With so many solar companies out there, it can be difficult to know which one provides the most value for you as a consumer. That's why we've done the hard research-- so you don't have to. We've weighed the pros and the cons and found Sungevity to be one of the top competitors in the industry. So here's what makes Sungevity a top-tier solar company:
solarhome2sungevity

The Good

  • Multiple financing options to best fit each customer’s needs
  • Personalized quote via iQuote tool
  • Insightful OurSungevity mobile app
  • High quality customer service
Financing Options for Every Customer

Sungevity offers several solar financing options, which means that obtaining a home solar system through Sungevity is possible for customers of all budgets.  With Sungevity’s loan, lease, and PPA payment options, customers can go solar for zero to little down.  Each of these options comes with 24/7 system monitoring, a 25-year manufacturer warranty on the panels, and a 20-year system warranty that encompasses the inverter and workmanship.  For customers who are looking for the plan with the most long-term savings, buying the system outright would probably the best option.  The customer will pay for the system upfront, but they will own the system and reap the long-term rewards.

iQuote Tool Provides Personalized Solar Quote

Sungevity’s iQuote tool is a very cool feature that allows customers to get a personalized quote quickly.  After answering a few questions over the phone with a Sungevity rep, the iQuote tool can view the roof of the customer’s home, track the amount of sunlight that hits their home, and give them an accurate picture of how their panels will look and function.  iQuote can also show customers how much they are going to save with each payment option.

Anytime, Anywhere System Monitoring with OurSungevity App

With the OurSungevity mobile app, customers have information about their solar system at their fingertips.  Whether customers have an Android or an iOS device, OurSungevity allows them to track how much energy their panels are producing and how much power they are using from anywhere in the world. In addition to giving customers the ability to monitor their system, OurSungevity lets users contact customer service and earn rewards by referring friends and family through the app.

Top Notch Customer Service

Sungevity has received a large amount of positive reviews on our site regarding its customer service.  Consumers are saying that Sungevity’s customer service team is professional, helpful, and quick to reply to questions and requests.  Sungevity also offers helpful options for clients who need to move before the contract terms have expired, including assigning the energy plan to the new homeowner; prepaying the remaining payments and assigning the non-financial obligations to the new homeowner; and purchasing the remaining time on the lease, terminating the lease, and asking the company to remove the system.

The Bad

  • Lack of equipment information on Sungevity website
  • Less state availability than other solar providers
Lack of Site Information

Sungevity has a lack of solar system information available on its website. While a basic explanation of each system component is provided, more technical specifications of the system are nowhere to be found. Sungevity’s FAQ section is sparse and does little to fully educate consumers on the value the company can offer. Sungevity’s website lacks a live chat option, which could provide quick and easy access to important company information.

Limited Reach

Sungevity is currently only available in 12 states, which limits the number of customers who have the opportunity to go solar with Sungevity.

The Bottom Line

Sungevity is a highly recommended option for consumers who are considering a home solar system to look into.  Although Sungevity is not available in every state and has a limited amount of information regarding equipment on its site, its multiple financing options, proprietary iQuote tool, insightful OurSungevity app, and top notch customer service are hard to beat.

Payment Options

Sungevity is emerging as one of the top home solar companies in the industry. The company offers every kind of payment option a consumer could want and makes it easy for those who qualify to go solar. Sungevity offers four different payment options:

  • An outright purchase
  • A solar loan
  • A solar lease
  • A PPA (Power Purchase Agreement)
Outright Purchase

Sungevity’s purchase option allows customers to own the system themselves. There are no third parties involved, removing any kind of monthly solar payments. The system comes with a 20-year warranty, as well as 24/7 monitoring when customers purchase it through Sungevity. Benefits of owning your solar panel system include receiving the 30 percent federal tax credit, any additional state tax credits, and an increase to your home’s value when you’re ready to sell.

Solar Loan

Customers can finance their system purchase through a loan with Sungevity. The customer will own the system and receive all the benefits mentioned above, but will pay their loan off through monthly payments. Because Sungevity has a vast network of lenders, customers will be sure to find a reasonable interest rate that matches their qualifications and unique situation. And, since the terms of the solar loan imply ownership of the solar panel system, customers will be able to receive the 30 percent federal tax credit as well as any state tax credits. This option also includes 24/7 monitoring and a 20-year system warranty.

Solar Lease

Sungevity also has a lease available if that is the customer’s preferred method of financing. The customer won’t own the system, but there are benefits that come with signing a lease, including a potentially lower power bill, a 20-year system performance guarantee, and options to help the customer transfer the lease if they decide to move.

PPA (Power Purchase Agreement)

With a PPA from Sungevity, a third party will own the system and the customer will only have to pay for the electricity they use at a set rate. The PPA option protects customers from rate hikes. If a customer decides to move, Sungevity will help them transfer the agreement to the new homeowner. Because the customer does not own the system, the partner working with Sungevity will install and maintain the system on your roof. With its variety of purchasing and leasing options, Sungevity is striving to make solar energy more accessible and affordable than ever for consumers.

Payment Options Breakdown

iQuote Tool

Sungevity offers a unique feature known as the iQuote tool. After consulting with the customer, the company uses a proprietary design tool to draft and engineer a personalized solar solution for the customer’s home. The iQuote tool generates all paperwork (including the important legal notice allowing the company to proceed with the installation) automatically. Because completing the necessary paperwork on time is one area in which other solar providers commonly fail (clients often find themselves with a system that has been installed, but not yet activated), Sungevity’s iQuote tool is a true game-changer.

Sungevity Solar Equipment

our-sungevitySungevity’s online monitoring system, OurSungevity, allows users to constantly monitor the performance of their home solar system by checking their system’s output, carbon savings, and other electricity related production. OurSungevity even lets customers track their installation process by monitoring the 6 steps of installation online. With OurSungevity, customers can monitor their solar system anytime, anywhere using a computer, tablet, or smartphone. In fact, with an average score of 4/5 stars on Google Play and on the Apple Store, OurSungevity has the highest mobile app ratings out of any solar company.

Sungevity Installers

Sungevity is known for its high-quality dealers. Local installers must undergo an extensive application process and are required to pass two quality assurance checks with top marks in order to work for Sungevity. The quality assurance checks are as follows: first, a regional representative certifies that the design meets standards. Second, a district manager certifies the regional representative’s work. This thorough two-step QA process is unique in the industry and goes a long way to ensuring that each of Sungevity’s solar panel systems is installed correctly and safely.

One of the unique customer experiences associated with Sungevity is the custom installation process. Sungevity’s expert installation team creates a custom design for each home and provides panels that rank high for efficiency, quality, and blendability with the roof of the home. In addition, all systems feature industrial-grade railing, simple assembly, integrated grounding with UL 2703 systems, PE certification, design software for quote preparation, and a 20-year warranty.

The man I spoke to from this company was a nice upbeat n friendly salesman but after they look at my property on Google maps they decided they didn’t want to bother because I have trees. If they came to my house they would see that my roof is in direct Sun all day. One tree in the backyard can be trimmed but it does not hinder the sun. I even sent them photos, showing the sun shining on my roof, but still doesn’t want to be bothered. I think it’s tacky to use google maps considering the image they use is extremely outdated. At least I’ve found a few other companies who will actually come out and see with there own eyes.

The company didn’t even want to pursue an installation on my 10 acre property ! Claimed my large flat roof wouldn’t work but I suspect that my desire to derive some economic benefit by selling back to the grid didn’t fit their model. Also stated that they don’t do installations on the ground

After researching solar companies in my area I decided that Sungevity would provide the best customer service and results for my home. Its a bit ironic that I went with Sungevity because I work for a big box hardware store that sells Solar City services and Sungevity is sold by our big competitor.
All in all I am completely satisfied with the sales people and the installation crew that I delt with. The sales person talked to me for hours and explained the different types of purchasing from lease to buying out right and I decided to purchase and get a solar loan.
I know from the Sales person what my offset would be and the savings would be down the road from the information supplied to me that was specific to my home.
My system was just powered up on July 12 and every day my wife and I check the KWH generated from the Sungevity app on the phone.
I wish I had gone solar years ago but as the saying goes “Better late than never”

The installation was very efficient. I have now had the system for 3 months and I have produced more than 100% of my energy use a month. Eager to see how it works out over time. So far, I am delighted with my Sungevity system.

I leased my system in 2012. After a lightning strike in 2014, I lost a whole summer of generating while Sungevity tried to get me a new converter. In 2015 I had another long outage. The performance guarantee is BS. It’s pro-rated in such a way that when things go south, they don’t have to pay.

I decided to go with sungevity because it looked like they had good rating with the BBB. Unfortunately,l made a mistake. l was under the impression that l could mail my payments in or pay online like every other utility bill if l do not want to have auto pay but guess what? they make you pay and charge you $15 extra if you do not sign up for auto pay! That is simply wrong. And then they have the nerves to tell you that you signed up for it! Well,l will tell you this…l’m stuck with them now for 20 years so for you that still has a choice, make sure you know what they are asking..read over every line and ask questions…my thought was that if l didn’t want auto pay l could mail it in…so now l have to pay $15 extra. Sungevity, people convert to solar to save money not to lose more money! This is wrong and if you really care about so called referral from your customers, then look out for their interests. You can be sure no one I know will be signing up with you guys!

This is the best company to use for solar panels. They measure, design and get an installer for you. My current electrical bill is $6.00 per month which represents the delivery charge. In Jan. I received a letter telling me I should get a rebate on power produced by me and put into the system, I’ll probably die of old age first.

We were lucky to be one of the first Sungevity customers in the state of Arizona. Their operation was professional from the first sales interaction right on through the years of service that we stayed in that house until the transfer/cancellation of service. The sales team was professional, available to answer questions, and not too pushy. The engineering team that handled the planning and installation was timely, courteous, and thorough. Customer service is obviously a priority for this company at all levels of service. We never waited more than the next business day to have any communication returned and when it was answered, it was usually a solution, not a hand-off to another party.

The system never had any operational errors and saved us a LOT of money over the years. But when we did ultimately sell our home, they gave us our options and then made the transfer to the new owners a simple process.

I highly recommend Sungevity for their personal, professional, accurate, and environmentally friendly practices.

This company is the WORST!!!!! they do NOT really care about the customer! and their PERFORMANCE GUARANTEE IS A JOKE!!! We have had their system since December of 2014 and we haven’t EVER generated POSITIVE!!!! We just want their panels OFF our roof and them to go away!!!! I get a call from some company almost every day wanting to help us save on our electric bill! Southern California Edison has told us they are ripping us off… PLEASE GET YOUR PANELS OFF OUR ROOF!!!!!!!!! The patent phone calls start out saying we see you are spending more than $150.00 a month with the electric company… We can help you… and then I start to tell them our dilemma and they apologize to me and then I start to get angry at Sungevity ALL OVER AGAIN…. SUNGEVITY SUCKS!!!!!! We are both on a fixed income and heaven help me if my husband passes because I will have to move because of SUNGEVITY!!! We have been told that the panels on our roof are antiquated and because the system shuts down if ONE panel gets shade! We will NEVER GENERATE POSITIVE!!! We had an arch fault and system alarm on in the very beginning of 2015 and had issues… they sent out a crew and supposedly fixed the problem… We kept our spa running thinking that my husband could have his hydrotherapy again (which is one of the reasons we wanted solar). Then we were told we needed to cut the tree in OUR backyard because it was shadowing the panels. It is not OUR TREE! We had to try and contact the person who manages the rental house that has the tree and that was ANOTHER NIGHTMARE!! After months of phone calls from Sungevity asking if the tree had been cut, and months of phone calls requesting the tree to be cut, it was trimmed, however, it is still an umbrella over our backyard and the manager of the house just says “that’s as good as it gets! I’ll see you in court! That tree was there before your panels and it’s not going anywhere!” So now we have drained our spa and it is just sitting there and we get VERY ANGRY when we go into our back yard and see the TREE and an EMPTY SPA…. WE HATE SUNGEVITY AND I AM SPREADING IT ALL OVER OUR NEIGHBORHOOD. My next rant is on NextDoor.com to all of the 19-20 neighborhoods in our area and then channel 7 news!!!! GO AWAY SUNGEVITY!!!!!

My surplus solar production offsets my utility cost from NYSEG completely and then some. And the lease fee is partially tax deductible. With NYS in turmoil over nuclear and coal electric power production and the piping of natural gas for power production, it is nice to know I have some price stability. Plus I can pull limited power directly off the 41 panels and 2 inverters under certain conditions. The installers (sub-contractors) could have done a better job. They did some damage to the house. The panels are not centered on the roof and they damaged the siding and attic access hatch. When a panel came loose in a windstorm ( I think the installers never installed 2 tie downs for a panel) Sungevity came right out and fixed it. I would like a battery pack though to store power.

my experience was very good. They explained exactly what they were going to do and then help it all occur in almost exactly the way they said it would. But more amazingly they were quite appropriately conservative about their estimates of my savings however where my electric bill had been regularly above $200 monthly before the installation they have rarely been above $100 since then and often have been as low as $22 dollars. I’m very impressed and very happy.

I see negative and positive comments here. What is boils down to is my monthly bill was $400 to $500 a month and now it is $40. I would say this is a plus. I am not planning on selling my home this year so I don’t care about the cost. They did a clean install and had it done in one day. The permits from the city is what took all the time. Via the website I can see my usage for every day, I like this feature being a Geek. I would recommend Sungevity to anyone wanting to look at solar.
