SiteGround was founded in 2004, and have grown to about 110 employees on three continents. They are noted for supporting many open source applications and developing proprietary software to solve problems with account isolation and speed optimization on its servers.
- Great customer support
- Free templates for Joomla,Magneto, and WordPress
- Guarantee of reliability
Great Customer Support
SiteGround offers full customer support options, which is uncommon in the industry. They are available by phone, email, live chat, and offer an extensive knowledge base for quick answers to common questions. These options make it easy for customers to get their questions answered quickly.
- Current sale prices are 50 to 60 percent off on shared plans
- Dedicated service plans are at the high-end on the power scale
- You can browse through free templates for Joomla, Magento, and WordPress supported web pages
- There are lots of tutorials on the website for users after they've signed up for hosting services
- The core plan iterations are reasonably easy to see and figure out
Guarantee of Reliability
SiteGround guarantees that their hosting services will be reliable and back it up with a 30 day guarantee. While this is somewhat standard in the industry, it should make customers feel comfort knowing that their service should not fail. However, if it does, they have a guarantee to fall back on.
- Inconsistencies on the website
- Hidden limits on most plans
- Charges for tech fixes
Inconsistencies on the Website
There were conflicting starting prices for the Dedicated Server Plan on the site. One price at $217 was shown on a drop-down menu, but the description following started these plans at $229. We would like to see more consistency in their website.
We found that the Terms of Service had hidden limits on refunds for most plans. We would like SiteGround to be more transparent with these limitations on refunds. There has also been complaints that customer representatives told some customers they did not have the ability for technical fixes, but would not let the customer talk to an IT person. Moreover, there were per-hour charges for tech fixes that are not disclosed.
The Bottom Line
Even though the complaints against the company are few, especially within the last year, SiteGround is not very transparent with some key items. We would like to see SiteGround be more upfront and clear on some of these items. Overall the service is solid and they offer some great features that other web hosting companies do not. We recommend working with SiteGround for your web hosting needs.
