Customizable Plans

Cigna offers both short- and long-term disability plans through employers. These plans can be customized to meet the business’s or company’s needs for coverage and funding options.

Included Features

Cigna’s disability plans include vocational and active case management services. These features help your employees prepare to return to work and make their return a smooth transition.

Benefits for Employees

Cigna has a quick claims process, which allows employees to have fast claims decisions and start receiving payouts sooner.

If an employee also has Cigna’s Accidental Injury or its Critical Illness or Hospital Care insurance, filing one disability claim automatically generates claims to file for these other kinds of insurance. This means less paperwork and hassle for insured people.

Additional Resources

Cigna’s disability insurance also includes three additional resources:

  • Cigna Healthy Rewards ®
  • My Secure Advantage (™)
  • Life Assistance Program (SM)

Cigna Health Rewards ® program provides discounts on certain health and wellness products and services like vitamins, alternative medicine, nutrition, vision, and hearing.

The My Secure Advantage (™) program helps employees with financial planning. Through this program, they can work with a financial advisor for free for 30 days to develop good money management practices. To continue the coaching after the initial 30 days, it costs $39.95 per month.

Through this program, individuals can also find additional finance education and resources and help with some legal documents, like wills. People can meet with an attorney for 30 minutes to review these documents free of charge. The program also provides access to a Fraud Resolution Specialist.

The program also has a 25 percent discount for tax preparation and planning services and a 25 percent discount on attorney fees.

The Life Assistance Program (SM) focuses on mental and emotional health. It includes a 24-7 phone consultation and in-person counselling sessions. Individuals with this program also have access to free 30 minute legal or financial consultations.

For an additional cost, employers can add Cigna Health Advocacy Services. These services provide support through help understanding diagnoses, understanding health plan costs, benefits, and the claims process, and help finding good local care that meets individual needs.

The Bottom Line

Cigna provides a lot of resources to employers and to employees. These resources promote continued health, better living, and smooth transitions back to work.

Cigna’s disability insurance plans are also customizable, which makes it easy to find a good fit for your company.

While most specific cost information related to Cigna’s long- and short-term disability insurance plans is unavailable online, the resources provided with their plans make Cigna a great choice when choosing a disability insurance provider for your business.

I called in to confirm that all the procedure codes were covered. They confirmed that all of them were covered. I got the procedures, and then got a bill for over $1000. Turns out, that if you get your tooth pulled and get the hole in your head filled on the same day, they don't cover either. What's the solution, wait until the next day to get the bone graft and possible infection to set in? Absolutely terrible service and when I appealed the claim multiple times, they basically said, "You need to have the dentist submit for preauthorization to ensure everything is covered". THIS IS WHY I CALLED! Despicable and deceitful business practices. NEVER recommending this company to anyone.

Cigna have been very difficult to work with. They use too be helpful now they are just added stress when you are client that need the assistance. I have had doctors more than one to indicate my medical condition that they already been paying me one for over 15 months I get new diagnosis added an then they denied my claim. I have appeal my claim server also times still out of work and they decided not to continue to pay me on my claim. If they don’t want to go by what your doctor or doctors are sending in then they need to provide doctors for their clients to see then. Cause they basically saying the doctors you see is not good enough for them. They need a better medical board review panel.

We have Cigna insurance through my husbands employer. I do like how helpful they have been when I've called with questions or concerns. I don't like that they aren't accepted at the facilities closest to me or that they force me to fill prescriptions through their Home Delivery Pharmacy.

For as long as we have had Cigna coverage we have been mostly satisfied. Of course you always want an insurance company to pay more.

I am so disappointed by what the benefits have turned into over the last several years. Cigna used to be amazing and now the benefits have plummeted.

I am not a fan of CIGNA. They have so many prior authorizations and they are difficult to work with. Getting a live person on the phone is a series of too many buttons. Difficult and frustrating.

Cigna’s reimbursement rates are extremely low. Many providers will no longer accept Cigna.
