Brides.com is brimming with ideas and advice for excited brides-to-be. Both the Planning and Advice sections are broken down by subject, making it easy to read up on a particular aspect or detail of the wedding without having to do much searching. The same goes for the blog, which is organized into 35 categories of detailed, thorough posts. The blog does feature quite a few ads but they don't take away from the reading experience. And if you're seeking visual inspiration, make sure to check out the Photos section for picture-perfect suggestions - each category features hundreds of photos to browse through.
Budget Tracker & To-Do Checklist
The site is a little light on the planning tools, though it does offer a budget tracker, customizable to-do checklist, beauty checklist and registry checklist. A recent addition is the Stationery Shop, which features an array of styles, designs and colors to choose from for your save-the-dates, invitations, response cards and thank you cards.
Fun Features
Entertaining site features include a quiz to match you with your perfect honeymoon spot and a Design Your Dream Engagement Ring feature. Brides.com does lack a few of the crucial planning tools such as a seating chart and guest list manager. While there is plenty of advice and ideas on the site, adding more planning tools would help brides-to-be put all that information into action.
Cannot Create a Couples' Site
Brides.com doesn't offer an option to create a personalized wedding website. Given the high quality of its Stationery Shop, they could really outdo the competition by offering a customizable wedding website platform to coordinate with its stationery options.
The Bottom Line
As the online companion to a print magazine, Brides.com has a vast compendium of articles and advice for future brides. Their articles are well organized and have beautiful accompanying visuals. This is the site's strength.
We recommend that Brides.com add more planning tools; most brides-to-be are now planning and taking on do-it-yourself projects for at least some portion of their weddings, if not all. More tools are needed for the site to become a go-to resource. In terms of advice, planning ideas, photo inspiration and fun features, however, Brides.com is an excellent place to spend your time.
