Pet owners have a lot of options when it comes to buying pet supplies online. Nevertheless, two companies are almost instantly recognized for being the go-to place for pet supplies: Chewy and Petflow.

Both companies are known for selling quality pet products at an affordable price. However, when it comes to the best online pet store, Chewy has the upper hand in several categories.

I have used them for years and they are awesome. Great customer service and will make things right if there's a problem. Some of the cat food has been out of stock lately, but it's a supply issue, nothing to do with Chewy. I love the ease of ordering cat food , supplies and litter online and am grateful for Chewy.

Terrible service. Chewy cancelled my order without letting me know after I told them that the prescription will be available in less than a week. At the start, hey confirmed that the order was on hold. Instead they cancelled it! Instead of contacting me, I had to contact them. No apologies. They instructed me to place a new order. Chewy should place the order for messing up! That's how the real world works: if YOU make a mess, YOU clean it up.

The gentleman that assisted me this morning was wonderful. I explained needing to switch my recurring order from regular Origin to "Fit and Trim". He did it for me in the blink of an eye. This isn't the first time I have received extraordinary customer service from your company. Whatever you are doing, please keep doing it! (Oh yeah, clone this guy if you can!)

Fedex will be the death of Petflow. Initially I became a customer of Petflow because they carried the Zignature brand; I live 2 hours from the nearest dealer so I found that the auto ship program worked for me….until recently. Over the past couple months I have not received my shipment on time, the first time it was a week late, and right now, my dog food has been sitting on a delivery truck since 10/19. It’s the 28th of October! I have cancelled my order and auto ship, as Fedex handles all their shipments, and Fedex service in my area is very poor.

The Final Word

While both stores sell pet supplies, Chewy has supplies for not only cats and dogs but horses, birds, reptiles, fish, and other small pets. Petflow is limited in its pet supplies by only offering products for cats and dogs. You’ll definitely have a wide variety of options when shopping with Chewy, but Petflow does offer a few pet food brands that Chewy doesn’t

Both Chewy and Petflow offer free shipping on any order over $49, but if you’re under you’ll be subjected to a flat-rate shipping fee. Petflow’s flat-rate fee is $5.95, which isn’t bad, but Chewy still has the lead with a flat-rate fee of $4.95.

Unfortunately, neither company ships to Alaska or Hawaii.

Petflow also doesn’t allow any returns on products that are under $10. If you do need to return an item, you’re subjected to paying a return fee (which will cost you anywhere between $5.95 to $14.95 depending on the original price of the item). Additionally, Petflow can only accept returns for items purchased within the last 30 days. Chewy is much more lenient with its return policy, as pet owners have 365 days to return unopened or unused items.

When it comes to customer service, it seems impossible to beat Chewy. This company is known for its lenient return policy, excellent customer service representatives, fast delivery times, and sending portraits of people’s pets in the mail.

Chewy and Petflow both offer an auto-ship program. This program allows pet owners to put their favorite pet products on a delivery schedule, which is great for pet owners who need to purchase dog food or cat food, but don’t want to have to drive down to a store every few weeks. While many consumers praised Chewy’s easy-to-use auto-ship program, a few Petflow customers had issues with the program. Several customers never received their shipment, a few struggled to cancel their auto-ship subscriptions, and others felt that it was difficult to add products to their cart.

Overall, we recommend pet owners shop at Chewy for their pet supplies.
