Bowflex began in 1986 as an exercise equipment company that wanted to bring the gym to people's homes. Since its opening, Bowflex has received multiple awards, including the ISPO 2018 Award in the Health and Fitness category and the IDA Design Awards Silver Winner of 2017 in the Outdoor and Exercise Equipment category.

Bowflex offers a variety of exercise machines, including the following:

  • Max trainers
  • Home gym multipurpose machines
  • Treadclimbers
  • Treadmills
  • Ellipticals
  • Lateral trainers
  • Hybrid velocity training machines
  • Weight benches

In addition to weight machines, Bowflex offers smaller exercise equipment and accessories, including kettlebells, machine mats, blender bottles, hand grips, and more.

The Good

  • Financing Options
  • Free Training Apps
  • Return Policy
  • Protection Plans
  • In-Home Assembly Service

Financing Options

Bowflex hopes to make its products more affordable with its Bowflex credit card. If you're approved for the credit card and use it to purchase Bowflex products, you will pay no interest if you pay within 18 months.

Free Training Apps

Bowflex offers several coaching, tracking, and motivation apps with each of its machines. With the app, you can easily keep a fitness journal and record your progress over time. You can also receive rewards for hitting key milestones and achieving your goals. Plus, Bowflex's apps sync your workout data with Apple Health, MyFitnessPal®, and Under Armour Record.

Return Policy

Bowflex's return policy is 100 percent guaranteed if you contact the customer service department within six weeks of your delivery. Your refund does not include shipping and handling costs.

Protection Plans

Bowflex knows that purchasing one of its machines can be a significant investment, so it offers an extended protection plan for each of its machines.

For example, say you purchased the Max Total machine. There are two available protection plans (a three-year upgrade and a five-year upgrade). This particular equipment already comes with a three-year parts warranty and 90 days labor. But if you purchase the three-year upgrade, you'll receive an extra three years of labor coverage.

If you purchase the five-year upgrade, you'll get an extra two years on parts and five years of labor coverage.

Just about every machine Bowflex sells offers an extended protection plan. If you've already purchased a trainer, bike, tread climber, dumbbells, etc., it's not too late to add the plan, simply call Bowflex and talk to a representative about adding the protection plan.

In-Home Assembly Service

If you're not comfortable with assembling your new equipment by yourself, Bowflex does offer an In-Home Assembly service for an additional cost. The service price will depend on a few factors (which piece of equipment, availability, etc.), so it's best to keep that in mind when putting together your budget.

The Bad

  • High APR
  • Expensive

High APR

If you choose to get a Bowflex card, the incentive is 0 APR for the first 18 months. This is a pretty good deal if you're making all your payments in full and on time.

However, it might not be such a good deal if you forget to make a payment or can't make it in full. If you miss a payment (or pay less), you will have to pay the 29.99 percent interest rate from the purchase date.

Bowflex's APR rate is higher than the current average retail credit card APR which is between 25.90 percent and 27.52 percent.

Expensive

When compared to other exercise equipment companies, Bowflex is one of the more expensive. When purchasing a larger piece of exercise equipment (treadmill, max trainer, elliptical, bikes. etc.), you can expect to pay over $1,000. And you will have to shell out a couple hundred more if you plan on getting the extended protection plan, in-home assembly service, and more.

That being said, Bowflex is known for making quality products that last. Even if you manage to find a cheaper product elsewhere, it might not last as long as a Bowflex machine or have as good of a warranty.

The Bottom Line

Bowflex home fitness equipment is the perfect solution for anyone wanting to start working out from the comfort of their own home. The company sells a variety of products, from treadmills to dumbbells. While the company might be a tad on the expensive side, you get what you pay for. Bowflex's equipment is durable and made to last. The larger machines and equipment are backed by extensive warranties (and if that's not enough, you can add a protection plan to extend your coverage). Bowflex does offer financing, so if you don't want to pay for everything upfront, that is an option.

Though this is a good brand, the products were just okay. We got a pull-up bar 2 years ago and it was busted up after the first year.

Typical TV product it really doesn't work as advertised. Great for some women and older folks but not what I needed at the time.

Love any and all of the Bowflex machines I have used but unfortunately I am not able to afford them myself so must go to a gym to use them.

Equipment is easy to use, but not as durable and solid as other brands. Seems to be cheaply manufactured.

I really never got a good workout out of their system. It was OK but not up to expectations.
