The Good

  • 3 Different Testing Kits
  • Affordable STI Home Testing Kits
  • Accredited Partner Labs

3 Different Testing Kits

Patients can choose from one of Nurx’s STI home testing kits. There are three tests available: The Basics Covered Kit, Full Control Kit, and the Healthy Woman Kit.

The Basics Covered Kit is designed for people who have completed comprehensive testing within the past year and would just like a check-up. The kit checks for HIV, chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis.

The Full Control Kit includes a comprehensive set of tests for both men and women who haven’t been tested before or in more than a year. The kit tests for HIV, chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, and Hepatitis C.

The Healthy Woman Kit’s tests look for infections most likely to affect female bodies. The kit tests for HIV, chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, and trichomoniasis.

Affordable STI Home Testing Kits

Nurx’s mission is to make STI testing more affordable and accessible to everyone (whether you have insurance or not). Nurx’s site states that with health insurance, each test kit costs $75 plus the $15 consultation fee and any applicable copays or deductibles.

Without health insurance, the Basics Covered costs $150, the Healthy Woman costs $190, and the Full Control costs $220. These prices include the kit, lab testing, and shipping both ways.

Patients should keep in mind that if paying with insurance, Molecular Testing Labs will bill the cost of the lab testing to the patient’s insurance provider (does not include the price at checkout). Any out of pocket costs after the insurance is billed will depend on whether the insurance provider is in-network with the lab and your specific plan’s coverage.

Accredited Partner Labs

Nurx test kits are analyzed at the company’s partner laboratory, Molecular Testing Labs (MTL). According to Nurx’s site, MTL is a state-of-the-art lab that specializes in complex molecular testing and is CAP-accredited.

Molecular Testing Labs is also CLIA-approved, achieving the United States government’s standards of quality and safety under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments.

The Bad

  • Not Available Nationwide
  • Must Pay for a Medical Consultation

Not Available Nationwide

Currently, Nurx is not available to residents of the following states:

  • Alaska
  • Arkansas
  • Arizona
  • Connecticut
  • Delaware
  • Hawaii
  • Idaho
  • Kansas
  • Louisiana
  • Mississippi
  • Montana
  • North Dakota
  • New Hampshire
  • New Mexico
  • Nevada
  • New York
  • Oklahoma
  • Rhode Island
  • South Dakota
  • Vermont
  • West Virginia
  • Wyoming

Unfortunately, Nurx is currently unable to send home test kits to our patients in New York due to legislation that does not allow at-home collection and testing.

Patients can sign up via email if they’d like to be notified of when the company is available to send testing kits to their state.

Must Pay for a Medical Consultation

Patients will have to pay an extra $15 for their medical consultation. The $15 allows users to message Nurx’s medical team for a year about their tests or results. While this isn’t an outrageous cost, some companies offer free consultation services.

The Bottom Line

Nurx’s mission is to change up the industry and help make healthcare more accessible, affordable, and simpler for everyone. Anyone can order a kit from Nurx’s website, whether they have insurance or not. Nurx’s STI testing kits cost just $75 (with insurance). Without health insurance, the kits cost a bit more, but patients can expect to pay anywhere between $150 to $220.

Patients should keep in mind that if they pay with insurance, their out-of-pocket-expenses will depend on whether its partner lab (Molecular Testing Labs) is in-network with the patient’s insurance provider and on their plan’s specific coverage.
