Teamwork is a cloud-based project management software solution based out of Cork, Ireland. The company was founded in 2007 by Peter Coppinger and Dan Mackey.
The company offers 3 main products to help businesses get work done:
These flagship products can be used separately or together. The company employs less than 50 employees. The software is being used successfully by over 374, 000 companies with 1.8 million users. 65 million tasks have been performed in over 2 million projects. Well-known clients include:
TeamWork has numerous useful features to maximize clients' project needs. Some of these features are project management, reporting, resource management, task management, email integration, scheduling, support, team collaborations, customization, file management, integration, learning materials, time management and third-party integration.
Teamwork packs a lot more functional features than other similar project management software solutions available from competitors in the marketplace. One is its central file storage system. Users can access all their files directly from the Files tab as well as attaching them to tasks.
Teamwork is affordable for most business sizes and types. Its price structure is not based on the number of users like other similar project management software programs. Price ranges are from $12-$149 per month. The best value comes from the Business 2 plan at $49 monthly. It features 20GB of storage, 35 projects, and unlimited users. The company also offers a 30-day free trial.
Teamwork includes a desktop timer application that can be installed on both Windows and Mac operating systems. The only requirement is that the timer must run via Adobe Air, which can also be installed at no charge. The desktop timer remembers settings and updates automatically, provided that it is closed and re-launched when necessary. The timer also includes an Auto Pause feature that shuts down when it does not sense any activity after a certain period of time. Time may also be logged manually.
Logged time can be separated into billable and non billable hours with comments. Reports can also be generated from time logs. Time reports can be generated across all projects for a given date range or specific task list. Reports are created in Excel, CSV, and PDF forms.
Teamwork mobile apps work exceptionally well for the times when a user is away from the office. Users gave it 5 stars. It allows a user to view and upload files, assign tasks, and create or reply to messages. Users can check status updates and activity streams. Milestones and tasks can also be created and edited directly for the mobile app.
The fully customizable dashboard provides a comprehensive overview on one screen. It shows a user activity from the 10 most recently active projects, upcoming due date, and overdue task reminders. The Switch Project feature directs a user to the last 5 projects that were recently worked on. A sidebar located on the dashboard alerts the user to the amount of storage space still available.
TeamWork is praised for its simple processes and easy-to-use applications. From mobile devices, users can assign tasks, download documents and do all they could do away from the office. The mobile capability is especially helpful for freelancers and remote employees.
Features within the platform can be tediously slow and inefficient. Tasks must be clicked on individually in order to be edited. There is also no efficient way to edit large batches of tasks. Tasks cannot be imported either. Cross-project dependencies cannot be set and critical paths cannot be calculated. There are no project portfolio features in order to analyze and prioritize projects lists to meet company objectives.
Gantt charts are not easily accessible on the main dashboard. These charts are found under the Tasks tab as a link that only operates when a user manually opens it. The Gantt chart can be buggy at times and is prone to crashing. It is also project-specific and contains no timeline view.
Resource management is lacking in features within the platform. The workload screen show the number of task hours in a specified date range in a spreadsheet-like format. However, it does not tell a user what the tasks are or when they are due. Reports cannot be created for users, clients, and upper-level executives. Reports cannot be emailed either, but can be downloaded and emailed separately.
Financial management features are nonexistent in the TeamWork platform. Users can not set project budgets or estimate and approve expenses. The software platform does not allow users to set fixed rates for projects. There are no revenue tracking features or financial health indicators.
Chat applications for team collaboration are not included in the platform. However, it is available as a free separate desktop application. Teamwork does not show message content in the activity view. Messages must be manually clicked on in order to read the. The same goes for discussion threads.
There is no relationship among logged time, estimated time, and percentage completion values. The percentage complete value is simply a manual setting, rather than on any particular quantifiable factors. There is no explanation behind the reasoning for this.
TeamWork is a stellar project management tool. It helps keep goals aligned with reality. It drives teams with great communication tools making collaboration and idea sharing very easy to do. Timeline tools also help keep things on track. And when work does seem to scatter, Teamwork helps identify areas that need attention to get things managed as soon as possible. Excellent tool for the right price!
