Complete ID, formerly known as Premium Identity Protection, is an identity theft protection company that was founded in 1996 and is based in Austin, Texas. Complete ID's goal is to "deliver complete peace of mind at the best possible price." While similar identity protection products will range between $19.99 to $29.99, Complete ID is offered for $8.99 for Executive Costco members and $13.99 for Costco Gold Star members.

The company is partnered with Costco which is why it provides a discount for its identity theft protection services to Costco members. Complete ID also offers 12 different monitoring features, U.S.-based certified restoration, and up to $1 million in identity theft insurance.

Affordable Plans

Complete ID's identity protection plans start as low as $8.99 per month for Costco members. For an additional $2.99, Executive Costco members can obtain child monitoring services. Gold Star members can obtain child monitoring services for $3.99 per month. Consumers who are not Costco members may take advantage of Complete ID's services for $19.99 to $29.99 per month. In comparison to other identity protection services, Complete ID provides some of the most affordable protection plans. 

Monitoring Services

Complete ID offers a large number of monitoring services, including credit monitoring from all three major credit bureaus (Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion), financial account monitoring, criminal records monitoring, non-credit identity monitoring, dark web surveillance, payday loan monitoring, and social security number monitoring. If any suspicious activity is detected, the company will issue a fraud alert to the customer. Complete ID also provides a variety of other services included in its identity theft protection product. These include annual credit reports from all three credit bureaus, monthly VantageScore credit score updates (involving customers' monthly Equifax credit report), and 24/7 customer support. 

Identity Theft Insurance

Complete ID provides customers with up to $1 million in identity theft insurance with no deductible. This policy covers and reimburses expenses if an identity theft situation, like a data breach or any other form of identity abuse, occurs. Complete ID also provides full-service identity restoration as well as lost wallet replacement assistance.

Complete ID does not provide a number of important identity theft protection services, including medical and tax identity recovery. It is unclear whether or not the company treats pre-existing identity theft conditions, provides anti-virus software, or offers limited power of attorney. According to its website, Complete ID also does not provide credit card, checking, or savings account activity alerts, data breach notifications, a service guarantee for lawyers and experts, or investment account activity alerts. 

The Bottom Line

Complete ID offers a number of affordable identity theft protection plans, several monitoring services including financial account monitoring, credit monitoring for the major credit bureaus, as well as social security number monitoring, and up to $1 million in identity theft insurance. The company also provides a variety of fraud alert notifications, annual three bureau credit reports, and 24/7 live customer support. However, Complete ID fails to provide a number of important identity theft protection services including medical or tax identity recovery or anti-virus software. The current medical insurance monitoring is limited to 2 account numbers. Since Medicare is issuing new cards with a new account number, provision should be made o monitor the old and new number. Suggest this monitoring be opened to 3 account numbers

When i needed there help getting my credit report when I was going to buy a new car they said i needed to log in i told them i can't I've never been able to get logged in since day one they said sorry waste o f my money!

After the husband enrolled he went to enroll his wife. Complete ID was not able to access the wife's credit file. Called the representative for a solution. Representative accessed the credit file for the wife but was unable to proceed with the enrollment for the wife. Told to wait a week for the system to resolved. Husband promptly cancelled his enrollment.

It was easy to change credit card numbers, but I don't always remember which ones I entered. We had one of our credit cards cancelled by someone else, but didn't get any notification. We have had 4 Synchrony cards compromised, but they weren't reported to us. It could be that they aren't the cards on our file.

Customer service was very good. What I am not happy was the password that I had been using, for some reason , was invalid. Using the Forget the Password option was no help. This option kept telling me the new password did not match. I had to call customer service to resolve it. Frustrating.

I switched from Experian to complete ID because of its competitive pricing. You get what you pay for. Experian offered a more up to date credit report which let's you know how you are doing credit wise.

I was so frightened about the prospect that someone could possibly be using my name or financial info that I tried to do a number of things on my own to make sure. I was having an awful time and then I saw this service in my Costco booklet. I am so glad that I called. I now know just where I am at and, thankfully, it was all a false alarm. Huge weight lifted! I had so many questions that I am surprised I did not wear those nice people out who were on the phone with me. Every one of your customer service people were so nice, so patient and so helpful. I had an alert that an email account was compropmised. It was an issue that was not a direct threat on my identity, BUT, it is important to take care of the small things before they get critical. The gentleman who guided me through the issue was clear, concise and reassuring that this was not an attack on my identity. The issue was resolved by an email password change. I received a GoBank.com debit MasterCard in the mail. I called Complete ID that evening. They took all relevant information. The next day a rep, from Experian, called back. We called the bank together. GoBank must be getting a lot of calls. They had a fraud line option and the rep closed the account immediately. The service from Complete ID was very helpful and quick. Glad I signed up with them.

Things aren’t working well. The app has been unable to load any content or reports or scores for several days now. Three calls to customer service and they’ve said it’s a known problem and they’ll call me when it’s fixed. So far, nothing. They also offer access through a web browser but it’s had its own issues and I’m paying for a service with an app, I want the app to work. Still, after unsuccessful attempts to buy more updated three bureau report through the app, I logged in online and tried the same with no success. A few days later, I saw they had charged my credit card anyway and I called customer service and was told the report was available online now, which it suddenly was (and dated two days after I had tried to buy it). During my first two calls to customer service neither rep was able to pull a report either, though they did offer to do so at no cost since the app wasn’t working. Bottom line: If they don’t fix the app soon there’s no reason to keep their service. Now, for $8.99/month as a Costco exec member, I think their offering is competitive assuming things are running. Other services give you more. For example, I had Privacy Guard before Complete ID and PG issued a three bureau credit report every month at no extra charge. Complete ID wants $9.99 each time. They do give you one “free” report per year but so do all three credit bureaus, so nothing special there.

Just cancelled. Disappointed in Costco to promote and offer such a bogus product. I but a fraud alert on my credit report at Experian's web site and was notified by Capitol One CreditWise the next day that there was a change made to my report. The information came from Transunion. Incompetent and inexcusable that Complete ID would not have the change and update to my account immediately. A big waste of money IMO. You could be wiped out waiting for a notice from them.

I had a notice that a credit card was issued in my name from completeid on Saturday. I called completeid and a yawning gentleman gave me incorrect numbers to call to stop what was happening. The 'restoration' team doesn't work on the weekend when in fact fraud most likely occurs. They were supposed to call me back. I have called every day since last Saturday and no one has called as yet. I have spent over 22 hours online and on the phone trying to get this resolved. You cannot every reach experian equifax or transition by telephone. Two our of three of these credit bureaus websites were down between Saturday evening and sunday. So a credit card was issued since it was first reported with a credit line of $5k. Completeid was of NO HELP AT ALL. At this moment I just hung up on the supervisor at completeid who gave me the same I'm sorry story and said she would have someone call me immediately. That was hours ago. Don't bother with this company and am shocked at CostCo for offering them as a service.

I signed up for Complete ID as part of a study and now I can't get into the website and when on hold I'm on hold for over an hour at a time before giving up. When trying to change my password it goes to an error screen. Complete ID is the worst!!!

I opened Costco complete ID account 10minutes back. After opening account, I was logged out soon after, and now I can't log back in with my userID and password. Tried to reset the password, but, it doesn't send any e-mail to reset password. I tried to call customer service but no body picks the phone, it's a dead system. I want to close the account, but, don't know how I can.

Cannot get in contact with anyone when calling their phone number. You're placed on hold for hours at a time and then you get disconnected. I final had to just request my back to block to automatic withdrawal to cancel. My account was locked right after I signed and I requested a new password but I never received anything. I was never able to access my credit. Worse company ever!

Please don't waste your money, your time and your high valued personal information. This company will sell your information, soon after your sign up with them, be prepare for tsunamis of telemarketing calls and offers nationwide. Also, it seems they cant even get there stuff right, three times they kept charging my card with wrong billing address despite having given them the right one. I ended up signing up with wells fargo ID monitor and getting better result and no sale of private information to third party.

The complete ID generates suspect information, and does NOT provide any actionable information. I've had the service for awhile. I received an identity notification. I login and Complete ID tells me in a notification that they found my email address and some password on the internet. They suggested I change my password. I called and worked my way up thru a supervisor to find out about this so called information. #1 - Complete ID cannot tell me where they found this information. This is a problem as it does not give me any actionable information so that I can access the validity of their information. Was this information garnered from the dark web, or Jim Bo's prank site on youtube. #2 - They have found my email address and a password on said "bad site." However, they cannot, or will not tell me what this bad site actually lists the password as! The reason the above information is important is it is crucial in me determining IF this is a legitimate threat. My email address is ALL OVER the internet as I am a business owner with published email address. That same email address is used on at least 70-90 different accounts. How am I to determine which account needs the password changed on, if they will not tell me which password they uncovered, nor the site being referenced. As far as I know, it could be Billy Bob at complete ID sitting in a back room trying to make customers feel like they are getting value out of the service they are paying for. (Obviously not possible with a legitimate business you say....tell that to Wells Fargo Customers that had Millions of bogus accounts created in their names by a fine upstanding business!) Bottom line, complete ID provides no useful information that a customer can actually use to determine if they are subject to a breach. If there system is not advanced enough to copy down said information, or tell me where said information is supposedly located, its worthless. I will not change my individual passwords on 70-90 different sites. We have cancelled our service. We would still be a customer had I received what I thought I was paying for: Dear MR XXX, We have found your email listed at this site: www.URL.com It is listing this password (specific password) We encourage you to take appropriate action and change your password for this site. Instead what I got was nothing but questions, and the realization that I'm not actually getting what I am paying for.

i ordered a fan through the costco website recently, the next thing you know my Chase Freedom credit card's information is stolen. I was so glad that my bank contacted me immediately about the suspicion usage on my credit card. I am never going to shop on the costco website ever again.

if you need to reset your password they send u a link . PROBLEM , it doesn't work with Microsoft web browser EDGE . so u cant reset your password . call customer service , they admit to the problem and suggest you download another browser like google chrome and start using that . if these guys cant even get their website to work with the #1 used browser in use , can u trust them that there software well actually work to protect your identity ? no wonder these guys have some of the worst reviews out there . Costco needs to allow members to rank this service on their website.

I actually had my identity stolen thanks to a leak by the federal government. Over 50K in credit card damage. I purchased the Costco Complete ID right afterwards and they have lead me step by step on how to recover and prevent this from happening again. They answer the phone 24-7 and have always been super helpful. And so grateful to this company and will continue to use them.

Like all of Costco's other affiliates, the company is first class. The negative review above is obviously by one of their competitors who are threatened by this Costco partnership and trying to discourage Costco members from signing up. They even recommend themselves. Shameful! I'd be surprised if they even print this review, unless they just don't bother to read it first.
