The Good

  • Short programs
  • Job placement services
  • Financial aid
  • On-site child care
  • Bilingual classes

Short Programs

Programs at Pacific Coast Trade School are relatively short to complete. For medical back office and electronic assembly programs, the programs should take 24 weeks to complete. For the welder program, it should take 26 weeks to complete and the medical assisting program should take 30 weeks to complete. If continuous enrollment and attendance is maintained then programs could be completed within six to eight months. This is a great feature if you're hoping to make a quick career change or advancement.

Job Placement Services

A great feature of Pacific Coast Trade School is its Job Placement Office which strives to connect students to job resources and obtain employment. The Job Placement Office provides various workshops for students including, Job Application Workshop, Resume Workshop, Job Retention Workshop, Portfolio Workshop, and others. One-on-one counseling is also provided for students. Pacific Coast Trade School also offers an externship program to give students the most hands-on experience. Based on 2012 to 2013 figures, job placement varies from 71 percent for medical billing up to 88 percent for the electronic assembly program. Although job placement is not guaranteed, PCTS provides numerous resources to its students.

Financial Aid

Pacific Coast Trade School is committed to making your trade certification an affordable experience. The Financial Aid Office provides assistance to students in the areas of personal loans and federal financial aid. Information on PCTS' website is outdated and refers to the 2011 to 2012 school year. It is recommended to make an appointment with the Financial Aid Office to learn more about your options. PCTS claims that program prices are half the price of other schools with tuition varying from $8,000 to $15,000, based on program selection.

On-Site Child Care

Pacific Coast Trade school makes it easy for students of all situations to join its classes. One of its most unique features is that it provides on-site child care. This enables you to complete a trade program certification easily and not have to worry about finding a babysitter for each class. PCTS recognizes the needs of its students in order to accommodate a variety of schedules and student situations.

Bilingual Classes

If English is not your first language, then Pacific Coast Trade School is worth looking into because it offers bilingual classes. It is not clear as to which trade programs offer the bilingual classes or the limitations thereof. This is a great benefit to those who would like to further their education but are hesitant about language proficiencies.

The Bad

  • Outdated information
  • Students don't finish on time

Outdated Information

Calculating costs to attend Pacific Coast Trade School may be difficult without an appointment with an admissions advisor. Its Net Price Calculator is based on 2011 to 2012 admissions fees. Statistics for each program are based on 2012 to 2013 figures. Because schools tend to increase tuition each year, it is important to continuously have current statistics for prospective students.

Students Don't Finish on Time

A compelling feature of Pacific Coast Trade School is that its programs are short and designed to take 24 to 30 weeks to complete. However, statistics from the 2012 to 2013 school year show that a relatively low percentage of students complete the programs in that amount of time. For medical billing and medical assisting, 0 percent of students completed within the designed program time; 2 percent completed in 26 weeks for the welding program and 27 percent, the highest figure, completed the electronic assembly program in 24 weeks.

The Bottom Line

If you are in Ventura County and are looking for a local trade school with short programs, then Pacific Coast Trade School is worth considering. Other benefits of attending PCTS include on-site child care, bilingual classes, job placement services, and financial aid resources. One downside to Pacific Coast Trade School is that information is outdated online and it is advised that you call the school to speak with an admissions representative about your questions. Although programs are designed to take six to eight months to complete, very few students complete the programs within that amount of time.
