Halogen Software is more than just one software package. It is a complete resource of modular talent management solutions. It has tools for measuring performance, peer reviewing capabilities, learning, compensation resources, meetings functionality, and even a Myers-Briggs personality assessment. The company has been in business since 2001. It is based out of Ontario, Canada. Some of the core features include email reminders, a free trial, powerful reporting, and self-service functionalities for employees.
We saw that Halogen offers multiple tiers of support for different types of companies. We found that the Myers-Briggs assessment could be a useful tool for finding out different personality types in your company. Some of the Halogen solutions we looked at were not available with other companies. One of the features that we saw with Halogen included its Compensation Management service. While this is not a payroll tool, it is an important tool for calculating raises. You can use the merit matrix to compare an employee's performance to raise percentiles. The Compensation Management module will then notify an employee of when they are eligible for a raise and how much. There are also tools, including merit budgets, and guidelines that let managers adjust their raises across their company. Halogen Software also has a meeting tool. Here are some of the core features of this product:
The 360 Multirater, from Halogen, is a powerful tool for getting employee feedback from across your company. The features of the 360 Multirater included:
We found that the Performance module was also a great tool that came with the overall suite. With this module, you can share performance feedback with key players in your organization. This tool is also good for developing career and professional development plans. This is also where your employees can be rated in their profile. The talent manager can be socialized within the Performance platform, posting updates about employee progress. The Myer-Briggs personality assessment lets you see how employees will work together and how their personalities fit into your company. Employees can take the assessment and get a downloadable report. The reports for your company will also describe the number of employees with each specific personality score on the assessment. With Halogen, it is also possible to find hidden talent within your organization. The personality assessment, as well as the customized reports and employee profile, can help your managers find employee skill sets that you didn't know about.
We did have some issues with Halogen's transparency. We wanted to figure out the pricing features for Halogen and were unable to find it on their company website. We found out that you had to schedule a consultation in order to get pricing information about this company's modular support solutions. Here are some of the other concerns we had with Halogen Software:
One of the biggest concerns we had with Halogen was the lack of app integrations. We found that you could post jobs to www.smartjobs.com. It also integrates with your email client. The open API solutions further support Sharepoint, Yammer, and other third-party management systems. There is not a lot of functionality with other "standard" applications with Halogen. On one section of the website, Halogen mentioned that the talent management modules let employees share key updates on their profiles, such as when they reached a key goal or milestone. There should be some social media functionality, especially with LinkedIn, built into the Halogen platform to help external candidates conduct reviews and for the recruitment process. We also wondered about the lack of integration with payroll, HRMS, and HRIS systems. The merit matrix tool doesn't integrate with a payroll platform. This is a con with Halogen because labor statistics within a company can help drive pay raises and decreases.
We might recommend Halogen Software as a talent management resource to augment other platforms that your company uses. We found that the Merit Matrix is an invaluable tool for determining fair raises and promotions for employees. Another important tool with Halogen was the ability to schedule meetings with specific organizational goals. Overall, the feedback tool is the most useful with Halogen. You can solicit feedback from within and outside your organization, including peer-to-peer, managerial, and supplier/customer feedback. The 360 Multirater can then be used for performance reviews, as well as provide a gauge on how your company is doing. The Talent Acquisition tool, at this time, is pretty limited, as we only saw one job board listed. We also struggled with the site's lack of transparency, in terms of pricing.
We're on a mission to empower consumers to make the best decisions and connect confidently with companies that deserve their business.
