If you've heard about invisible braces, you've likely heard of Invisalign. A pioneer in the industry, Invisalign has close to 100,000 orthodontists as well as dentists trained in Invisalign's process and products in more than 90 countries across the world. With help from its dental experts, Invisalign has helped more than 8 million people improve their smiles.

A newer but still well-known name in the invisible braces industry is Candid. With tens of thousands of patients and over 300 employees, Candid has an impressive reputation that has earned the company a high consumer rating. Candid is unique in that it does not work with general dentists — the company exclusively operates its business with expert orthodontists, making its quality of service more reliable than some of its competitors.

Candid and Invisalign differ in a variety of ways, including price, treatment options, and more. A few noteworthy differences that we'll expand on below include the following:

  • Candid has a cheaper price point than Invisalign.
  • Candid offers teeth whitening products, but Invisalign does not.
  • Invisalign requires in-office visits, while Candid offers at-home treatment.

Candid and Invisalign are similar in a few areas as well:

  • Both companies have an average treatment time of 6 months.
  • Candid and Invisalign offer a free initial teeth scan to determine if you are an eligible customer.
  • Both invisible braces providers have positive reviews.

My 3rd aligner had a tare in it and was flimsy. It was cutting my tongue and gums. Not the quality of the other aligners. When speaking to the care team about it, nothing was done. Would not recommend.

Invisalign is great for if your child doesn’t want to the wrong attention from school bullies! They work great and the results are fantastic! My son didn’t want to be called brace face and have his gums all cut up! He is very happy with them. Just be careful not to throw them away after you eat in a restaurant! Always Cary an extra case in the car! Same price as normal braces for us!

Just too expensive for me. I wasn't willing to spend that much money for my teenage son. I do like the process and how the product is made. Like how you get your steps and its great for braces. I just wasn't willing to spend so much money. My bestie had them as she refered us but yeah for a teenager iono about cost.

The Final Word

Pricing (Winner: Candid)

Candid offers two pricing options. You can either pay for treatment in one lump sum of $2,400, or you can pay a down payment of $399 and pay for the rest of your treatment with a monthly price of $99 per month for 24 months. Candid also accepts HSA and FSA payments.

Invisalign doesn't provide much information on its pricing other than that it is similar to the cost of braces, which could be anywhere from $3,000 to $7,000. This is significantly more expensive than most invisible braces providers who typically charge under $2,500. However, Invisalign does note on its website that it accepts HSA and FSA payments, and monthly payment plans are available.

Free initial teeth scan (Winner: Candid and Invisalign)

Both Candid and Invisalign offer free teeth scans for new patients. This way, you can determine if you're an eligible candidate for invisible braces. If you're not, you don't need to worry about paying Candid or Invisalign for your scan. You will only need to pay Candid and Invisalign if you decide to move forward with treatment.

Treatment length (Winners: Candid and Invisalign)

Although treatment length will vary based on the customer, both Candid and Invisalign have an average treatment length of six months. This is similar to most other invisible braces providers on the market.

At-home treatment option (Winner: Candid)

An important benefit that consumers often look for in invisible braces providers is the option to complete treatment at home with no required dental visits. This convenience is what a large majority of customers are looking for since a significant amount of invisible braces customers are adults with busy lives. Invisalign doesn't offer an at-home treatment option. If you're interested in Invisalign, you'll need to attend regular dental visits.

Candid, on the other hand, offers a remote monitoring option. You can complete treatment at home without having to book and attend regular office visits. However, this doesn't mean you'll receive poor treatment; a Candid orthodontist still oversees your care and ensures you are on track throughout treatment and that you have what you need to complete treatment happily. You also will have only one assigned orthodontist, so the same orthodontist that creates your treatment plan will also be the one following up with you regularly until the end of your invisible braces process. It's convenient that you won't have to deal with a variety of different orthodontists throughout your treatment.

For those customers who prefer a more hands-on treatment process, Candid also has studios where you can attend regular office visits and complete treatment by regularly seeing an orthodontist in person and going through the invisible braces process that way. Candid studios are available in these areas:

  • Atlanta, Georgia
  • Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
  • Austin, Texas
  • San Diego, California
  • Boca Raton, Florida
  • San Francisco, California
  • Boston, Massachusetts
  • San Jose, California
  • Chelsea, New York
  • Santa Monica, California
  • Chicago, Illinois
  • Scottsdale, Arizona
  • Columbus, Ohio
  • Seattle, Washington
  • Dallas, Texas
  • Tysons Corner, Virginia
  • Houston, Texas
  • Upper East Side, New York
  • Irvine, California
  • Washington, D.C.
  • Miami, Florida
  • West Hollywood, California

Teeth whitening offerings (Winner: Candid)

Most invisible braces companies offer teeth whitening as an additional service for its customers. That way, you can get a whiter and brighter smile while simultaneously straightening your teeth. Candid offers two types of teeth whitening solutions: a whitening pen and whitening foam. The whitening pen is $30 for a pack of three. The pack of three whitening pens lasts for about 60 days if you whiten your teeth once per day. The whitening foam is convenient if you want to put the whitening foam in your invisible aligners. You just put half a pump of the whitening foam into each aligner tray and wear them like normal. Many customers choose to put the whitening foam in at night so they don't have to worry about it during the day. You can also use the teeth whitening foam as an aligner cleaner up to four times a day. The whitening foam is $25 for a small bottle.

Invisalign doesn't offer a teeth whitening option. This is unfortunate for customers looking to whiten their teeth during their invisible braces treatment.

Cost of retainers (Winner: Candid)

On par with most invisible braces providers, Candid offers replacement retainers for $100. Unfortunately, Invisalign does not state on its website how much replacement retainers cost, so it's difficult to know how its pricing compares to other companies. However, Invisalign is typically more expensive, so its retainers are likely more than $100 per pair.

Customer reviews (Winner: Candid)

Both Candid and Invisalign have impressive customer reviews with positive feedback, including great customer service, effective and straightforward treatment, and a quick turnaround on aligners.

Candid's customer reviews are especially impressive because if the company receives customer complaints, Candid often replies to the customers and has an associate contact them directly to resolve the issue. This shows Candid cares about individual customers and makes it a point to settle customer concerns.

Candid vs. Invisalign — Which is best?

If you're wanting a more affordable price with an at-home treatment option, Candid is the better invisible braces provider for you. Invisalign is significantly more expensive and doesn't offer an at-home treatment plan. Candid also excels in additional areas, such as offering teeth whitening solutions and providing more transparent pricing information.
