The deregulated energy industry is booming in Texas, and with that comes a lot of competition, which is great for Texas residents seeking to take control over their utility services. Cirro Energy seeks to provide Texas residents with smart money-saving options, both short and long-term plans, low, fixed rates, and 100% renewable energy options. Cirro Energy seeks to bring convenience to its customers every step of the way. This is evident in their electricity plans as well as the user-experience provided via an easy-to-use customer portal where customers can analyze energy use to see where savings can be made, access their monthly bill statement, update customer information, and contact customer support.

The Good

  • On-Site Rate Comparison
  • Average Billing Option
  • Easy Moving Process
  • Community Involvement

On-Site Rate Comparison

Many deregulated energy companies boast low rates, but Cirro actually provides an on-site comparison to their competitors, showing that their rates are lower than other regional powerhouses. This rate comparison tool allows customers to select the different energy suppliers used by Cirro, their assigned rates, and the comparison to other company rates. In all of these comparisons, Cirro comes out at least 2 cents per kWh ahead. Rates are updated daily via a third-party rate reporter, with rates being calculated based on 1,000 kWh average monthly use (910 kWh is the average U.S. monthly usage).

Average Billing Option

Energy bills fluctuate throughout the year based on climate, weather, and household habits. Much of the time energy bills will peak in August and sink in November. For customers who wish to have a more consistent energy bill that they can budget towards and plan on, the Cirro Energy Average Billing Option provides an averaged bill based on a 12-month average. This plan is enrolled in from the My Cirro online account and will generally come out the same each month, with small fluctuations. By choosing this option, a customer will pay less in the summer and more in the winter, with payments balancing out over the course of the year. This is a great option for those seeking consistency from their monthly bill totals.

Easy Moving Process

For customers who are planning to or must unexpectedly move during their contract with Cirro Energy, there is an easy moving option. Customers are able to transfer their electricity service from their existing address to their new one by simply notifying Cirro Energy, which can be a great benefit for those moving across Texas or down the street and want to avoid cancellation fees or losing their deposit.

Community Involvement

In addition to their offering a wide range of terms and energy options, Cirro Energy also has a strong dedication to the communities in which their customers live. Their Acts of Kindness campaign encourages their employees to volunteer their time in community service projects and other efforts. Cirro Energy also partners with local charities and organizations to provide philanthropic donations as well as community sponsorships. Their goal is to lead by example and encourage others to follow.

The Bad

  • Cancellation Fee
  • Deposits

Cancellation Fee

Outside of Cirro Energy's month-to-month plans, which can be 2 or 3 cents more per kWh than their fixed-term plans, cancellation fees are seemingly mandatory. These fees are between $150 and $200, which can be more than a month's electricity use for some households.

Deposits

In addition to a cancellation fee, most plans require an initial deposit made by the customer. This deposit can, in some cases, be waived, but for the most part a customer will have to put money down up front when selecting a plan.

The Bottom Line

Cirro Energy offers a wide range of plans, including renewable energy plans, and with those plans also comes the benefits of average billing, moving protection (within Texas), and competitive rates. Cirro Energy can be a great option for almost any customer seeking a reliable electricity company in Texas. Customers should be aware of the deposit and cancellation fee associated with their chosen plan, but customers with great credit can often have the deposit waived, and if a customer is planted in their location and won't need to cancel their service, the cancellation fee is a moot point.
