Allstate, which is the largest publicly-held personal lines property and casualty insurer in America, began offering identity theft protection services in 2009.

Allstate Identity Protection, previously known as InfoArmor, provides both preventative and restorative services to Allstate customers in the event of identity theft. The company offers two identity protection plan options which include an Essentials plan and a Premier plan for both individuals and families.

When it comes to technology, the identity theft protection company has a unique privacy management system called Allstate Digital Footprint. This system lets consumers view their online account activity to see who may have been able to obtain access to their data.

In addition to the Allstate Digital Footprint system, Allstate Identity Protection provides consumers with customizable fraud alerts, monitoring services, and more.

The Good

  • Patented Technology
  • Reliable Expense Coverage
  • Proactive Monitoring Services
  • 24/7 Customer Support

Patented Technology

Unlike the majority of other companies in the identity theft protection industry, Allstate Identity Protection offers a unique privacy management system called Allstate Digital Footprint.

In addition to the Allstate Digital Footprint, the company's patented technology is able to scan Allstate members' inboxes in order to determine digital relationships.

According to the company's website, Allstate will also alert members of "compromised accounts, data breaches, and even the types of data that might be exposed."

Reliable Expense Coverage

In the event of identity theft or fraud, Allstate Identity Protection provides up to $1 million in expense coverage. This expense coverage policy covers and reimburses customers for expenses related to the theft.

Since Allstate provides this type of coverage with its identity protection services, members do not have to worry about paying out-of-pocket expenses if they are caught up in an identity theft crime. It's important to note that, while some companies in the industry do provide this same level of identity theft insurance, many companies still fall short in this area.

In addition to expense coverage, the company also provides up to $500,000 in reimbursement for stolen funds. Allstate Identity Protection also includes a tax fraud refund advance service.

Proactive Monitoring Services

Allstate Identity Protection offers a number of proactive monitoring services, including financial monitoring, dark web surveillance monitoring, credit card transaction monitoring, and social media monitoring, to better catch identity theft or fraud before it actually happens.

The company recognizes the ever-growing threat of identity theft crime and strives to keep its members' personal information safe from varying data breaches that occur.

Allstate Identity Protection also offers customizable fraud alerts and notifications.

24/7 Customer Support

Allstate Identity Protection provides members with around-the-clock access to fraud remediation experts as well as U.S-based customer service representatives.

This is a positive aspect since the majority of other companies in the identity theft protection industry cannot promise 24/7 U.S.-based customer support and/or help from specific fraud experts.

The Bad

  • Limited Prevention Services
  • Only Available to Allstate Customers

Limited Prevention Services

While Allstate offers several identity restoration services, its identity theft prevention services are lacking, especially when compared to other services in the industry.

For example, Allstate does not appear to offer credit monitoring or social security monitoring services, which are all important features that many other companies offer as they can help to prevent identity theft and fraud from happening.

Only Available to Allstate Customers

Allstate's identity theft protection services are only available to existing insurance policyholders. Those who wish to obtain Allstate Identity Protection must become an Allstate insurance member.

The Bottom Line

Allstate Identity Protection, which was previously known as InfoArmor, boasts a variety of positive service qualities including custom alerts, financial monitoring and dark web surveillance monitoring, 24/7 customer support, and patented technology including an advanced privacy management system called Allstate Digital Footprint.

While Allstate offers a number of identity restoration services, the company's prevention services are limited. Additionally, Allstate's identity services are only available to its existing policyholders.

If you have an Allstate insurance policy, this identity theft protection service may be a good option for you, especially if you have not yet taken any steps to protect your identity. Going forward, we recommend that you read customer reviews and visit Allstate's website to get more information about its identity protection services.

If you are not an Allstate policyholder and you are not interested in becoming one anytime soon, you may want to consider looking for identity protection services elsewhere. Many companies offer similar identity theft protection services without the insurance membership requirement.
