Fitting Instructions

Payne Glasses understands that it can be hard for people to understand all the details involved in an eyeglass prescription. Payne Glasses has a page on its website dedicated to educating customers on the basics of ordering glasses online.

If you are struggling to read and/or understand your prescription, a segment of this page explains what all of the commonly used acronyms mean. Some of these include OD, OS, OU, SPH, and CYL.

Once you have made sense of your prescription, you will need to find your pupillary distance (PD). If you have not obtained a measurement of your pupillary distance from your eye doctor or optician, you can do so by following the simple measurement instructions provided online. You will also need to know your face shape and the width of your nose bridge to find the best fit.

Frames

Payne Glasses offers frames for as little as $5.95 with a cap at $26.95. We have found this to be some of the best pricing provided for frames online. Payne Glasses frames are made from a variety of materials including the following:

  • TR
  • Acetate
  • Titanium
  • Memory Titanium
  • Stainless Steel
  • Plastic
  • Mixed Materials
  • Ultem

Important note: The cost of the frames does not include the cost of the lenses.

Lenses

Clear prescription lenses

If you are looking for clear lenses for your new pair of glasses, Payne Glasses has a number of options for you. The standard option is the 1.56 Mid-Index with Anti-Reflective Lenses and is included in the price of the frames. These lenses come with free anti-scratch and 100% UV protection coatings, however anti-reflective or premium oleophobic anti-reflective coatings require additional costs. To upgrade from this lens, you can select the 1.56 Anti-Reflective Blue Blockers for an additional cost. In addition to anti-scratch, 100 percent UV protection, and anti-reflective coatings, these lenses also help to block out harmful HEV blue light.

Payne Glasses also offers 1.59 polycarbonate impact resistant lenses for a small additional cost. Due to its shatterproof nature, these lenses are ideal for children’s or sports glasses. These lenses include 100% UV protection, anti-scratch, and anti-reflective coatings. For a further upgrade, Payne Glasses also offers these lenses with blue light blocking capabilities.

Light-responsive lenses

For those looking for light-responsive lenses, Payne Glasses offers a standard 1.56 Photochromic Digital Free Form Anti-Reflective Lenses. These lenses come with the anti-scratch, anti-reflective, and 100 percent UV protection coatings as well as a brown or gray auto tint when worn in direct sunlight.

The upgraded version of these lenses is the 1.56 Photochromic Digital Free Form Anti-Reflective Blue Blockers. In addition to the aforementioned features from the standard lenses, they come with an additional HEV blue light blocking coating

Sunglasses and tinted lenses

For individuals looking to purchase a customized pair of sunglasses online, the standard 1.56 Digital Free Form Color Tinted Anti-Reflective Lenses cost between $4.95–$41.85 and come in gray, brown, and green.

If you prefer a gradient lens, prices range from $6.95–$45.95 with colors transitioning from dark to light starting at the top of the lenses. For official polarized lenses prices vary from $30.95–$76.90. All of these lenses come with anti-scratch, anti-reflective, and 100 percent UV protectant coating.

Discount Pricing

Throughout the year, Payne Glasses provides a number of different discounts and promotions. During the time that this was written, a 10 percent discount was being offered on the entire site. This applied to both prescription eyeglasses and sunglasses.

Giving Back

One perk that sets Payne Glasses apart from a number of other online eyeglasses and sunglasses retailers is that for each pair of glasses that you purchase, Payne Glasses will manufacture and donate a brand new pair of glasses to someone who is financially not in the position to purchase glasses. Not only is Payne Glasses giving back to the community, but when you buy glasses from them, you are too.

The Bad

  • You Pay Shipping
  • No Contact Lenses

You Pay Shipping

When ordering glasses online through Payne Glasses, you should know that you will be covering the shipping cost. Other companies in the online eyewear industry provide free shipping and returns. Unfortunately, this is not a service provided by Payne Glasses. If you decide to return your glasses, you will only be refunded 50 percent of the paid value, or you will be given a 100 percent price match for another pair of glasses of equal or lesser value from its online inventory.

No Contact Lenses

Many times those who wear glasses like to have the option to wear contact lenses as well. Payne Glasses does not sell contact lenses online.

I went with the cheapest options just to try out the company and the glasses that they sent me are pretty much a joke. They look and feel like toy glasses. The lenses look like dollar-store plastic. On the up side they got the prescription right and the glasses came within 2 weeks, much faster than my (8 times as expensive) local optician's glasses. I would advise to try and research any frame that you choose so that you don't get stuck with glasses like mine that look like they belong on a Mrs Beasley doll. If you don't use your glasses all the time and just use them to read or for driving, you might be alright going with this bargain-basement choice.

My first pair if glasses were perfect. The next time was a nightmare. They absolutely could not get my progressives right, even though the prescription had not changed. The glasses they sent gave me a headache after a few minutes. After sending pictures back and forth and sending a copy of my script and three attempts, I finally gave up. Like another customer they had the audacity to suggest it was my prescription, but my glasses made a a retail store using same prescription are perfect. The customer service was horrible. I was in tears dealing with them. The kicker...to cover yourself for their possible mistakes, you have to pay extra for your glasses up front or expect to only get a 50% refund.

Fake promises/advertising to trick people to buy. Before buying, it was said "3 to 5 business days to prepare the glasses and 14 to 21 days for standard shipping". As of today its 6th business day and my item is still enroute to their warehouse/shipping etc. If you have 1 or 2 months to wait, may be a good buy. Still hasn't recieved the product to comment on the quality. Till now the costumer service is very bad.

Hi Dr. San Tosh! We are so sorry to hear this. Our total turnaround time for glasses is 14-21 days which includes production time as well as shipping time. We do not see any prior communication between you and our customer service team. Would you be able to provide us your order number so we could look further into this? Thank you!
