- Several amenities
- Transparent website
iStorage provides some great amenities at some of their locations. These amenities add security, convenience, and value to their customers experience. Some of the amenities that we liked that is provided by iStorage include Wifi, deliveries accepted, climate controlled units, and moving supplies.
Some locations also provide some great security such as fenced and lighted facilities with onsite manager and video surveillance. These security measures help to ensure that customers items are safe while stored. While we would like to see these great security measures and amenities available at all locations, we do appreciate that they are available at some.
When you first get on the iStorage website, it looks like an average storage unit website without much information; however, when you click on the specific locations a great deal of information about each facility is listed. We like the transparency these pages provide. It allows customers to find the nearest locations and easily see if the facility fits their needs. Customers can also compare two facilities and decide which is the best value. We also like that iStorage provides plenty of pictures of each facility. Customers can easily see the units and the layout of the facility. Many of the units are available with one month free of rent, and the prices are pretty standard for the industry. Customers can also reserve specific units on the website, as well as pay their bill.
- Lack of information
- Limited services
- Limited availability
Lack of Information
iStorage claims to have "state-of-the-art security"; however they do not detail this on their website. They also seem to have more information on how to become a partner than their actual facilities. It seems that the focus of their website is not to draw in customers, but to bring in new partners to expand their growing chain. We do not like this approach, as we feel that the focus should be on the customers and their needs. iStorage provides a FAQ page and two other pages that are dedicated to partners and not to customers. We would like to see more information regarding their security and their amenities.
On most of iStorage sites they are lacking some services we look for. We would like to see iStorage provide more services such as moving supplies, locks, and moving trucks. These added services add a great deal of value and benefit to the customers experience. Customers who would like these added benefits will want to look at some other companies for their storage needs.
iStorage has some good aspects, however, they are only available in thirteen states. In these thirteen states there are only 66 locations. This greatly limits who can benefit from their products and services. Some storage unit companies in the industry are available nationwide. The states that iStorage is currently available in are Alabama, Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Virginia. We would like to see iStorage expand outside and within their current service area. Customers who are seeking storage unit services outside these states will have to look elsewhere.
The Bottom Line
iStorage provides some great amenities at some of their locations, and offer average prices for the industry. Most units are available with one month of free rent which can help save customers money. We like that their website is transparent, and that customers have 24/7 access to their units. We would like to see iStorage increase their services and security to most of their units. Some of their facilities seem to have great features, while others seem to be lacking. Overall, we recommend checking out the locations near you to see if they are a good fit for your storage needs.
