  • Daily Credit Monitoring

Affordable Monthly Plans

USAA offers three different identity theft protection plans for individuals and families. One plan is free, one costs $7.95 per month, and one costs $12.95 per month. These plans feature credit reports and scores, dedicated fraud support services, and more.

Daily Credit Monitoring

USAA's free plan offers daily credit monitoring and alerts with Experian. The company's higher-tiered plans provide monitoring from all three major credit bureaus: Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax.

  • Lack of Information

Service Limitations

Customers must either be a military member or the relative of a military member in order to sign up for USAA's services.

Lack of Information

USAA states that it provides identity theft protection expense reimbursement policies to members; however, the company has not disclosed the exact coverage amount. It is also unclear how much the company will reimburse identity theft victims for lost wages and other expenses.

The Bottom Line

The $7.95 per month plan includes daily monitoring of Experian, Transunion and Equifax credit reports, not just Experian. The only difference between the $7.95 and $12.95 per month plan is that the $12.95 plan provides monthly credit reports from all three bureaus whereas the $7.95 plan only provides a monthly Experian report. I am on the $7.95 plan because I can get my Transunion and Equifax reports for free on Credit Karma. The service is provided through Experian and is essentially the same service provided by Protectmyid at half the cost. For credit monitoring and ID protection with a million dollars in insurance this is an excellent value.

This article is dated or the author is simply uninformed. USAA clearly discloses that they cover up to a million dollars for identify theft related expenses. Please get your facts straight before bashing their service. We've had this service for almost two years and love the peace of mind it offers. We get alerts any time our identities are used for anything (even if it's us applying for something... opening a new bank account for example). It seems extremely robust and reliable, like most USAA products. Fortunately we've never had to file a claim for identity theft.

I've had my checking account with USAA for 3+ years. I switched from one of the major banks in the US because that bank did not have good , friendly or timely customer service. USAA gives quick friendly service and responds to questions about my account as if I was a major client. The sign-on process is multi-step to provide ID protection. We feel very confident that our personal info, files and records are well-protected. Each and all of our monthly direct deposits are credited into our checking account timely compared to the bank I had been using for many years. USAA reimburses their clients for ATM fees charged by any/all banks. Their on-line bill paying service is so very user-friendly. My wife and I are very happy that we switched to USAA banking.....for sure!

There has bee 3 times that my Debit card was hacked in the past 2 years and fraudulent charges put on it, USAA ID Protection notified me of the suspicious charges almost immediately one from a gas station and the others from some adult sites they inquired if I had made these and I assured them that I had not and the gas station was in Georgia, I live in Florida. They immediately froze those cards and overnighted me new cards, suggested different ways to protect myself and my cards by using gas pumps closer to the station entrance that most card readers attached to pumps are at the further away from the store which is usually where I would pull up to because they where easier to get out of.

We decided to get identity theft protection after a previous incident (see our review of LifeLock) when my identity was stolen during a breach of OPM records. We had been given a year of LifeLock, but decided to switch to USAA after the year was up. I know not everyone has access to USAA, but if you do I highly recommend them for this (and most things). They were much easier to deal with than LifeLock.

I served with the U. S. Army in Iraq. I'm now out of the Army but still have my USAA account. I noticed some unauthorized charges and imediatly contacted USAA ID Protection. The customer service representative acted quickly and I got all the information needed. My funds were refunded to my account. It was handled quickly and professionally. Im very happy I have USAA ID Protection.

I actually signed up for the ID Protection after USAA contacted me about a possible compromised account with them. I had not paid for the service, but I was and am a USAA customer. High quality like all of their products.

I have been a USAA member for 10 years now. They have a 2 step verification process every time I login and call into the company. The company is both professional and secure. I would highly recommend

Luckily, I’ve never had to use the service. It was easy to sign up for with the USAA customer service rep. It was nice knowing I had the protection there.

Experian charged every credit card I listed for 101.36 and when I challenged them they would not explain or return my emails. I would say that is Claud as never allowed them to use one card and they over charged the USAA price, Ian still trying to discuss with them no luck, I they are this dishonest how can they monitor my accounts!
