Odyssey House of Utah, founded in 1971, is the largest and most comprehensive addiction program in Utah. The organization’s mission is to empower people to heal and build better lives, which is facilitated through various substance use treatment programs, mental health programs, and a medical clinic. 

Odyssey House focuses on “whole person” treatments that can help individuals overcome any barriers they may be facing. Treatments are low-cost or free for eligible Salt Lake residents.

Variety of Treatment Programs

Odyssey House offers a variety of substance use treatment programs to meet the needs of individuals and their personal circumstances. The following treatments are available:

  • Adult Residential — a comprehensive program combining services to address substance abuse, mental health, physical health, housing, and more; treatment includes access to licensed mental health therapists.
  • Adult Outpatient — flexible services that can be adapted to individual schedules, including intensive and general outpatient services, therapy, family support groups, DUI classes, and drug and alcohol assessments.
  • Parent with Children — substance use and mental health treatment services for single mothers and fathers; daycare is available for children.
  • Youth Residential — teens are engaged in treatment by helping build their treatment plans and setting goals with a licensed therapist; treatment includes 25 hours of therapeutic activities each week, as well as other activities and skill development opportunities.
  • Sober Housing — one of the few Sober Living Programs under new Department of Human Services Licensing, providing newly remodeled and fully furnished housing for eligible residents in need.
  • Criminal Justice Program — free services for incarcerated individuals, including skill development, discharge planning, trauma informed care, sober housing, mental health, and alumni support.

Odyssey House Medical Clinic

In partnership with Martindale Clinic, Odyssey House provides medical care for individuals aged 14 and above. Martindale is particularly mindful of addiction and mental health, providing services accordingly. Medical services include some of the following:

  • Routine and preventive care
  • Medication management
  • Hepatitis C treatment
  • Mental health services
  • Vivitrol injections
  • STD testing and contraception

In addition to medical services, Martindale can also connect patients with community services and programs based on your specific circumstances and needs.

Mental Health Programs and Resources

Odyssey House offers a 16-bed program for females struggling with severe mental health issues. The program features tailored interventions through individual, group, and family therapy with the intention to assist women in becoming more independent.

In addition, Odyssey House offers school-based mental health programs to students in Salt Lake Country school districts — Salt Lake, Granite, Canyons, Jordan, and Murray. These programs and services include on-site therapists. 

Odyssey mental health programs are in-network with most insurance plans, and for those who don’t have insurance, funding can be made available through grants.
