  • Monitoring Services
  • Plans and Prices
  • Data Breach Security
  • $1 Million Insurance
  • Digital Protection
  • Website Transparency

Monitoring Services

Identity Guard offers comprehensive identity theft protection services and packages which include credit monitoring services, dark web monitoring, address monitoring, and fraud alert notifications.

Since Identity Guard provides a wide variety of monitoring services, the company has a better chance of spotting potential identity theft before it actually happens.

All of the monitoring services that Identity Guard offers to help protect against identity thieves run continuously, which is designed to give customers a peace of mind.

Identity Guard provides monitoring services for everything from a customer's bank account (including checking account and savings account) to lost wallet protection and/or data breach security.

The company also provides U.S.-based customer service support to those who have an Identity Guard account.

Plans

Identity Guard offers a total of six theft protection subscription plans - three individual identity theft protection plan options and three family plan options. Members can pay for plans on a monthly or annual basis.

According to the Identity Guard website, the company offers the following plans:

  • Family Value — includes dark web monitoring, a risk management score, safe browsing tools, an online identity dashboard, a dedicated case manager, up to $1 million in identity theft insurance with added stolen funds reimbursement, and access to an anti-phishing app
  • Family Total — includes everything from the Family Value plan along with a monthly credit score, tri-bureau credit monitoring, and bank account takeover alerts
  • Family Ultra — includes everything from the Family Total plan along with a credit score and credit report and a social insight report
  • Individual Value — includes dark web monitoring, a risk management report, safe browsing tools, an online identity dashboard, a dedicated case manager, up to $1 million in identity theft insurance with added stolen funds reimbursement, and access to an anti-phishing app
  • Individual Total — includes everything from the Individual Value plan along with a monthly credit score, address monitoring, tri-bureau credit monitoring, and bank account takeover
  • Individual Ultra — includes everything from the Individual Total plan along with a credit score and credit report and a social insight report

Data Breach Security

The identity theft protection company offers two data breach business services which include data breach readiness and data breach response.

Identity Guard allows organizations to prepare for data breaches by providing them with network scans, data monitoring, employee security awareness training, an official Data Breach Readiness Guide, and other identity theft protection tools.

The identity theft protection service also provides online educational tools/resources that organizations can use to get their systems ready to protect against future data breaches.

Organizations will have the opportunity to plan out and develop a coordinated response to data breaches with Identity Guard's data breach readiness service.

The Identity Guard data breach response service allows organizations to get the help and support they need to restore their customers' and investors' confidence levels post-breach and will provide organizations with a designated breach team and in-class products to help their affected customer base after a breach occurs.

$1 Million Insurance

Identity Guard customers receive up to $1 million in identity theft insurance coverage, which reimburses them for theft-related expenses in the event that they become identity theft victims.

For example, the policy covers lost or stolen wages of $2,000 per week for up to five weeks, travel expenses of up to $1,000 per policy period, and spousal and childcare of up to $2,000 per policy period.

Identity Guard is partnered with AIG (a multinational insurance corporation that is based in the U.S.) to provide customers with $1 million in insurance in case a customer becomes a victim of identity theft.

Those who do fall victim to identity theft are assigned to a resolution specialist who will help monitor the customer's data for a total of three months post-resolution in order to protect against and prevent identity theft incidents in the future.

Digital Protection

Identity Guard provides customers with a dedicated case manager and an anti-phishing app for mobile devices to help catch suspicious activity.

The identity theft service uses automated settings to strengthen online privacy for individuals and families in regards to social media use.

Since Identity Guard offers anti-phishing software, customers do not have to pay out-of-pocket costs to obtain their own software. Many other identity protection companies do not offer as much software as Identity Guard.

Additionally, the company does promise to keep any and all customer information away from identity thieves by using industry-standard encryption.

Website Transparency

In comparison to some other companies in the industry, Identity Guard is fairly transparent on its website regardings its services, pricing, plan options, company history/experience in the industry, and much more.

The company also has an extensive, online frequently asked questions section that consumers can check to learn more about the company, alerts, and enrollment.

The Bad

  • Limited Recovery Services
  • No Money-Back Guarantee

Limited Recovery Services

Although Identity Guard does offer financial and criminal identity restoration services, the company does not appear to assist consumers with medical or tax identity recovery.

Additionally, Identity Guard does not seem to work with pre-existing identity conditions (for those who already have a stolen identity) nor does the company provide limited power of attorney. Meanwhile, many other companies in the identity theft industry do offer most or all of these services.

No Money-Back Guarantee

Even though those who have an Identity Guard account can cancel their membership/services with Identity Guard at any time, the company does not seem to offer a complete money-back guarantee policy.

According to the Identity Guard website, customers are "not entitled to any credit, refund, price adjustment, or any other discount, compensation or recompense for any partial-use or early cancellation." Refunds only seem to be available on a case-by-case basis.

The Bottom Line

Identity Guard offers a reputable identity theft protection service that includes several monitoring services, six fairly-priced plans (including family plan options), various fraud alerts, data breach protection, and up to $1 million in identity theft insurance.

Identity Guard also provides customers with U.S.-based customer service, anti-phishing software, a safe browsing extension/web monitoring resource, and a comprehensive privacy total protection suite.

However, the company's identity restoration services for consumers who have fallen victim to identity theft are somewhat limited and the company lacks a complete money-back guarantee policy.

Overall, Identity Guard has more positive aspects than negative and is one of the more reliable identity protection services to choose to protect your identity.

Though I only had ID Guard for a short time, I liked the service provided. For the peace of mind and all the information and services offered, the monthly price seemed reasonable. And yet, when I went to cancel my service, the rep even offered a price reduction so that I could continue my service (I was canceling for personal budgeting reasons). The rep was very pleasant and very polite. Definitely the service I will go back to when I can afford an extra monthly payment again. I liked the prompt notifications I received and the credit reports and monitoring I could get under ID Guard's service. And that's just the tip of their service offers. Definitely recommend ID Guard.

They do help provide some peace of mind that someone is minding the store, so to speak. If I have one criticism, it is the alerts. I have received alerts twice in the last 2 months. It is still not clear from the "details" of the alert as to what triggered it in either instance. In both cases, one of my creditors was listed (presumably that company listed has either run a credit check with one of the credit bureaus or reported to them, but it is unclear to me which is the case - that is not explicitly stated). Given the lack of details, it is not immediately obvious to me if there is something about which I should be concerned, and I am left to try to infer what was the trigger.

I've been using Identity Guard for a while now. I first found out about them from Comcast because they were offering free service to members in my area (Seattle) and I love it so much I upgraded so I could use more of the paid services.

The one thing that would make this service better (even if there was a reasonable fee to the monthly charge) would be the ability to pull my credit report once a month, versus once a quarter. Paying an extra 15 bucks each time I want to see an updated report kinda sucks. I would prefer having the option to pull my report once a month and perhaps pay a couple extra bucks a month for the service.

Identity Guard is great! My favorite thing about this identity protection is their insurance for if anything goes wrong. They will reimburse you for up to $1 million of stolen money so I have always felt prepared for any worse case scenarios that might happen. Their Ultra plan is also the best because of all the Web and social media monitoring tools they have to prevent users from clicking on anything sketchy!

Identify Guard is an extremely respectable and reputable identity theft protection company! Their 3 plans, from basic to almost complete protection, prove incredibly useful, beneficial, and easy to monitor and review. I praise Identity Guard for their millions of articles, websites, and online platforms and links that they have scanned within seconds for possible signs of identity theft - it has paid off and kept me safe and feeling assured that my online identity is in good hands! My only con is that the basic plan doesn’t allow me to monitor my credit, and the other plans seem pricy, but I’m willing to pay for quality.

Identity Guard is by far my favorite theft protection tool. They constantly monitor to make sure my information is safe, have a great stolen funds reimbursement, and have specialists that have always been able to help me if I have any questions. I could not be happier.

I have been with Identity Guard for 5 years and love the service. It alerts me if I have anything new on my report. I have peace of mind knowing that I will catch something immediately if anyone tries to steal my identity. It is worth the price!

Shockingly Awful - We've had Identity Guard for years and fortunately, never needed their help to resolve any issues. Six months ago, they send an e-mail explaining how you should get the service for your kids because they too can be at risk and you're not as likely to know about it until much later. So I take them up on it. I talk to the kids and I set up min son's account and have my older daughter set up her own. The boy doesn't follow his, so I do. To begin with, we notice another name on his public record and that takes some effort to clean up. Well, he's overseas studying when I get an e-mail saying that there's a change to his public record. I try to sign on to see it and can't so I call. They argue with me that since he's over 18 he has to call. Well, he's a tad far away and there's a significant time difference. So I tell them that unfortunately we'll have to wait until he's home again or can look into it himself; in the mean time, they're responsible for anything that transpires due to a potential identity theft. Within minutes I receive a cancellation for his account. These people are fine with reports and willing to automatically debit your money - but run into an issue that could be a sign of identity theft and they're no longer interested.

Two years after receiving an alert someone is using my 11 year old son's SS #, I have been sent to the SS Administration, told to pull Credit reports from the big three, pushed to contact LexisNexis who is no help and still have no resolution. IdentityGuard, is great for SLOWER than slow response to email, and calling is annoying going through the whole verification process and again telling the two year tale of my son's SS # from the beginning to another new rep. While I believe IdentityGuard is better than LifeLock, this has been one of the most frustrating experiences of my life. I would never recommend IdentityGuard to anyone, and advise steer clear. If anyone has a better solution please by all means please advise as this company next to LifeLock is the armpit of Identity monitoring.

I like Identity Guard because they offer a family plan at a very reasonable rate and I think that they do a excellent job of monitoring your information What I dislike is the contact of updates about your account

This company has hijacked my browser's start-up by opening an extra tab to pimp their service. This tab drags down the time it takes for my browser to open. I've contacted the company with no answer forthcoming. I've contacted FireFox with no response. This is despicable predatory behavior.

Terrible customer service - for years, I was able to get reports but now identity guard cannot pull all my reports - will not find out what is the problem. In fact, they have emailed me many times to call them - I thought they were able to pull over reports - no! They even called me today just to leave me on hold for 15 minutes!!!!!

I used Identity Guard for many years and was pretty happy with it. Then they updated both the app and their web interface to a very clunky system and removed certain functions, such as the credit analyzer tool. I cancelled and switched to a competitor. Such a shame, as the old interface and app were very useful.
