The Good

  • Work with Licensed Insurance Agents
  • Easy Plan Sorting and Comparison
  • Wide Health Plan Selection
  • Educational Resources

Work with Licensed Insurance Agents

When you're searching for a health plan on eHealth, you can receive assistance from licensed insurance agents. These agents will answer your questions and help you understand health insurance.

Once you've purchased a health plan, eHealth insurance agents will continue to help you work with your insurance provider. This continued service shows eHealth's dedication to its clients.

This support is available 24/7. Whenever you have a health insurance question, you can reach out to an eHealth agent by phone, online chat, or email.

Many online quote services offer similar support from licensed agents, so this level of customer service makes eHealth competitive.

Easy Plan Sorting and Comparison

eHealth makes finding and comparing health insurance quotes and coverage across insurers. The ability to see plans from many insurance companies at once instead of just one health insurance carrier is a main advantage of using eHealth.

Once you've answered some brief questions, you'll see the plans available in your area. You can sort the results by deductible, insurance provider, monthly premium, coinsurance, HSA eligibility, and more.

With so many options for sorting your results, you can find a plan that best suits your needs and meets your most important criteria.

You can compare up to four health plans at a time on eHealth, which makes it easier to evaluate costs and benefits to find a cost-effective plan.

If you prefer, you can also look for plans your current doctors accept.

Wide Health Plan Selection and Comparison

Individuals, families, and small business owners can use eHealth. The website lists major medical coverage, short-term, and indemnity plans.

Medicare beneficiaries can also benefit from using eHealth because it also lists Medicare Advantage, Medicare supplement (Medigap), and prescription drug plans (Medicare Part D).

You can easily search eHealth's large selection to find a plan that meets your needs. You also can rest assured that pricing does not vary from other sites, so you're not missing out on a deal from another site.

Before you view plans, you'll complete a questionnaire to get customized results. Once you finish the questionnaire, you'll view health plans available in your area and their pricing.

eHealth also redirects to HealthSherpa if you want to look at Affordable Care Act Marketplace plans with premium subsidies. eHealth is a certified partner with Healthcare.gov.

eHealth also lists dental, vision, and GAP insurance. GAP insurance listings include critical illness insurance, accident medical insurance, and accidental death and dismemberment insurance.

Education Resources

eHealth also offers helpful educational resources, including explanations of the parts of Medicare, Medicaid, and guides to different types of insurance. These resources can help you understand how insurance works and which types of plans are best for you.

The Bad

  • Potential Software Limitations
  • Minimal Customer Insight

Potential Software Limitations

While you can look at Affordable Care Act Marketplace plans and premium subsidies through eHealth's partner, it's not clear whether or not you'll be able to know if you qualify for Medicaid. When you look at Affordable Care Act Marketplace plans through HealthCare.gov, it automatically will let you know if you qualify for Medicaid or Children's Health Insurance Plan (CHIP).

If you're not sure whether or not you'll qualify for Medicaid or CHIP and you want to buy a plan listed on the exchange, you may have better luck going through HealthCare.gov.

Minimal Customer Insight

eHealth has not received many customer reviews on Best Company, so no recommendation can be made based on the customer experience.

However, eHealth offers a convenient way to view and compare health insurance plans.

It lists many types of health plans from many insurers across the United States. If you have questions or need help, eHealth has licensed insurance agents ready to assist you with no fee — even after you've made a purchase.
