The Good

  • Patent-pending technology
  • Interactive how-tos
  • Extensions
  • Free trial
Whatfix utilizes patent-pending technology that allows both businesses and individuals to quickly create training materials, interactive guides, and FAQ pages. The platform is divided into two sections-community and business, allowing companies of all sizes (even just a single blogger) to capitalize on their technology. In Whatfix for business, the goal is to "enhance self service capability of your product." This means
  • Onboard users: help first time users on your website with our smart interactive guides
  • Improve support: resolve customer queries easily with contextual help
  • Reduce training: streamline creation and integration of training documentation
Whatfix sets itself apart from what's already out on the web by making their how-tos interactive. With just a few clicks, customers can create and publish flows that present as "elegant slideshows." This can be integrated into any website. Flows can be used to:
  • Improve training effectiveness
  • Reduce customer support queries
  • Ensure quick adoption of tools and applications
  • Provide a collaborative way to create knowledge base
Whatfix uses Chrome and Firefox extensions to allow users to create flows with just a click, making the process even more simple and quick. Whatfix also capitalizes on Google Analytics, which allows you to track clicks, crashes, etc. In just two years, Whatfix has attracted substantial funding from Venture Capitol firms to continue building and strengthening their technology. They've also been used by companies like P&G, Google, and Maxwell Health. And the free trial makes it a risk-free investment.

The Bad

  • Limitations
  • Pricing
Whatfix provides a very specialized service. Its patent-pending technology has received very positive reviews for the ease with which you can create text-based guides. In many respects, it's an improvement that customers or employees don't have to sit through training videos to learn how to do something; however, at times, audio and video would be useful. Whatfix does allow you to integrate audio and video, but this is definitely not the main focus of their technology. The Chrome and Firefox extensions are useful in many ways, but users have noticed that if you cannot start a new flow if one is pending publishing. Instead, you must either publish it or discard it in order to begin working on a new one. Pricing is a little difficult to predict, because Whafix Enterprise depends on which features your company needs. This can only be obtained by contacting the sales team.

The Bottom Line

If you're looking at Whatfix as an online training platform, you may find that it is missing a number of features present in most of its competitors. There's not a lot of flexibility to what you can create-you're pretty much just left with interactive online instructions and guides; however, what it does, it does very well according to those who have used it. Rather than staffing a big call center or relying on manpower to answer questions (whether it be for your customers or employees), Whatfix provides those answers instead with what is regarded as easy to create, easy to understand training materials, interactive guides, and FAQ pages. Whatfix aims to provide you with guides that are actually helpful rather than lengthy articles or videos that are either hard to understand or a waste of time.
