The Good

  • Graduation and employment rates
  • Program types
  • Federal assistance
  • Campus locations

Graduation and Employment Rates

Students embarking on their higher education journey want to know how effective a school's services and reputation are. That means that they want to know how many students finish with a degree/certificate in their hand and end up with a secure job. Carrington College has a 64 percent graduation rate, which compared to many trade schools, is extremely competitive. Through their job placement services, Carrington College has helped 67 percent of their graduates secure employment before or shortly after graduation.

Program Types

Through Carrington College, students will be able to take advantage of nursing programs, medical programs, dental programs, veterinary programs, and criminal justice programs. There are specialties that break off each of these areas of study. In total, there are twenty-two programs for students to choose from.

Federal Assistance

Not all trade schools are able to take advantage of federal assistance, whether that is through their financial or work study programs. However, Carrington College students will be able to take advantage of federal financial assistance whether it be through grants of loans. Additionally, students can take advantage of federal work study programs. These programs provide students with the ability to finance their education while also paying the debt back over a period of time.

Campus Locations

There are Carrington College locations found in eight different states. States where Carrington College is located include: Arizona, California, Idaho, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon, Texas, and Washington. In Arizona, there are five campuses which include: Glendale, Mesa, Phoenix-East, Phoenix-North, and Tucson. In California, there are campuses in the following cities: Citrus Heights, San Jose, Oakland, Pleasant Hill, Pomona, Sacramento, San Jose, San Leandro, and Stockton. There is only one campus in Boise, Idaho; Albuquerque, New Mexico; Spokane, Washington; Mesquite, Texas; and Portland, Oregon. In Nevada there is the Las Vegas campus as well as the Reno location.

The Bad

  • National accreditation
  • Unknown costs

National Accreditation

As of now, Carrington College has yet to obtain a national accreditation. That being said, they have obtained a number of regional accreditations. These regional accreditations include: Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges and Western Association of Schools and Colleges (ACCJC/WASC). Additionally, an institutional accrediting body has recognized Carrington College which earned them accreditation by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation and the U.S. Department of Education. While these regional accreditations are impressive, there is still a reason for students to wonder why the school has not earned a national accreditation.

Unknown Costs

One of the draws Carrington College boasts of include their Fixed Tuition Promise. This promise means that a student's tuition costs will stay the same throughout the entirety of their program. There are requirements that must be upheld by the student (students must remain active and in good standing). While this agreement is compelling, it remains difficult for students to gauge how much their program will cost as Carrington College does not make tuition costs public. Students will need to find out exactly how much their specific program will cost upon further research.

The Bottom Line

Carrington College is well-equipped to help students with a desire to train and study within various medical fields. They help students specialize in the specific medical field of choice and subsequently provide services to help graduates land employment. That being said, there are some concerns prospective students should be aware of. Carrington College has not obtained national accreditation; however, they do have regional accreditations. Despite offering a fixed tuition promise, it is not known just how much programs will end up costing Carrington College students. Those interested in working in the medical field and need to obtain certain certification may find value in the programs offered through Carrington College.
