Works with Local Animal Shelters

Petsense works with local animal shelters and rescues to help adoptable cats and dogs find their forever homes. During the spring and fall, Petsense will host a National Adopt-a-thon where shelter and rescue animals are brought in. Additionally, each Petsense store hosts a monthly adoption event that brings awareness to homeless animals and further encourages community involvement. Since 2005, Petsense has helped save over 85,000 animals through its adoption events.

Pet Salon and Grooming Services

Pet parents can take their pet to the store with them and get them groomed while they shop. The company offers a pet salon in each of its stores and several different grooming services:

  • De-shedding
  • Bath and trim

  • Full groom

The grooming services are fairly extensive; however, pet parents can take advantage of several additional services if their pet needs some extra care:

The Bad

  • Limited Pet Products

Only Located in 26 States

Petsense was founded in 2005 and first opened in Castle Rock, Colorado. In 2016, Petsense was acquired by Tractor Supply Co. and currently operates in over 175 stores in 26 states.

Petsense currently has locations in Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and Washington.

Some states may only have one or two retail locations, so while a Petsense is listed in several states, customers will need to check the website to find out if it is in their area.

Limited Pet Products

While Petsense does offer a variety of dog and cat supplies, the company does not have any other pet products. Many other online pet stores carry supplies for fish, reptiles, rabbits, ferrets, horses, and more.

The Bottom Line

Cat and dog owners will probably find just what they need for their pet at Petsense. The company offers a decent selection of food and supplies, at fairly competitive prices. However, pet owners with birds, fish, rabbits, ferrets, etc. will have to shop elsewhere as Petsense does not sell any supplies for more exotic animals.

Inside each store, pet owners will find a grooming salon, dog training area, and a Sav-A-Pet Center. Petsense doesn’t sell cats or dogs, instead, the company works with local animal shelters and rescues to help our furry friends find their forever home.

Bad groomer customer service. My groomer left Pet Sense between appointments. I was told that the current groomer would contact me for appointment. Nothing so far after a few weeks. Unprofessional.

The company sells a lot of products which is great! I don't know if I came in at the wrong time but it was empty. It was about 12:00 PM and I walked in. There was nobody at the cashier section and nobody at the grooming area. I looked around looking for my supplies with my dog. When I was looking around I was an employee (I'm guessing the cashier) was talking to a customer in the back talking about her job and what not. When I was leaving the store I heard a phone ringing by the grooming area. I saw that somebody was bathing a dog. After a few seconds nobody came out to answer the phone. There wasn't a single employee that even reached out for the phone.

I went to the Petsense off Rufe Snow. Sweetest people I’ve ever met! The Manager Christina and one of the employees Amy were very helpful and very professional. This is my first time owning a cat and Amy gave me so many great tips on how to be a great cat mama. She directed me to the best product for my cats tapeworm issue. Amy A.KA. poop professional. I love this place!

Our local PetSense in Alamogordo NM was rude and unwelcoming. A group of pet owners was briefly visiting the store with our pets as a part of an obedience class training. This was the last of 4 weekends of training, so the pets were all well behaved, on leash, with supervision. The supervisor of the store told us to leave and he did not want our business. The trainer for the class owns a pet day care/boarding facility in the area. She does not sell any merchandise. I will never enter this store or any of its companion stores again. I will also tell all of my fellow pet owners what happened and encourage them to take their business elsewhere.

Purchased 2 ferrets on 9/23 and discovered within 12 days that they were not suitable for our home as they stunk so bad. Talked to Jim he said I could bring them back within 14 days and when I went into return them I was told he misinformed me and they could not accept them. The 14 days meant if they died I could return them or got sick. Therefore their no hassle return policy is not valid and they did not tell me I could not return them regardless. Do not buy pets from them they will discover a way to get over on you. Go to PetSmart they do handle their customers a lot better!

I ordered 70 boxes of Stella and Chewy’s Mixins and Stews from PetSense. However, I am dissatisfied with this order on several levels: 1) I only received three of the Stella and Chewy's Grass Fed Beef Mixins, instead of the ten that I actually ordered and for which I paid. 2) At least 50% of the boxes were destroyed in the shipping process. 3) I placed my order on August 13 but it didn’t arrive until August 22 which means this fresh food order has been in transit for eight days in the extreme summer heat. I’ve called twice and emailed twice to discuss the situation, and yet they don’t respond. I was excited to find an on-line company that sells the Stella and Chewy's products that I use. However, none of this is acceptable. And I will never again buy another product from Pet Sense.
