The recipes contained on the Disney Family page provide options for children and families with allergies and are suited well to the children they have been designed for. Many of the recipes are healthy and fun for children to enjoy as lunch items or pair with activities and crafts especially designed for parties and get-togethers. The recipes take inspiration from characters from Disney movies and shows and reviews and comments can be left on each one.
The recipes themselves are also very easy to share on a variety of platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Tumblr, and Pinterest. This feature makes the recipes easy to recommend to friends or save to a user's personal social media profile in order to locate them at a later date.
There is also a newsletter which has be especially created for the Disney Family page and emails users update to the page as well as some of the featured crafts, activities, and recipes such as the Disney Princess Party and Allergy Friendly the Beast and Belle's Enchanted Rose Tarts.
- Recipe diversity
- Lack of filtering
- Absence of tips, how-tos, and expert advice
- No blog or forum
- Cannot upload personal recipes
- No meal planning tool
The Disney Family page as a whole is suited for preparing special meals for children either as a lunch or for a special event, there are very few options meant for adults or for large groups of both children and adults. The website also lacks meals suited for dinners.
Sorting through the recipes is also problematic. There is no filtering system present and when you search using the bar at the top you get results from the entire Disney universe. There are categories listed on the side of the page but there is no way to see every category they offer. Navigating through the sections is difficult and unless you are staying within a particular section or event related items are also difficult to find.
Overall the site has a very particular purpose. There are very few options available for adults or cooks and it is missing some of the basic features of a food website including a meal planner, difficult levels on recipes, tips and techniques as well as expert advice and how-to articles.
The Bottom Line
If you are solely looking for recipes suited to a child's party or lunch then Disney Family can provide you with numerous themed choices, however if you are looking for recipes to fit your entire family's every day needs, we do not recommend this site. The recipes contained on Disney Family are meant for a very specific niche. If you need inspiration for a child's birthday party there are themed recipes and activities provided. If you wish to view numerous recipes meant for the entire family which can be filtered by specific diets or tastes then this is not the place for you.
