When can I enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan?

Most American citizens and permanent residents become eligible and apply for Original Medicare, a federally administered health insurance program, when they turn 65. Once you’ve signed up for both parts of Original Medicare (Medicare Part A and B), you have the option to substitute a Medicare Advantage (Medicare Part C) plan from a private insurance carrier. You can make this change during the Initial Enrollment Period (which includes three months before and after the month of your 65th birthday) or every year during the Annual Enrollment Period from October 15 to December 7.
