The Good

  • Preferred Partners
  • Financing Solutions
  • Clear Service Area

Preferred Partners

Active Solar is partnered with several leading vendors in the industry. This ensures that customers receive the very best in solar quality and technology.

One of Active Solar’s preferred partners is Q Cells. Q Cells manufactures some of the highest quality solar cells and modules known for their reliability and energy efficiency.

Another preferred partner for Active Solar is Enphase. Enphase has installed more than 39 million microinverters on over 1.7 million homes in over 130 countries. The microinverters are incredibly reliable and if used with Enphase’s award-winning smart battery, you are sure to have one of the most efficient energy systems on the block.

While Active Solar may not be the largest or most recognized solar company in the industry, we appreciate the company’s commitment to quality. When it comes to a solar system, you want something that will last a long time and offers reliable energy efficiency. The company has garnered relationships with several top-name brands. It provides these products to its customers for a more affordable price — ensuring that they get the very best without overpaying.

Financing Solutions

A brand new solar system can be pretty expensive, so most homeowners will finance their latest project. To help consumers out, Active Solar allows consumers to purchase, lease, or finance a new solar system.

There are both pros and cons to each type of financing solution. Leases generally mean your new system will be installed with little to no upfront costs. Plus, all maintenance costs are covered by the solar company. However, you do not own the system.

When financing your solar system, you can quickly get a loan for little or no money down, and tax credits and rebates will further lower your overall payment on the system. However, you might have to do some research to find the financing institution that offers the best rates and terms.

Or you can pay for your solar system upfront with cash. This will ultimately save you the most money(as there will be no interest accruing and you own the system from the get-go), but paying anywhere from $15,000 to $50,000 is not feasible for most consumers.

However you decide to pay for your solar system is entirely up to you, but we appreciate the fact that Active Solar gives consumers a variety of options.

Clear Service Area

Active Solar provides a transparent service area on its website (albeit in an unusual spot). Consumers can look at the service area on Active Solar’s blog. The company provides a list of cities in California.

Currently, Active Solar’s service area includes the following cities in California:

  • Anaheim
  • Costa Mesa
  • Dana Point
  • Huntington Beach
  • Irvine
  • Ladera Ranch
  • Laguna Niguel
  • Lake Forest
  • Mission Viejo
  • Newport Beach
  • Orange
  • Rancho Mission Viejo
  • San Clemente
  • San Juan Capistrano
  • Santa Ana

The website also discloses that Active Solar works with a few select clients in Los Angeles. If your home is located in Los Angeles, we recommend contacting the company directly to find out if your home is within the service area.

The Bad

  • NABCEP Certification

NABCEP Certification

Active Solar currently is not NABCEP certified. The NABCEP is known for setting exceptionally high standards, and all technicians must demonstrate their abilities and pass a rigorous exam to become certified.

Having a NABCEP accredited technician on staff or being a NABCEP certified company is not required. That said, being NABCEP certified indicates that the company is willing to go the extra mile to ensure that clients receive the very best service.

The Bottom Line

Active Solar is an excellent solution for California homeowners (mainly those in Orange County) who want to invest in solar. The company is a full-service solar company that has been in business since 2007 and has plenty of experience installing quality solar systems.

The company is not NABCEP certified, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t trustworthy. Active Solar primarily works with several top-name brands such as Enphase, Q Cells, and Generac. So we firmly believe that if you are to work with this company, you will receive a quality solar system that should last for years.
