Low Rates

While premiums vary based on industry and pay, rates can be as low as $8.17 per week for an Aflac policy.

Fast Benefits

Aflac's disability coverage has a three month benefit period.

The insurance policy's elimination period, or time until benefits kick-in, is different for accident and illness.

In the event of an accident, the elimination period is zero days.

For illnesses, the elimination period is seven days.

Guaranteed Issue

Some of Aflac's short-term disability insurance offerings are guaranteed issue, so the underwriting process is simpler.

Aflac's policies are also renewable until age 75.

Aflac Value Rider

Customers can add the Aflac Value Rider to their short-term disability policy. The Aflac Value Rider pays the policyholder up to $1,000 every five years for maintaining insurance coverage with the policy and the rider.

The Bottom Line

While Aflac short-term disability insurance doesn't cover every circumstance, it provides good coverage for most disability situations. If you're an employer interested in offering a disability benefit to employees, Aflac's policies offer short elimination periods that allow its policyholders to receive fast payouts.

Customers interested in Aflac disability insurance should talk with the human resources department at work to figure out deductions for premium payment.

For those interested in purchasing their own disability insurance product or a long-term policy, you'll need to find another insurance provider.
