Projects for Humanity (P4H) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to helping the lives and well-being of underprivileged individuals and communities through humanitarian support, free medical treatment, education, and developmental assistance.

While Projects for Humanity provides aid in various situations, the company mainly takes on projects such as refugee assistance, complete care of orphaned children, natural disaster relief, and underprivileged empowerment.

Projects for Humanity also provides free medical clinics to the poor and underprivileged people in Bangladesh's rural areas. The Minute Clinic has a volunteer internal medicine doctor giving various medical treatments, check-ups to families, screenings for diabetes, physical therapy, general health advice, and more. In some cases, P4H may even provide funding for a patient's full medical treatment.

Typically, P4H requires that volunteers be 18 years or older. However, for certain projects, the charity will allow teens to volunteer (as long as an adult is present).

The Good

  • Choose Where Your Donation Goes
  • Provides Volunteer Hours
  • Tax-Deductible
  • Zakat Eligible
  • Transparency

Choose Where Your Donation Goes

Not only does Projects for Humanity make it easy to donate on the website, but you can choose which cause you want to contribute to. If you feel particularly passionate about a particular cause, simply select the cause while entering your donation. P4H will see that your money goes to those in need.

If you're unsure where to send your donation, P4H does allow you to select the category, 'Where Most Needed.'

P4H accepts credit/debit, check, or cash. However, you can also donate with PayPal. If you choose to donate via check or cash, you'll need to send it to P4H's P.O. box. You can also choose to make a one-time donation or become a P4H Advocate and make monthly donations.

Provides Volunteer Hours

If you're interested in volunteering with P4H, you can quickly email or submit a volunteer form. The form has you fill out some basic information, such as your name, gender, address, email, phone, emergency contact, age, and any special skills or qualifications you have.

You will also need to agree to the terms and conditions, such as allowing P4H (or any partnering agency) to use pictures, videos, or any other media containing your visual/audio image. This applies to current or future presentations.

Additionally, you must acknowledge that P4H or any other partner agencies are not liable and that you will not hold them accountable for any accident or injury that you may incur while volunteering for P4H.

The last condition you'll need to agree to is simply confirming that the information you've given is true and complete. You are also consenting to Projects for Humanity to add your information to the online database for future use.

Tax-Deductible

Projects for Humanity is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. This means that all donations to this charity are tax-deductible in the United States.

Zakat Eligible

According to P4H, most projects are Zakat eligible.

A practice of almsgiving, Zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam. Zakat is an Islamic term that refers to the obligation Muslims have to donate a certain proportion of their wealth to a charitable cause.

Transparency

P4H believes in being completely transparent. The non-profit released its yearly reports about all of its project costs, an evaluation of how donations were spent, and IRS tax file.

The Bad

  • Volunteer Specifications
  • Removing Your Information

Volunteer Specifications

It would be nice if P4H included more information about what kind of skills and/or qualifications it is looking for from its volunteers. While we assume the non-profit isn't going to turn down volunteers, it would be nice to know what knowledge, skills, or experience are needed for which project.

Removing Your Information

Nowhere on the P4H site does it say how long it will keep your information or whether or not you can remove your information from the database. This is something you'll probably have to contact the organization directly to discuss.

The Bottom Line

Projects for Humanity's mission is honorable, and we appreciate the organization's goal to help those who are less fortunate. If you are interested in volunteering, P4H makes it easy to sign up and contact you whenever there is an ongoing project. This requires you to agree to the terms and conditions, including P4H storing your information in the database.

However, there is no information on how to remove your information when you no longer want to be contacted for ongoing or future projects. As with all 501(c)(3) organizations, any donations are tax-deductible. Also, most projects are Zakat eligible.
