PetersenDean has been installing solar systems and roofs for residences and businesses since 1984, which is much longer than many other solar installers have been in business. The privately held contractor works to provide residential and commercial customers with high-quality solar panels and roofs, helping them take the next step towards energy independence.

The PV installer has a unique market approach because it has roofing solutions that are often part of the solar panel installation process. Residential energy storage solutions and battery backup options are available as well. The solar company believes that high standards are reached through the best quality, craftsmanship, and working materials.

A potential drawback with PetersenDean is its limited availability and lack of options for a solar lease or power purchase agreement (PPA).

The Good

  • Excellent Transparency
  • Buy and Loan Options Available
  • Low-Hassle Installation Process
  • 25-Year Warranty

Excellent Transparency

PetersenDean Solar is unique compared to other solar power companies in the industry because it discloses the price of its services. You can go to the company's website, select your state, and see pricing information for different packages and solar power systems.

PetersenDean Solar packages start off with a minimum of 6 panels, which generate 1.68kW of power, and increase by increments of six to a max of 36 panels, which produce 10.08 kW of power. The residential solar installer advertises the use of high quality, American-made products in its solar modules.

PetersenDean Solar also took the time to display the federal and state tax credits that come along with system ownership and calculate those into the price.

Buy and Loan Options Available

The solar PV company's payment options include buying the system outright or getting a loan. PetersenDean's Freedom Flex loan allows customers to go solar for $0 down with no interest or payments for the first 12 months. Plus, there are no pre-payment penalties on the loan.

Low-Hassle Installation Process

PetersenDean strives to make its solar installation process simple and low-hassle for customers. The process is as follows:

  1. Professional consultation: Consumers may calculate their savings online or call PetersenDean to get a free estimate over the phone
  2. System design: The solar energy company will measure the roof and find the best placement for solar panels
  3. Installation: The install will be carried out by true professionals with decades of residential roofing and solar experience to ensure that the system is built right and the roof is protected
  4. Final inspection and power up: Proper inspections will be made by the local building authorities and utility, and then the system will be powered up and begin producing energy

25-Year Warranty

PetersenDean Solar has one of the best warranty options in the solar industry, which covers you for 25 years and guarantees a certain level of production.

If you decide to make changes to your system after a roof or solar panel has already been installed, you'll be able to take advantage of the contractor's reinstallation guarantee. If you want to upgrade your system through PetersenDean, the solar installer's trade-in guarantee promises that PetersenDean will buy back the original system. If you end up moving, your Protection Plan will be transferred to the new home owners.

The Bad

  • No Leases or PPAs
  • Limited State Availability
  • Reported Customer Service Issues

No Leases or PPAs

PetersenDean does not offer any leases or PPAs. There are benefits and disadvantages with every payment option, but leases and PPAs help eliminate barriers to going solar because there is no down payment required.

Some customers may not have the savings to buy a solar system outright or the credit to get a loan, so offering a solar lease or PPA would provide opportunities for more consumers to take advantage of renewable energy with PetersenDean.

Limited State Availability

PetersenDean is currently available in only six states: Arizona, California, Florida, Hawaii, Nevada, and Texas. This is relatively few when compared to some other top solar companies that are available in more than 15 states.

There is an opportunity for this solar installer to grow and broaden its reach, therefore giving more consumers the chance to purchase one of its solar systems.

Reported Customer Service Issues

Several user reviews on our site explain that one of the major issues with PetersenDean is its customer service. There seems to be some miscommunication between the corporate offices and its regional dealers, which causes delays getting solar PV modules and roofing systems installed.

On top of that, PetersenDean does not have a good reputation for dealing with customer complaints. There have been a few cases reported where legal action was taken in order to resolve the issue.

gavel

The Bottom Line

Overall, PetersenDean is a great company to consider for a solar installation if you live in one of the states it services, especially if you are interested in solar roofing systems and/or solar and battery systems. The solar contractor does an excellent job of being transparent by disclosing pricing and package information on its website, as well as information about federal and state tax credits.

Additionally, the solar energy company has been installing solar for more than 3 decades and has experience in both residential and commercial construction. Further, PetersenDean Solar has one of the best warranties in the industry. In addition to providing rooftop solar services, PetersenDean is also a roofing contractor and a battery installer, which is convenient if you are interest in a wider variety of product offerings.

However, PetersenDean does not offer leases or PPAs, which limits some consumers' ability to find a payment option that meets their needs. If you are someone who is looking to get a lease or PPA, a different solar power installer may be a better fit.

I recently had a combination roof and solar system put in by P&D. I had an original"project manager" for about 3 weeks then replaced by another and one more before I got Ana R, who "got things done" Thank you Ana. Along with the project manager I got a "superannuant" who I thought was going to stay through out the project, but to the best of my knowledge did not. I had a project manager before Ana, who "seemed "like he was going to finally start the solar project ,but left the company without him or his designate letting me know. I'm going to "stop" bad mouthing P&D as Ana R came to my aide "above and beyond" and continued to work with her previous connections to see the job was done and done correctly. Also my hats go off to Chris M who came out personally to my house and made repairs , thank you Chris. And to all the wonderful people I spoke on the phone who were helpful, professional and kind. But the bottom line is that I will NEVER recommend P&D for any roofing or solar need.

We have a lot of experience hiring contractors and our experience with PD has to be one of the best. We have a concrete tile roof and they were careful and gave me a heads-up about 6-8 broken tiles before they started. We ran into problems with the electric company that had to be involved in my panel change and they went to bat for me and got the electric company to perform a pretty costly upgrade to the wire, at no cost. They met the end of the year deadline and were amazing in their customer communication and care. Can't say enough good things about the experience. We haven't paid an electric bill in nearly 2 years.

solar panels were installed several years ago and a year later we upgraded to more panels. while the second addition took some time it was installed. One of the most telling things that happened was the inspector who signed off said he had never seen a more professional job done on installation and wiring. he had seen many done but had not seen such detail and high end equipment used. we are more than pleased and the company continues to help us out-the new project is bird proofing the panels. pigeons love building nests under panels. you might want to include the barriers when installing the panels.

This company was very reliable. When we decided to go with PetersonDean they were very helpful in showing what type of Solar that would work for us. I was able to work with them and my homeowners association, had no problems at all. The day of install the installers were fast and had the job completed in one day. My system is 2 years old and running strong no problems at all. Even when the P.G.&E. power went out and I called PetersonDean to help me reset my system after the power outage. They were there the next day and walked me through the restart procedure. This is why I gave them a 5 star rating.

Petersen Dean responded quickly for my request for an evaluation and quote. All information was evaluated and a preliminary plan was proposed along with a cost estimate within a couple if hours. A financing plan was proposed that would not cost me anything in the long run and everything was set up to go. The detailed inspection was scheduled and the final plans prepares in a reasonable time. The work was scheduled and everything went according to plan. The installation was completed on schedule. The came back once to make adjustments. All coordination with PG&E was done and the system went "on-line" and functioned well. That was two years ago and we have been very happy with the installation and have not paid a cent for electricity since the system was activated. We chose Petersen Dean because they are an experienced roofing company and we did not want anyone installing a system on our roof that might not know what they were doing.

I had 16 panels installed over 1 1/2 years ago by PD. I was talked through the whole process with Jason who also provided links to numerous articles. I was cautious because my first experience was with a firm called Solar Negotiators, which in contrast was very unprofessional, but it claimed veteran ownership and I had a Groupon. I actually signed up, but over the 3-day contract cancellation period, I canceled. Their contractor only had a 10 year warranty and they wanted to only provide a 10 panel layout. PD was efficient, we got the paperwork done and the professional installation crew installed it and within a short time it was inspected and ready to go. I was conservative the first year with my usage and received a measly 2 cents/KHW payback, this year I'll use it all up in luxury seeing that's what the state wants through their incompetent, crooked PUC. Overall: excellent company with excellent product and a 25-30 year warranty. Recommend to friends and anyone who wants a terrific system!

I was truly shocked to see Sun Run rated highly and Petersen Dean more low. Sun Run promotes your renting solar from them and they pocket all the money and just freeze your high PGE bills in place. We asked all the right questions, then realized we wanted to own solar. We went looking for a great solar company. We narrowed it down to Petersen Dean and another company, and chose Petersen Dean due to their lower solar panel price. Both companies we narrowed it down to use the high quality US made solar panels. The work was done impeccably. We have had our 24 solar panels for a year now and our monthly bills with PG&E went from $400 - $500 to $80 to $100 (including gas). We could not have been more happy with the process and Roby Shiroma here in the Bay Area helped us at Petersen Dean. The worked out permits, and scheduled PG&E hookup, gave us accurate estimates that held true, and did a fantastic job. We always tell people to use Petersen Dean. Sure hope folks investigate and get solar for themselves and don't go with renting. And use a company that uses high quality US made solar panels. Everyone in the industry or in Silicon Valley knows that the solar panels from China are worthless. Do your homework. Ask a lot of questions. I would pick Petersen Dean again in a heartbeat.

System was installed exactly as expected. It took some time for the inspections from the City of Temecula, but they kept me informed at all times. The entire process from sales to the final project completion was perfect. The system works perfect along with the individual panel monitoring. I was concerned about possible leaks from the installation but with the rain we received this year, I know there are know issues. It's fun to see the credit building with SCE from the system generating more than we use and at half the price of what I was paying to SCE. I'm sure there are other good options out there as well, but if you don't mind purchasing a system, I would highly recommend PetersenDean.

I bought my solar outright. small mixup on the length of bolts to hold the panels on. that was the only problem. delay one day. no biggie. installers were professional. system worked perfectly. I have had it 1 & 1/2 years now. I keep the panels clean. the PG&E bill is unreadable. you need to be a rocket scientist. bottom line, I always have a credit. gets bigger each month with the angle of the sun. (or angle of the earth). I am very happy with PetersenDean. when it comes time for a new roof on my home I will only trust them to do a metal roof. my solar is on the metal garage building roof .

Less than a month ago Petersen Dean (PD) completed my 24 panel solar installation. PD did everything possible to ensure my system was contracted and installed without a hitch. Post installation - I had my usual roof contractor inspect their work and all was fine. Yes, they are more of a cash company, but that only means I will enjoy the tax credit this year.

I am a builder of new communities and had to share my thoughts on how professional PetersenDean is to work with. I have to admit that my first impression of Mark was a rough one, but then I watched him direct his people and build the best looking and performing roof I have ever seen. They also installed 370 feet of cedar fencing and it is the best quality fence I have ever seen in my twenty six years of building homes. I look forward to using PetersenDean in the future.

I have had an excellent relationship so far with Petersen Dean Solar. My sales person Armando, was extremely knowledgeable and gave an excellent presentation in our initial contact. I'm tough on salesmen but he led me through the presentation and was able to understand my concerns. The installation, inspection and startup were right on schedule. I couldn't ask for more. I have referred two friends to Petersen Dean, and I don't take referring companies lightly!

PetersenDean did an outstanding job on our solar installation. Their service folks explained what was happening every step of the way. We were quoted both a new roof and solar installation. We opted to have the roof installed by another contractor...with zero pushback from Petersen Dean. When I asked for a change in design to move a couple of panels to a more pleasing location, the work was done without any problems or added cost.

We financed a 24-panel installation by PetersenDean. The sales call was a hurried, somewhat high-pressured, and take-it-or-leave-it experience. The installation process, however, was top-notch and very professional. The workmanship left nothing to be desired, and the sizable crew was in and out in about a half day and in a neat and tidy way. The customer service follow-up has been minimal, but although the response is quick, I never know who is going to respond or how. However, PetersenDean's customer service is responsive, period. As far as system performance is concerned, this year, we had no PG&E bill in June, July or August, and our September bill is just under thirteen dollars.

I purchased a system from Peterson Dean with installation completed in January 2017. The system has worked exactly as stated and I have yet to pay an electric bill for the year. My bills prior to installation were averaging $200 per month. I have a steel roof and no other company would even talk to me about installation, much less a roof warranty after installation. I had one issue where the system was down for a few days but they sent a tech in two days with immediate resolution. I would highly recommend Peterson Dean to anyone looking to buy solar.

I "interviewed" 10 of the top companies in my area. Several didn't even go to the trouble to answer questions. Of those who did, Peterson-Dean provided the best price, warranty, and transparency of offering of any other. Once we committed to them for our PURCHASE, the proposed schedule was met EXACTLY AS PROMISED with complete updates at each stage. We've now been operating for one year with our system providing exactly what it was designed to do. Every aspect has been perfect!!!

Signing up for solar was a breeze and the customer service was outstanding. Our Representative was always quick to get back to us throughout our process. Would definitely recommend.

We chose Petersen Dean because of the importance of purchasing American made components, and labor. We've been very pleased with all facets of the Contractor, securing bonus discount incentives, and enjoying the timely installation and subsequent reliable operation of our system. We are very pleased, and enjoy our new lower energy bills that contradict the notices we were getting from our utility provider that our rates are going up. We recommend Petersen Dean to friends and family. Thank you Jim P!

Great service and all went well with the install. Have had the panels now for 3 years with no complaints. Up front pricing was the reason we went with them. I called 3 companies. All wanted me to lease. Math doesn't work with leases. They rip you off. PD even help out with the lender. Very happy!!

We were very impressed with the installation. Workers were efficient and courteous. We only had room for 18 panels and that would produce about 80% of our electrical needs. Our PG&E bill dropped tremendously. I know they are not the cheapest but we feel they make up for that with great workers and product.

Solar and roof. Great communication and service throughout the install. Consistently under promised and over delivered. Knowledgeable about local, county, state, and federal requirements. Best business transaction I've had in a long time. Electric bill in Los Angeles averages $20/mon, mostly "fees," not actual usage.

My wife and I purchased our solar system from Petersen Dean . We could not have been happier with them . We talked with 2 other companies and they could not deliver, on the price and financing packages that PD offered.. The whole deal was seamless , and smooth . Customer communications were excellent , and so was the installation process.. In fact , when they installed my system, they put up 15 panels in about 6 hours. And getting the city permit and sign off was a piece of cake .. No hassles , no drama.. Would I recommend them ? I already have ...!

Over all I would have to say I give PetersenDean 91/2 out of 10. they did everything they promised and a bit more, on time on budget, good clear explanation of what I was getting for my money, advised me clearly about solar panels, what to expect and not too, when the project will start and finish, and they did all that as promised, the panels look great, perform great and they left the job site as they found it. win win! Now you ask about the 1/2 point off, very very minor issue with a lost deposit check on there part that cost me a little personal time and effort.

I started my Solar around September 2016. This is when I started bidding and interviewing companies. Between September and October I interviewed and vetted 15 companies, including Petersen Dean Solar. Unfortunately they had to deal with someone that was by that time well versed in the industry and looking at home solar companies. Many of the companies I talked with were high-pressure sales, not knowledgeable about solar, the installation process, options, and over priced, and proved to have lousy customer service and technical support. Failing at customer service 101: not showing up on time or at all, lying, lack of knowledge, and just simple BS. On or around October 2016 I met for the first time with Brad S from Petersen Dean Solar for America (PDS). He showed up a couple of minutes early, dress professionally, very personable, the most knowledgeable of any off the previous 15 representatives that I talked to, had information and answers to EVERY question that I had at the tip of his tongue. Our initial consultation lasted close to two hours. At the end he gave me his cell number and told me that if I had any other questions to call him directly. Going over all the information I had gathered over the last two months I did come up with a few. I called him, left a message, and he called me back with in the hour. A great start to a great customer service relationship. We signed the contract in mid November. Almost everything went fantastic. A couple of very minor hiccups with the actual project manager(PM) (not returning phone calls and questions), I called Brad, and he was all over it solving the issue, and I received call backs from the PM shortly thereafter. Project Planning went great, they got me everything I needed to work with our HOA including licensing, insurance, bonding, and vehicle insurance, schematics, "blue-prints" / roofing lay out, main break panel upgrade etc. Unfortunately, if you remember 2016 winter and spring we had constant rain. It was because of this that our installation was delayed until end January February. Installation went without a hitch (except for failing to replace the molding which they came out in two days to replace), they were spotless (so much so that I didn't even know they had come by and called to see what happened with the installation). Having been in customer service, training, served as a Navy Chief for 30 years, work as Performance and Executive Coach, I am a stickler for exceptional world-class leadership and customer service. I was so excited and enthusiastic about PDS that I referred a number of customers to them. For a variety of reasons some chose not to go with PDS, mostly about the cost of solar, none about the customer service experience. In the last year I referred two people to PDS. The first had a huge project; a roof replacement AND solar. The customer service, project planning, months of delays ended up in threats of legal action for breach of contract on PDS part they completed the roof and contacted me. Since I had completed my project, Brad S had moved to an other company. I contacted Brad and put him in contact with my friend and with in 2 months start to finish they had their solar installed and operational. I used to monitor my panels every day. Over time that went to weekly, monthly, six months; any way you get the picture. Well one of panels was producing only 20% of expected production. I called them on 20 February, 6, 8, and 10 March. Each time I called I was told I would get a call back from Ramiro. I was irate by 10 March. I spent 18 minutes on the phone on 10 March, mostly on hold, finally got an appointment for someone to come out and on 19 March. Because of this issue and issues with my friend I can no longer endorse or recommend Petersen Dean Solar. When customers layout $25-$35,000 for home solar, we expect much better customer service… Especially AFTER the sale! This is when the rubber meats the road, and the quality and character of a business comes through. The sloppy communication, follow-up, customer service, lack of professionalism with me and people I have referred, I can no longer put my personal network's reputation and my word on the line for Petersen Dean. While I am still going through this solar panel technical issue with PDS, I will update this review if it is warranted.

so far not good with their promises! pro-misses! i have been with them for a solar-system since July of 2019. it is bebruary middle. they don't even call back as of late. they took in advance some $42,000 plus. i have nothing to show for....after bugging them for some weeks and months, they decided to raise the price by some $7,000! i reluctantly agreed to it. i still don't like they way they did it and their sale-man vanished!finally i said cancel my contract as they were to have finished the job by November 25.....they still have not returned my money! i thought maybe they went broke....but i dont think so. can anyone help? i need my money back and in anticipation of their solar, i spent alot of money to put in a Heat pump for heating and cooling.....no good deed goes unpunished...now they say they can do it tomorrow, but that was three weeks ago. i am done with them....

I had 34 panels installed on my roof in 2015. Initially I was pleased with the system and still am somewhat with how the system works but I should have gone on the roof after the work was completed to check the quality of the job but I didn’t. I thought the work would be completed in a professional manner. Earlier this year in 2019 I was on the roof inspecting its condition and discovered that Perterson/Dean had done a very poor job. There were pieces of conduit laying about, numerous broken tiles that were simply glued back together and stuck back into position. Some of the conduit wasn’t even bracketed to the roof! I called in April of 2019 to issue a complaint and a worker reported to my home approximately a week later. He and I went up on the roof to take pictures of the work and he agreed with me that the job was poorly done. It is now the 24th of May 2019 and still no response from Peterson/Dean. If I had known that I would be treated in this manner I certainly would had dealt with another solar powered company.

I didn't check the reviews. It was my fault. I was recommended by my contractor. He told me that his customers used PD. I use PD because I though it is much easier to have one company to work on the roof and solar. After we talked to different people from different departments, they, PD, did try hard to make things right. They assigned a new projector coordinator and if we have the new one in the first place, I will give 4-star. No. 1 problem, internal communication; No. 2 problem: they don't want to admit their internal communication problem and blame on the customer. First, the rep claimed that we can install the certain numbers of solar panels. Then, after few months, they changed the contact and said can only install 1/2 of them because of the size of our roof. Should they know that before the drafted the contract? They rushed to finalize the contract. Second, the rep told me that I didn't need to worry about the finance because the bank approved more than actually needed. In September, I contacted the bank and the bank said someone must notify them and adjust the contract. So, who should I believe, the bank or PD rep? In October, PD assigned the new project coordinator to us. I mentioned the loan to the new coordinator. We quickly received the new loan amount confirmation. The contract was signed in late June and started in October. Day 1: As expected, the demolition crew left many nails on the driveway. Day 2: I ordered the insulation, roof and solar. I was at home in the morning the day that they tried to install the roof. I talked to the workers. They said they could complete the roof in one day. I said, "insulation and the roof". They didn't know about the insulation. I called the office. The coordinator was not sure that I paid for the insulation then he checked and admitted that they missed the insulation. He said they can install the roof first and blow in the insulation later. The insulation company called and said they want to access the attic from our house. I told her that there is no full access, only 1/2 of the attic/roof. They have to figure out how to blow the insulation from outside. I went home. They didn't work on the roof. Day 3: Nobody came. Day 4 and 5: weekend. Day 5: Insulation day, both the roof crew and insulation crew were late. Afternoon, the roof guys punched one hole in the roof and left. The insulation guys arrived and said they cannot put the insulation in the entire roof with only one hole. They needed to come in the house and blow the insulation to the roof from the house. The insulation crew left the site around 2-3 o'clock. Day 6: (this is the day that I really cannot trust PD). The project coordinator called and asked to pay the balance. He said the roof was completed. He said the roof was completed on Wednesday before the insulation. I told him that it was not. He said it was done maybe after the insulation. The insulation crew left around 2 and I don't believe the roofing crew could complete the work in less than 3 hours. He insisted that the roof was installed (in his record, Tue demo Wed roof but actually Wed demo and no roof on Thur) and I told him that I needed to go home and check. I drove home during the office hour, took a picture of the shingle-less house and emailed to him. Afternoon, I call the project coordinator and told him that he should ask for the 1st payment because the materials were delivered, not the balance and the roof was not installed. (I didn't want him to get in trouble.) I paid. He didn't say anything. Day 7: The roofing crew installed 1/2 of the house and left 7+ screws in the middle of the driveway to ensure that our car wouldn't miss. The house is 1600 sqft two-story building. The contract didn't specify how many days but please ... be reasonable (or retaliation?) Day 8: Nobody came. Called the project coordinator. Things got interesting.... Customer Service and another project coordinator involved. Story is too long .. One more thing, the new project coordinator said he couldn't find the gutter color in the order. I picked that on 8/17 through email. Day 9: after multiple phone calls, they came back and complete the roof. They will be back to work on the gutter next Wed. Also on Day 9, the customer relation called and told me "I" misunderstood everything. The project coordinator didn't order the insulation because it was not his job. (He is just a project coordinator and no, he didn't think that I have paid for the insulation and therefore I needed to find the contract.) "I" asked for the insulation to be installed before the roofing (No, I just want to make sure that they will put the insulation as stated in the contract and told the insulation company that there is no access to the full roof from inside the house. They can punch a hole from the outside as long as they fixed everything). The project coordinator just want to "confirm" the gutter color (No, he told me that no color option was entered. He offered color white. Did he want to confirm that I would accept WHITE?) and actually, I can choose the color after the gutter is installed. (if so, why I need to let him know the color no later than Monday?) My English is not good but not that poor. A day before the gutter installation: The new coordinator called and told me that I didn't select the gutter style and they ordered different style that I used to have. I had no idea. He is so good that he actually looked the pictures from google and checked the style of our old gutter. He also compared to ours to our neighbors and explain to me. I confirm the correct style. The new roof and gutters are nice (much nicer than the old one.) The second project coordinator is good . He caught something that the original coordinator or sales rep missed.

Very good service, had a small problem when it went off line, they let me know it was not producing and came out and rebooted the system no problems since. System producing power plenty of power. Bill in the low teens during summer.

Customer service was great. They addressed some issues immediately after being notified. Installation was perfect, no leaks after the rain. They don't offer lease or PPA but why would anybody want a lease or PPA. Purchase is the best option to be able to avail of the tax incentive.

I was very pleased with the whole experience at PetersonDean. They did what they said, when they said, and everything went well. Later on I had a problem with the city over an open permit. I call PetersonDean and within two days the problem was solved. Service after the sale is very important to me. They came through just fine.

Petersen Dean installed my system in the spring of 2015. I have no complaint about Petersen Dean but am really unhappy with the Fronius Inverter that was installed. It has crapped twice since installation. It is warranteed for 10 years but I am concerned that the product will end up costing me more than the system is worth after that.

Signed with Petersen Dean on May 24, 2106 it is now November 16 with no PTO in sight. Panels were installed on Oct 27, city and MID inspections should have already been arranged but were not. Now with Thanksgiving coming up and no one working, it'll be December by the time MID gets here and my solar actually gets turned on. Almost seven months which is by far too long to wait. My neighbor who went with Sunrun only took 4 weeks from contract signing to PTO-now that's a company who gets it done. the best thing I can say about Petersen Dean is that their install guys did a great job, it's management who needs help and oh BTW I think I was contacted by 3 different project coordinators coordinators who consistently reiterated that MID was difficult-I think Petersen Dean needs to get their act together because other companies don't have any problems with them. I'm also paying another 2 months of both my solar bill and electric bill, REALLY!!

My system was installed in Anaheim, CA in January, 2016. The permitting process took a long time, but contact with an assigned customer service rep in Fremont kept me in the scheduling loop. My flat roof was replaced expertly, there have been no service requirements and I'm making lots of power for the city as well as myself.

Looked at Solar City, SunPower and Peterson Dean. The price was relatively the same between the 3, but I selected PetersonDean because they started as a roofing company.. I wasn't disappointed. They even assisted in taking out the hardware for my old water solar heater. The communication up front could have been a little better and they neglected to move a couple of vents that i had requested them to move. But overall I was happy with their work, the result was professional and I would not hesitate to use them again.

I don't get the low ratings at all. Our experience was great. The installation went as planned and communication was never a problem. I would use this company again and recommend to other.

I will not be recommending this company to anyone in fact they are scam artist and shouldn’t be in business all they care about is getting paid once that’s done we’ll forget about getting your issues address from one project manager to another to not uploading documents for inspection I’m paying for a solar system that is not even functional as it can’t pass inspection and no return calls or emails. This company bullying you into signing your financing so they can get paid with the promise of delivering on the job to make it right well it’s been 6 months now! Im considering legal action at this point! Do your self a favor just skip over this company as it’s no good!

We have been trying to get our job done for ten months. The solar panels installed over a new roof are installed but not functional. Delay. Delay. Delay. There seems to be a cavalier attitude toward customer service. This can happen in any industry, but I'll tell you the unusual reason why this one issue of corporate malfeasance particularly galls me. I have seen Jim Petersen's commercials for years. When we moved to Santa Rosa we left a big house with 20 solar panels (from a different company) because of which the electric portion of our PG&E bill was always under six dollars. Why did I call Petersen Dean? For a very personal, illogical reason: I liked Jim Petersen. There, I said it. Right from central casting. He has the aura of a "Jack Armstrong, All-American" type character, the absolutely honorable, trustworthy guy, a big, tall, handsome, square-jawed, square-shouldered man with a steadfast gaze at the camera. A straight-shooter. And I fell for it. Panels made in America, by American workers: what's not to love? He is a celebrity executive. We have paid cash. Our job is about $25,000. They have been sitting on our money. We are in our seventies. I would pursue a case for the difference between what we should have paid in electric charges in the last six months and what we did pay, based on the PG&E usage charges but my life is stressful enough. I'm not a litigious person. I feel like I've been personally duped, and yet I have seen that there are many dissatisfied customers out here in the world. Actually, there is enough anger about this company, I wouldn't be surprised if someone filed a class action suit. My fantasy of the all-American good guy blew up in my face. It is a dirty feeling.

A disappointing experience. The sales team was prompt and excited to get the sale, developed a good proposal and worked to get a contract. Signed contract in May 2019. Project manager changed four times. Poor communication. Expected roof and solar to be installed in July. Roof installed in Sept. PD told us to be expect workers on Fri. No one showed up. Two weeks later, another call form PD, workers showed up. Was advised solar would be installed within a couple of weeks. Solar finally installed in Dec 2019 after we contacted PD numerous times. Jan 2020, the solar is still not turned on. We are making payments to both PG&E and PD. PD says PG&E is the delay, PG&E says PD is the delay. Others in the neighborhood who had solar and roof by "local" companies with contracts signed after May 2019 have working solar. PD has no idea when they will be able to turn on the solar they installed. However, keep making those payments to PG&E and PD. PD not returning either calls or emails. The radio commercials are not accurate. In my opinion, a joke of a company. Wish I could do it over.

$17,688.20 refund... 3 months of lies and run around . DO NOT GIVE THEM MONEY !! Peterson Dean management and the accounting are not honest and deceitful . after my 3rd coordinator gave up on getting a response from management/accounting( this took 3 months) I have been told to call customer care. now after failed call backs and runaround from customer care now Ive been told to wait till the 20th of next month to get my money...lol I was told this back in November also. really what are they waiting for? " Peterson Dean has done me wrong" is the sign I want to make up ...boycott Peterson dean , they are not representative of American business and values . I know the two owners would never make a sweet uplifting commercial about what I've gone thru and plaster it all day long on tv ... oh by the way no corporate person has ever called me or emailed to help me , even though I have been told many times I would get a call the next day lol. You know folks I'm starting to think Peterson Dean management/accounting doesn't care about me ... that hurts my feelings ...lol Thanks for reading this and I hope you give this a thought before you spend your hard earned and taxed heavily money.

I will try and make this short. I signed a contract with PetersenDean and paid a 10% down payment on October 22, 2018. During this process, a PetersenDean inspector came out and checked out my roof. Although I was told on more than one occasion that my project would be completed (the last time was on September 11th of 2019, the Project Coordinator at that time told me that she was going to go to upper management if my roof wasn't fix soon). PetersenDean stopped communicating with me after that point until early November when the Project Coordinator responded to an email to tell me that they had canceled my project a month earlier. I called to find out why they had canceled my project and why they had failed to notify me only to learn that the project coordinator had no explanation. I spoke with a supervisor who said he would look into things for me. He failed to call me back. Finally, the day before it started to rain, a representative of PetersenDean called to say that they did not have the "resources" to get on my roof. I explained that other roofers had accessed my roof to get to neighboring condos. But i was assured that PetersenDean did not have the ability to access my roof. So, to believe PetersenDean, their own inspector did not realize that they did not have the resources to fix my roof when they signed my up. It then took them a year to figure out that they could not fix my roof. Upon learning that they did not have the ability to access my roof they failed to notify me. Finally, when confronted with the fact that they canceled my project without notifying me, their supervisor with whom I spoke with failed to call me back in a timely manner. As I write this, water is dripping into my bedroom, thanks PetersenDean!

I had my Roof installed by PetersenDean I thought the sales men that came out were honest we talked about the Roof & gutters & they said it was all included the papers were sent by email I read the contract signed & sent it back! It was hard to set a installment day the workers finished the roof & ask why we did not get gutters ! I don't even want to get into what this company put me through & I realize the sales men were not honest at all & there is no way to make a long story short! I was looking into Solar & the warranty from my roof & solar but after reading a review from another person who decided to go Solar with PetersenDean because he had his roof done by them and it turned out to be a disaster can you imagine what would happen to me !

Like you John B. My system was based on my family size and I was told it would supply more than power that my small family needed. I paid over 1200 the first year and over 1300 the second of True Up and that does not include my monthly bill. Why is it that they can respond to these reviews, but they don’t call you back to help with solar issue. I thought customer satisfaction was important. Apparently not in this company. Those five and four star reviews, I don’t think the real.. If it was possible to give a zero rating I would. Because for the last two years I have not had one dime a savings only when I completely shut off the power in my house.

We thank you for your feedback. What you have described is not the typical customer experience. I would like to look into this for you. Can you please provide the property address of your solar system and the best contact number in a private message or contact us at or (800) 564-0362?
