Shopify's online store software is provided with each of its plans. The free online store is a great way to expand any business, plus it can be easy to commit to creating the online store because there isn’t an added cost to test out the online store option. Having an online store allows you to accept online payments and simplify operations with its centralized inventory.

Point of Sale

Each of the plans provided by Shopify is equipped with different features for the actual POS software and hardware provided. The Basic plan provides: the Shopify POS app, Hardware peripheral support, and third-party POS apps. The Shopify and Advanced Shopify plans include: the Shopify POS app, Register shifts, Hardware peripheral support, Unlimited Shopify POS staff PINs, and Third-party POS apps. Make sure when you are selecting a plan to use for your business that you find the one that best fills your needs. Read the fine print!

Shopify Free App

In order to make sales easier for both merchants and customers, app developers have worked tirelessly to ensure that software on shopify apps is on-par with other e-commerce stores. For store owners that are running their business online, the free app powered by Shopify will allow them to help the traffic that they receive be directed to appropriate merchandise or services all from a mobile device or tablet.

Easy Integration

Shopify offers different options to integrate your technology with its technology. The Shopify POS app works with iPhones, iPads, or Android devices. Shopify also offers a free credit card reader that will work with any smartphone or tablet, making the transition to using Shopify POS simple.

Customer Support

Shopify offers a number of customer service options to best help each client. Along with 24/7 support, you can visit the Shopify Help Center, attend forums, use free online tools, free stock photos, and find other websites for sale. One other helpful  customer service option is the use of the Shopify Community (which can be found online). Here, customers are able to chat with customer support representatives, provide product reviews, participate in live chat with other members, and get advice on how to grow their ecommerce businesses.

Customizable Customer Experience

After downloading the Shopify POS app from the app store, you are given 71 options of different themes to choose from to best cater to the specific needs of your target market. Some design categories include:

  • Boost - Mainly used in the clothing industry, available pages are catered to selling unique clothing items.
  • Cascade - For a subtle square touch to your marketing or messaging, these templates are easily navigable.
  • Impulse - Templates in this section are more flashy and appear to drive sales by using common trends based on FOMO.
  • Artisan - Associated templates appear to be catered to those who are more hands-on and want to share their creations.
  • Prestige - Templates are very trendy and layout is simple yet elegant. Should be great for clothing and/or accessories.
  • Motion - With slightly bigger lettering, key words play a major role on these pages.
  • Split - Focus on integration of stereotypical clothing and other items between traditional genders.

Of the 71 themes available on this ecommerce website, 10 are free themes available to consumers. The other 61 themes can be purchased for a fee and are available upon payment.

Shopify Exchange

One of the great advantages of using the Shopify software is the ability to provide refunds for items needing to be returned. Unfortunately this service is only available with the Advanced Package. Not only are refunds made possible, but order history, cash flow, daily totals, staff PINs, accounting integrations, and timelines are also available in conjunction with this feature.

The Bad

  • High Credit Card Rates

High Credit Card Rates

Shopify has one of the highest credit card rates compared to other POS systems. It is 2.9% plus $0.30 per US credit card swipe per online transaction when using the basic Shopify package. Although buying the more expensive monthly packages lowers the online and in person credit card fees, but the pricing is still above average.

The Bottom Line

Though there are pros and cons, Shopify POS is a good option for those selling in person who want the option to sell online using its e-commerce store to increase sales. Shopify reviews and general product reviews overall have been fairly high with most receiving between four and five-star rating. The free online website that is included in the POS plan is an easy platform for those businesses wanting to build their online presence and market to a larger audience through ecommerce software. It can be used as a store builder to help sell your products in a more efficient manner. We would recommend this system to small businesses that don’t require a complex set of features. For a basic POS system, Shopify is a good place to start. your products in many places should be every bit as simple as selling in one. With Shopify’s e-commerce software, you get one unified platform to run your business with ease. When we say it’s never been easier to start a business, we mean it. Shopify handles everything from marketing and payments, to secure checkout and shipping. Now you can focus on the things you love.

I used the Shopify service for a few years and was very pleased with how well it worked for me. I could run my online store right from home! one of the best things is if you have a small business is you can just use the basic service and it is very affordable. I was happy with how easy it was to get started

I sell art online with Shopify and I have found it very user friendly, and easy to use. In my opinion $29 is a small fee to pay every money for the free services they offer(like kit, which helps with thank you emails, marketing products, etc.) check out my shopify website DesireeFaith.com to see for yourself
