Protecting the environment is important for the health and prosperity of life on earth, and it's everyone's responsibility to do their part to take care of our planet. The following organizations share what they're doing to promote sustainability and contribute to a cleaner, healthier world:


TenTree is an apparel company that plants at least 10 trees worldwide for each item sold. All clothing is made with sustainable eco-materials including hemp, organic cotton, recycled polyester, cork and coconut buttons. Beginning on August 21st, 2018, the company will also have backpacks available through Kickstarter (shipping March 2019) made entirely of upcycled materials, including up to 31 plastic bottles per bag. TenTree plans to plant 1 billion trees by 2030.

Bindle Bottle

Bindle Bottle offers fully insulated reusable water bottles with integrated storage to help reduce waste from buying plastic bottles. Bindle Bottle also makes a straw lid option to help cut down on plastic straw usage.


OluKai is one of less than 2,000 B Corps in the world, which means the company is held to the highest standards of social and environmental responsibility. OluKai sources all of its leather from sustainable tanneries, makes its shoes in factories with low impact on the environment, and utilizes recycled rubber in its outsoles. The company is also supporting a sail from Hawaii to California with the Polynesian Voyaging Society to bring awareness to the devastation that single-use plastic pollution has on our planet.

Daisies Restaurant

Daisies is a vegetable-driven and pasta-focused restaurant that sources fresh ingredients directly from a local farm. Daisies has an anti-food waste program that includes using recyclable straws; re-using ingredients (i.e. repurposing lemon juice and citrus for the kitchen to cook with; reusing leftover wine from glass pours on Sunday nights to make vinegar); and taking on, preserving, and fermenting bumper crops and unsold or unusual produce to extend shelf life and allow for consumption.

Montanya Distillers

Montanya Distillers is a distillery that strives to help the environment in every aspect of its business. Montanya composts all of its organic, pre-consumer matter locally; eliminated straws and disposable cups at its tasting room and all of its events; switched company cars over to hybrids; and uses 100 percent recycled-content napkins and paper bags in its tasting room.

MBI Group

MBI Group is a full-service construction firm based in NYC that provides interior fit-outs and core and shell construction for corporate, educational, healthcare, hospitality, institutional, mixed-use, and retail facilities. The company takes an environmentally conscious approach to discard construction materials and goes the extra mile to separate all materials and recycle.

Nicole Alex

Nicole Alex is a sustainably-made, sun-protective, antibacterial apparel line based in Los Angeles. The company utilizes earth-friendly fabric and ethical production practices, designing and manufacturing its products in L.A. All of Nicole Alex's fabrics undergo extensive testing to ensure they're free of harmful substances, including known allergy-inducing and irritating chemicals.

Dearest, Inc.

Dearest is an early childhood education startup that teaches young children about the world and how they can help contribute to it through empathy and innovation. The company, which believes that teaching little ones about the environment and how they can make an impact is a great way to contribute, covers diverse environmental issues and ideates creative ways to help save the environment. In its office, Dearest uses recycled materials, has zero print-out months, and uses mugs for drinks rather than disposable cups.

Just Mind

Just Mind is a group counseling practice in Austin, Texas, that has implemented several environmentally-friendly practices at its office, including switching to smart thermostats, adding recycling cans, tracking water usage, plugging appliances into smart power strips that turn off when not in use, installing a water machine rather than purchasing bottled water, using compostable cups, donating items to Goodwill, and encouraging employees to carpool when possible.

Furniture Fixology

Furniture Fixology is a furniture restoration company with a team of experienced craftsmen that strive to breathe new life into broken furniture. Through its repairs, Furniture Fixology prevents several tons of furniture from being dumped into public landfills every year.

Marble Distilling Co.

Marble Distilling Co. is a zero-waste distillery that focuses on sustainability through water conservation, renewable energy, and local sourcing and reuse of byproducts. The company has built a one-of-a-kind Water and Energy Thermal System (WETS), which provides a closed-loop way to capture 100 percent of the water and energy utilized and created during the distillation process. The WETS reuse system saves more than 4 million gallons of water annually, which is enough to power 20 homes for a year. All water and energy are reused in the facility.

I Thought of You

I Thought of You sells sustainable, handmade fair trade jewelry and accessories that support artisans in developing countries. Instead of utilizing cheap components, I Thought of You's products are made from organic materials like wood, coffee, fruit, and seeds.

The Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation

The Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation is a government organization that works to preserve natural resources. The proceeds from every fishing license sold go directly to conservation programs including fisheries management, habitat protection, and fishing education.


Onya is a B Corp that offers bags and backpacks made from rPET, a fabric produced from recycled plastic water bottles. The company quite literally takes plastic waste from landfills and turns it into something that's reusable and 100 percent recyclable. Onya's commitment to sustainability also extends to its packaging, which is made from post-consumer recycled material and printed with water-based inks, making it suitable for both recycling and composting.

Alkalign Studios

Alkalign Studios is a line of green fitness studios that believes the environment you work in, or workout in, should be as toxin-free as possible. As a result, the company has made conscious decisions to reduce waste, including installing filtered water fountains rather than selling plastic water bottles, using reusable towels to clean mats, and having zero paper towels for hands or cleaning. The company also uses essential oils rather than harsh chemicals to clean.

Maple Holistics

Maple Holistics is an organic and natural health and beauty company. However, the company's commitment to the environment doesn't end with how it produces its products; Maple Holistics also offers a recycling program that allows customers to return six empty product bottles in exchange for a free bottle of shampoo or a donation to an eco-friendly charitable organization.

California Employment Attorneys Legal Group

California Employment Attorneys Legal Group is a law firm that has taken steps to make its office more environmentally friendly by providing reusable bags for employees to transport files or food to and from the office; cutting out plastic and styrofoam cups and instead offering reusable water bottles and coffee mugs to employees; having recycling bins near employee workspaces so they can recycle daily-used materials; plugging all computers, lights, printers, scanners, and other electronics into a standby switch that cuts power when there's no motion in the room for a certain amount of time; and digitizing operations by paying bills online, encouraging email rather than traditional mail, and converting client files into PDFs.


EscapeAdventures is a Las Vegas-based premier biking and multi-sport company for elite athletes and families alike. The company built a "net zero" building and installed a 53kw rooftop solar photovoltaic system to cover its daily energy needs.

A Hotel Life

A Hotel Life is an editorially-based website for creative travelers that has implemented a "Plastic Free" barometer that appears on every hotel rating to let curious globetrotters know how "green" a hotel is in general, as well as specifically how little plastic is used. The company urges hotels to remove single-use plastic from rooms prior to check-in and encourages guests to bring reusable water bottles on their trips.

Recover Brands

Recover Brands is a sustainable apparel company that has tailored its entire business model to helping the environment by keeping plastic bottles out of the landfill. The company utilizes recycled plastic bottles and recycled cotton to make shirts, hoodies, and accessories (8 plastic bottles = 1 shirt), and has kept more than 5 million tons of plastic out of the landfill.

American Backcountry and Unifi

American Backcountry is a North Carolina-based t-shirt brand that was founded in 1994. The company's t-shirts are all printed on Repreve Triblend, which is made by Unifi and utilizes seven recycled water bottles per shirt. To date, American Backcountry has contributed to Unifi's efforts to recycle more than 10 billion plastic bottles. Unifi has a goal to recycle 10 million more bottles by 2020.
