One Kings Lane was founded in 2009 and is currently headquartered in San Francisco, CA. They operate fully online and their business model is one of curated flash sales, meaning that they offer short-term sales of discounted items. New sales are scheduled every 72 hours. Items featured in the sales may be close-outs from their vendors and some of these items are not eligible for return.

Top Ranked Companies

The Good

  • New and regularly changing inventory with new sales every 72 hours
  • Discounted prices on a variety of home accessories, décor pieces and furniture
  • Social media tools help customers follow new sales
    • Facebook
    • Twitter
    • Pinterest
    • Instagram
    • iOS app to help share interesting items with friends and to set reminders for upcoming sales

The Bad

  • Customer service
  • Transparency
One Kings Lane fails when it comes to their customer service. Our review team poses as potential customers and attempts interactions with the companies we review as prospective customers with a variety of different scenarios which would reflect what might be experienced by others. We use as many of the tools published by the companies themselves to interact. In this case, email inquiries went unanswered for 6+ business days. Phone inquiries were equally frustrating when representatives could not respond to simple inquiries beyond what our review team saw in their browsers. For a company with a flash sale format, this is troublesome, especially since many items are not eligible for a return. General information is scarce and timeframes for deliveries are based upon individual products. Transparency would help clear up some of these challenges and confusion.

The Bottom Line

Our review team suggests caution when purchasing from One Kings Lane due to the lack of customer service, lack of transparency and the lack of general information about shipping and delivery costs, timeframes and expectations. They recommend that should you decide to purchase from One Kings Lane, that you should be very sure about the purchase, especially with the limited return policy.

The website showed 10% off the entire purchase, however, the code didn't work. They made me purchase everything and then refunded me the 10%. Major pain. Took several phone calls with long hold times. Five days after the purchase, the items went on sale and they would NOT price adjust! The items had not even been delivered yet. I've never dealt with a company that would not price adjust within 30 days of purchase. That makes me not want to shop here anymore.

I like some of their furniture, but they have some funky stuff. Like green velvet couches. It is hard for me to find as much stuff I like as I do in other stores.
