GoDaddy is known for their domain registry and web hosting services. At the end of 2014, it was estimated that GoDaddy had more than 59 million domain names under its management. They are the largest provider of Internet hosting services. With more than 12 million customers and 4,000 employees, it is the world’s largest domain registrar.
GoDaddy’s SSL certificates are a “hidden treasure” in the SSL certificate industry. We read about some great prices on their website, in addition to some great features. GoDaddy offers scalable certificates, affordable prices, and reasonable liability for your website’s protection.
GoDaddy’s certificate options are also understandable. With GoDaddy, you can protect a single website, protect multiple websites, and protect multiple subdomains.
- Website optimization
- Fast issuance and implementation
- Browser ubiquity
- World-class support
We want people to know more about GoDaddy's "total solution" for website hosting. In addition to their domain registry and hosting services, we also really liked their SSL certificate options. In the industry, we couldn't find a better solution with better prices.
GoDaddy's prices are competitive in the industry. Their SSL options let you protect multiple websites and multiple subdomains. Here are the pricing and basic features that we found with GoDaddy:
- Protect One Website:
- $59.99 per year for three years
- Security options of $100,000, $250,000, and up to $1,000,000 liability for the various SSL options.
- Protect Multiple Websites
- $134.99 per year for three years.
- $100,000 and $250,000 options for security options.
- Protect Multiple Domains
- $269.99 per year for three years.
- $100,000 and $250,000 for liability.
With GoDaddy, we fully understand the benefits of SEO optimization with an SSL certificate. Not only do GoDaddy SSL certificates increase your ranking on Google, they also:
- Increase the number of e-commerce conversions on your website.
- Decrease the number of bounces, visitors who leave your website because of no SSL certificate.
- Integrate easily with GoDaddy's hosting and registry services.
Fast Issuance and Implementation
We found that, with a GoDaddy-hosted website, you are going to get a fast turnaround time and implementation of your SSL certificate. Generally, GoDaddy will be able to issue a standard SSL certificate within minutes. Advanced certificates will take anywhere from 3 to 5 business days to issue. There is going to be a lot of email correspondence, as well as verification of your legal name, address, phone number, executives, and other information you submit with your initial request.
In the SSL industry, browser ubiquity is a very important standard. We found out that GoDaddy's browsers are compatible with all the major Internet browsers, including:
- Google Chrome
- Internet Explorer
GoDaddy offers world-class support and we consider it to be the best in the industry. GoDaddy has won several awards for customer service. We found that one of the more notable awards that it has received includes the 2013 Stevie Awards for customer service. GoDaddy has more than 13 million customers and counting, as well as management for more than 59 million domain names.
- Non-GoDaddy customers
- Lower liability
- How support information is organized on the GoDaddy website
While we recommend GoDaddy for your SSL certificate needs, we did have some questions about their overall SSL certificate process. We also had some concerns as we felt that their liability coverage was on the low end for the industry.
Let's say that your company has an existing SSL certificate that is about to expire. We couldn't find any information for issuance time for non-GoDaddy customers. Many SSL certificate subscribers might want to switch their provider and we wondered about how a reissuance works between different companies.
Overall, we were pretty happy with GoDaddy's liability coverage for its SSL certificate customers. We found that some of GoDaddy's competitors do a little bit better than $1,000,000 worth of liability. The standard, single certificate plan with GoDaddy tops out at $100,000 worth of liability. In some areas, GoDaddy's competitors keep your website more secure with better liability.
How Support Information is Organized on the GoDaddy Website
The "human" component of customer service with GoDaddy is pretty awesome. However, we didn't like how information was organized on the GoDaddy website. We had to look at articles in the support section of their website to find out how liability coverage is assigned to each SSL certificate product. We would like to see this information displayed in the product selection portal.
