Bright Ideas Sewing is a Utah-based Sewing studio with a specific focus on teaching children six and older a variety of practical and creative sewing techniques. Founded in 2017by Mary Alice McCarlie, Bright Ideas Sewing holds sewing camps for children of all skill levels, all designed to bolster student confidence and inspire creativity in a fun, group atmosphere.

All sewing classes and camps are hosted and taught by founder Mary Alice McCarlie, an experienced seamstress and educator with more than seven years of professional experience, as well as a degree in Family and Consumer Sciences and starting her 5th year of teaching high school sewing.
Variety of Classes
Bright Ideas Sewing offers students of all skill levels a variety of classes and tiered workshops with clear student outcomes. Unlike other sewing schools in Utah, Bright Ideas Sewing provides students with all the necessary materials. Summer Camp Classes are distinguished by the following:
Tiny Beginner Sewing Camp (Ages 6 to 8)
- Covers basic sewing skills, including how to use a sewing machine and other sewing supplies
- Outcomes of at least three projects: a small bag, stuffed animal, pillow case, and/or other small crafts
- Costs $210 (includes 3 three-hour sessions, materials, snack, and take-home workbook)
Beginner Sewing Camp (Ages 8 and up)
- Covers all basic sewing techniques, plus additional skills for Tiny Beginner Sewing Camp graduates
- Outcomes include a pincushion, wallet, drawstring backpack, and customized t-shirt
- Costs $225 (includes 3 three-hour sessions, materials, snack, and take-home workbook)
Experienced Sewing Camp (Ages 9 and up)
- Covers basic sewing techniques, as well as how to work with industrial supplies like snaps and zippers
- Outcomes include a chapstick holder, roll-up travel case, duffle bag, and matching set of knit-material clothing
- Costs $240 (includes 3 three-hour sessions, materials, snack, and take-home workbook)
In addition, there are small group classes offered throughout the school year and a one day camp each month.
