MetLife vs The Hartford

McCall Martin
McCall Martin | Senior Editor

MetLife and The Hartford are trusted insurers and experienced in providing solutions for groups and employers. You can find good group disability insurance options through both companies with support features for both employers and employees. However, The Hartford offers more online information on its group policies and has more options than MetLife does.

While both are great companies, you may want to consider The Hartford if you want more options to find the best fit.

When my husband was on TDI they were pretty awesome with making sure he received his pymts on time. We have never had a problem with them and if they owed us a pymt it was added to the pymt deposited. Excellent & reliable especially when you are relying on that pymt to help pay bills since one is out on TDI with no full paycheck.

The Final Word

With MetLife's group short-term and long-term disability policies, employees can adjust benefit periods to meet their needs. Employees receiving disability benefits also receive financial incentives for returning to work.

MetLife also offers salary continuance and administration services only to employers. These additional offerings allow employers to find solutions that meet their needs. Employers looking to support health and wellness in the workplace can also find programs to offer through MetLife.

The Hartford offers group short-term, long-term, and statutory disability insurance policies that employers can provide employees. With its statutory disability insurance policies, it offers compliance services.

The Hartford also offers voluntary disability policies: short-term, long-term, and Disability FLEX. The Disability FLEX policies cover maternity, mental illness, and substance abuse, which are not commonly included coverages for disability insurance.

The Hartford offers great services and policy features to beneficiaries. Not every feature listed is available with each policy. Some policies include a survivor benefit, access to Ability Assist® Counseling Services, and Health ChampionSM. The Health Champion program gives you access to a health care advocate and assistance understanding your policy and how it works.

While both MetLife and The Hartford are trusted insurers, The Hartford offers more robust policy options with uncommon features like coverage for maternity leave.
