The Good

  • In-Store Vaccinations
  • VIP Rewards
  • Pet Supermarket Grants

In-Store Vaccinations

Pet Supermarket retail locations offer VIP Petcare with no appointment needed. Whether it is for a cat or dog, customers can expect high-quality preventative care. Merely visit a Pet Supermarket retail location during the clinic hours and VIP Petcare will help determine the needs of a pet and possibly recommend veterinary care. Pet owners can keep their pets updated on vaccinations, microchipping, diagnostic tests and prescription flea, tick and heartworm preventative medication. Some locations even offer nail trimming services.

A licensed veterinarian administers all services.

VIP Rewards

Pet Supermarket customers can earn 1 point for every dollar they spend on eligible products. After accumulating 100 points, Pet Supermarket will issue a $5 award to the next purchase. The $5 award is then credited to the VIP customer account, available the next day. A VIP membership is free.

Pet Supermarket Grants

Teachers seeking a classroom pet can apply for a Pets in the Classroom Rebate Grant. Teachers can choose from a hamster, bunny, guinea pig, or an aquarium, the grants include up to $160 in supplies. Teachers can reapply for a $50 sustaining grant each fall.

The Bad

  • Limited Retail Locations
  • Moderate Product Selection
  • VIP Reward Restrictions
  • No Auto-Ship Program

Limited Retail Locations

Currently, Pet Supermarket only has retail stores in 10 states. Customers outside these locations will be able to order products online but cannot use the retail location services.

Pet Supermarket has retail locations in the following states:

  • Alabama
  • California
  • Florida
  • Georgia
  • Kentucky
  • Nevada
  • North Carolina
  • South Carolina
  • Tennesee
  • Texas

Moderate Product Selection

Pet Supermarket does have products for dogs, cats, reptiles, fish and other small animals. However, the variety of brands for each product seems limited.

VIP Reward Restrictions

While the VIP Reward program is useful for customers, the Pet Supermarket reward program has some stipulations that customers might want to consider:

  • Buy 10 bags of the same brand and size of dry dog or cat food, as outlined in the size chart, and get your 11th bag free
  • All 10 bags must fall in the same brand and bag size category to qualify for a free bag
  • The free bag must also be of the same brand and bag size category as the previous 10 bags
  • You can redeem your free bag award at any Pet Supermarket store
  • Trial sizes and free bags received as part of other promotions or contests are not eligible and do not count toward the VIP Frequent Buyer program
  • Buy 10 cases of the same brand and size of canned dog or cat food, and get your 11th case free; must be the same brand, sub-brand, and size, and the free case will be of the same brand, sub-brand, and size
  • Dog and cat purchases may not be combined
  • Certain brands, individual cans, biscuits and treats are not included in the VIP Frequent Buyer program, see a sales associate for complete details
  • All returned purchases will be deducted from your total accrual of bags and/or cases on your VIP account
  • Purchases must be made within a consecutive 12 month period to qualify for the free bag
  • Purchases older than 12 months will automatically be disqualified
  • A VIP account that is inactive for 6 months will lose all accumulated points
  • Point transfers are not allowed
  • Reward points cannot be used on Grooming Tails’ services, adoption fees, gift cards or other Pet Supermarket services

No Auto-Ship Program

Pet Supermarket doesn’t have an Auto-Ship program. This feature is handy for pet owners who are consistently buying pet food and other pet products.

The Bottom Line

Pet Supermarket offers some great services for pet owners (in-store vaccinations and the teacher's grant). The website has a moderate amount of products, but there doesn’t seem to be a large variety of brands. Also, customers may be frustrated with the limited retail locations, VIP reward restrictions, and the lack of an auto-ship program.

I have actually only ordered once from this site and it was because I had a discount deal and a code for free shipping. while on the site I did see that the items that I was likely to purchase were a little more that another site that I use more often. im sure I will use this site again but only if I can find a discount code for the items I need.
