The Good

  • Educational classes
  • Assortment of goods
  • Purchase methods
  • Customer service
Honeyville Farms, specializing in freeze dried goods, truly set themselves apart by incorporating one major factor into their brand name - educational classes. Food storage classes offered allow novice food storager's to become knowledgeable when it comes down to the how's and why's of emergency preparedness with emphasis on cooking with storable foods and grains, as well as other food storage and emergency preparedness topics. For those who prefer to educate themselves with reading materials, they provide a blog with an array of information ranging from how to use their products, recipes, emergency preparedness, and putting together 72-hour kits for the family. This company offers an assortment of goods ranging from foods, including gluten free and soy products, to kitchen essentials important for emergency preparation. Their food products range in size from 20 grams up to 110 pound storage bags, perfect for any size storage pantry. Shoppers have the option to purchase products online with a low $4.99 shipping rate to the contiguous 48 states, or by visiting a local retailer. They have provided a simple method to find the nearest retailer by placing a "Store Locator" button on the home webpage. Prices are low as products come directly though the manufacturer, without the mark up's of the middle-man and consumers are able to take advantage of special offers and discounts by signing up for their newsletter, simply by providing a valid email address. There is also a page dedicated to promotions and discounted deals for further savings. We enjoy the aspect of being provided with a PDF download of their product list, as well as a printable mail-order form for those who prefer to handle purchasing through mail. Toll-free customer service hours are convenient with hours being Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. EST.

The Bad

  • TVP products
  • Disaster relief
  • Resources
This company has a lot to offer when it comes to choice food products and essentials. However, the use of hydrogenated oils can leave some ultra clean eaters disappointed with their TVP (textured vegetable protein) products. While they seem to do quite a bit in helping members choose items for emergency preparedness, we would like to see how they help communities when it comes to natural disasters or becoming involved in relief efforts. Our attempts to contact company representatives on this matter were unfruitful, as they never did respond to our request. They offer an "In The Know" section, however we would like to see much more relevant and up-to-date information concerning emergency preparedness and how to use products they offer. Currently, June of 2015, they have only five articles with the last one dating back to November of 2014, with the previous one dated in 2013.

The Bottom Line

It seems they place emphasis on educating the public on emergency preparedness, although we'd like to see more placed on survival skills as well. Prices are fair and options are pretty extensive. All in all, this is a company definitely worth considering for food storage needs.

I have had a good experience each time I have ordered though Honeyville. they have a huge variety of items to choose from. the best part is their shipping rate is amazing! they usually have a sale on certain items as well as free items for spending a certain amount. its always a bonus when the emergency preparedness food items that I purchase taste good as well. if theres an emergency I don't want to have to eat food that tastes nasty!

I have shopped a few times at the Honeyville store but it is quite a distance from me. They employees were very helpful but I found their store to be lacking. The prices on their grains are really good but you are buying in bulk and have to repackage them yourself if you are looking for long term storage. Overall, not a bad company but probably not my go to food storage store.

I have been very pleased with my purchases from Honeyville. they are a company that has been around since 1951 and that says a lot about the quality of their products. I like that I can get ready meals and individual ingredients. another bonus is their $8.99 shipping.

We have purchased their products. We especially like the cocoa. It is a good product and the benefits of needing only water help in times of need.
