The Good

  • Monitoring Services
  • Identity Theft Insurance
  • Online Member Portal

Monitoring Services

As mentioned above, Fifth Third Identity Alert offers comprehensive 24/7 credit report monitoring and social security number monitoring along with monthly credit reports from all three credit bureaus as part of its identity protection services.

The company's service will also monitor up to three of the consumer's current or past mailing addresses, three phone numbers, and three email addresses. This level of monitoring can help customers better secure their personal information.

Customers who have a Fifth Third Bank checking account or other banking account may be eligible to receive a discount on the company's identity protection service.

Fifth Third Identity Alert also monitors registered credit card and debit card activity and customers' social security numbers on the internet as added protection against identity thieves.

Identity Theft Insurance

In the event of identity theft or fraud, Fifth Third Bank identity alert account customers will be covered by up to $1 million in identity theft insurance.

This policy covers and reimburses customers for expenses related to the theft including costs and lost wages as well as legal fees and expenses.

Additionally, those who have Fifth Third Identity Alert accounts can easily obtain online fraud assistance and identity fraud support.

Online Member Portal

Consumers can log into their Fifth Third Identity Alert accounts by visiting the Fifth Third Identity Alert website. To access their account, it appears that consumers only need to visit the website's member login portal and input a single username.

The Bad

  • Limited Recovery Services
  • No Antivirus Software
  • Lack of Website Information

Limited Recovery Services

Fifth Third Bank identity alert services offer little in the way of identity restoration.

Although the company does provide lost wallet assistance to those who become a victim of identity theft, Fifth Third Bank identity alert does not appear to help with financial, medical, criminal, or tax identity fraud recovery.

It's important for potential customers to know that many other companies in the industry offer such recovery services.

No Antivirus Software

Fifth Third Bank does not seem to provide its customers with antivirus software as part of its identity protection service.

Customers who wish to protect their computers from malicious viruses and other related suspicious activity must get their own software.

Lack of Website Information

While many other identity theft protection services are fairly transparent online, Fifth Third Identity Alert is not. The company's website does not offer enough information on its website regarding prices, service features and details, plan options, and more.

Those who are interested in the Fifth Third Identity Alert service must contact the company directly to obtain this important information.

The Bottom Line

Fifth Third Bank offers a comprehensive identity protection service that includes a variety of fraud alert notifications, credit monitoring, social security number (SSN) monitoring, monthly credit report copies from all three major credit reporting agencies, CreditXpert credit scores, credit card, and debit card monitoring, and up to $1 million in identity theft insurance.

Unfortunately, the company's identity recovery services are limited, there appears to be no antivirus software that is provided to account members, and the company does lack a significant amount of important information on its website.

Those interested in Fifth Third Identity Alert are encouraged to visit the company's website and read Fifth Third Identity Alert reviews before signing up for the company's identity theft protection service.

Fifth Third Identity Alert is fine. You’ll be notified if you have a credit check on your account. It may be a week later, but they’re keeping track. In contrast, my free service with another company’s credit was blowing up my phone as a car dealership searched for a loan for me. Hey, you had a check! Check! Check! Check! And then 5/3 ID alert let me know about a week later that I had for instance 4 checks. There are free services that are insanely more timely.

The majority of times when I have wanted to review my credit report, I receive a message that they are having problems with their system and try again later or call customer service if the problem continues. Then when you call customer service, the prompt system is worthless and it is almost impossible to talk to a real person or the service center is closed. Not a user friendly or reliable product.
