mbps
  • Family Plan — 5 Mbps
  • Streamer Plan — 10 Mbps

Data Caps

Cable One has set data caps that limit how much data a customer can use each month. If a customer goes over their monthly limit, they will incur an overage fee on their bill. The data limits for Cable One's internet packages are as follows:

  • Starter Plan — 300 GB per month
  • Family Plan — 400 GB per month
  • Streamer Plan — 500 GB per month

While these limits are decently high, several other companies in the industry do not impose any data limits on their customers.

The Bottom Line

Cable One offers quick download speeds, low introductory rates, and customers do not have to sign a contract. However, the company has set data caps, slow upload speeds, and are only available in 19 states. We also don't like that the introductory rates are only for three months, this is a very limited time in the industry. Most companies offer lower rates for six months to a year. At this time we recommend checking out other companies to fulfill your internet needs.

Overpriced for what you get. However it’s the only option where we live so we have no choice. Don’t like how they throttle at times.
