The Good

  • Wide Variety of Products
  • Unit Construction
  • Universally Compatible
  • Simple Installation

Wide Variety of Products

ClipperCreek offers a variety of charger options. The company's website lists in detail all the possibilities for each type of customer and highlights the important specs of each charging station.

Costs have come down significantly for retail EV chargers, making it more affordable than ever for customers to buy an upgraded production battery as opposed to keeping the battery charger that came standard with the electric vehicle.  ClipperCreek chargers start around $400 and charge up to seven times faster than a battery charger that comes standard with purchase.

ClipperCreek chargers achieve some of the best charging times from a home charger.  Top of the line options offered by ClipperCreek can charge an electric vehicle with a gigantic battery pack in under eight hours.

A unique feature that could be an enticing draw for some customers would be the ability of dual charging. The ClipperCreek HCS-D line has dual charging capabilities, and customers can spend a bit more money to buy one charger instead of two.

Unit Construction

ClipperCreek’s electric vehicle charging stations are rated for indoor and outdoor use. Units are fully sealed NEMA 4 enclosures and hold up well under heavy weather. Chargers come standard with a 25-foot cable and charger holsters. Chargers can be hardwired or plug-in, but higher amperage models require a hardwire set up. A small lock to ensure the placement of the plug is convenient for those who have to charge outdoors.

ClipperCreek charging stations are solid, built with high quality, sturdy materials. One of the videos on its website shows employees taking swings at a charger with a baseball bat and it held up despite the beating it took.

ClipperCreek’s chargers are safety and UL tested and certified by an independent nationally recognized lab. When buying any EV charger, always look for models that are UL certified as its an indication that an independent organization tested the product as opposed to an in-house inspection.

Universally Compatible

ClipperCreek home chargers are compatible with all EV models, provided they have the capability to charge with a J1772 plug. Tesla electric vehicles are the anomaly and do not have a standard J1772 plug, but they come with an adapter so Tesla cars can be charged with ClipperCreek charging stations as well.

Simple Installation

Installation costs can vary and should be considered when purchasing EV charging equipment. ClipperCreek keeps EV charger installation simple with no additional mounting hardware or pre-wired kits needed for set up. The station comes to the customers door fully set up and ready for plug in installation that will depend on the hardwire or plug in set up of the customer. If you need to hire a professional, ClipperCreek provides a list of recommended EV charger installers in your area free of charge.

The Bad

  • No Smart Charging Features
  • Not for Extreme Cold Weather
  • No Charge Delay

No Smart Charging Features

ClipperCreek home EV chargers do not have Wi-Fi capabilities and don’t have an app to manage charging. However, most EVs do have apps where you can monitor and manage at home charging; ClipperCreek units are simple and do not come with additional bells and whistles.

If you want smart features that allow you to set charging schedules, notifications, charging history, or use your Alexa to monitor charging, the ClipperCreek chargers will not work for you.

Not for Extreme Cold Weather

ClipperCreek chargers are rugged and durable. But reviewers claim there are better options if you live in extremely cold climates as the cable does not disentangle easily when frozen.

No Charge Delay

Some buyers will want to take advantage of a charge delay feature to take advantage of charging their electric vehicles during the cheapest off-peak hours.  ClipperCreek chargers do not have this feature.

The Bottom Line

If you are in the market for an EV charger that is well-made, easy to install, and charges quickly, ClipperCreek may be the place to buy your charging station. ClipperCreek chargers can charge all electric vehicles and are manufactured in the United States with the backing of safety and UL standard testing. Chargers come with a three-year limited equipment warranty, with some models having five years.

ClipperCreek chargers do not have smart technology. If that’s a dealbreaker for you, then we would advise you to look into another EV charger brand.

ClipperCreek chargers have excellent reviews and come highly recommended by retailers and past customers. We feel great recommending ClipperCreek to those of you looking for a home charging station.
