Bev is a female owned and led company based in Los Angeles, California. Founder Alix Peabody was 24 years old when she started the company during a personal health crisis, and consequently chose to infuse her products and company brand with bright, fun, and supportive mantras.

The company’s slogan, “Break the Glass” refers not only to selling wine in a can rather than the typical glass bottle, but also as a mantra to invite others to break down barriers and build others up.

While Bev’s products can be found in some retail locations, the products are also available on the company website. Peabody cashed out her 401K to initially fund her company, and recently received funding to expand.

The Good

  • Packaging
  • Women Owned and Led Company
  • Zero Sugar and Low Carb

Packaging

Bev’s wines are sold in bright colored cans with messages like “Break The Glass” and “Made By Chicks” written on them. The cans allow for faster chilling and are able to be transported and brought into areas (pools, venues, etc) where glass is banned.

Women Owned and Led Company

The owner and CEO, Winemaker, and most of the company’s staff are female. This is a company that looks to disrupt and values equality, especially in a predominately male alcohol industry. The company says, “We Are Here To Do It Different”.

Zero Sugar and Low Carb

Bev’s wines include a Rosé, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigot, Pinot Noir and Sparkling White. All have zero sugar and only 100 carbs per can.

The Bad

  • Taste
  • Availability
  • Delivery Challenges

Taste

Due to the fact that the wines have some fizz and are very dry, this may not be the wine for everyone. Individuals may find that it does not compare with their favorite bottled wine. As taste is subjective, customers should discover for themselves what they prefer.

Availability

As a growing company, Bev has been expanding, but physical locations are still somewhat limited. Products can be found in numerous stores in the Southern California area, but customers outside of that area may need to order from the company’s website. The website does have a store locator which can help customers find the nearest available retail location.

Delivery Challenges

As Bev’s products are alcoholic, an adult with an ID must be present for delivery. Customers have complained they were not aware of this, or that this policy made receiving deliveries complicated.

The Bottom Line

Bev is a female owned and operated company creating a brand and culture as well as a great product. For customers who want the convenience of wine in a can that still tastes good, has few calories and no sugar, this is a great option. For customers who require home delivery or shipping, just be aware of the delivery requirements. The company’s fun packaging and messages of positivity truly make their products stand out.
