Quality Hotel origins stem from a marketing cooperative formed in 1939 under the name Quality Courts United, the nation's first hotel chain. Later to become Choice Hotels International, it was the first in the hotel industry to offer innovations such as guaranteed, toll-free reservations, 24-hour desk service, the iPhone app for hotels and non-smoking rooms. Today, Quality Hotel is the largest conversion brand of Choice Hotels International, known for giving guests great value for their hard-earned money.

The Good

  • Amenities
  • Positive feedback
  • Convenient locations
Quality specializes in the five "value Qs":
  • Q Bed - Premium mattress and bedding, with traditional or triple sheeting options
  • Q Breakfast - Free breakfast offering hot, free and healthy menu options
  • Q Shower - Consumer and operations-tested with curved shower rod, multi-setting shower head and upgraded amenities
  • Q Service - Professional, responsive and friendly staff
  • Q Value - Free amenities, including high-speed Internet, daily newspaper, coffee and tea in the lobby, and local calls (U.S. locations); pool or fitness center
The "Value Qs" focus on what people care most about. Quality Inn's brand centers on consistency in these five areas, allowing for more flexibility in physical plant and design/decor. Quality Inn hotels prides itself on being more than the  typical discount hotel chain by offering real value with the best hotel rates. Customers  get an affordable hotel with all standard amenities for all occasions-including:
  • comfortable beds
  • a hot breakfast
  • refreshing showers
  • friendly service intended to give customers their money's worth, be it for business travel, a weekend getaway or vacation.
Quality Inn insists on making guests' stay enjoyable. If guests are not satisfied with Quality Inn's accommodations or service, they ask for guests to please let the front desk know without delay so they can make it right. Positive feedback from guests consist of:
  • Light for reading -good
  • Bed -Comfortable.
  • Air Conditioning-Heater-Good but very noisy
  • Wi-Fi- Good
  • TV- Very good size
  • Refrigerator- not too noisy and a microwave
  • Room for bags-plenty
  • Tea Kettle or coffee maker- yes
  • Bathroom-regular amenities, clean
  • Shower pressure- a bit low but good enough, it needs cleaning.
  • Safety bar in bathroom-yes
  • Towels-Lots nice and clean
  • Amenities -normal
  • Hair dryer-wall good power
  • Full length mirror-yes
  • Parking -yes
  • Iron and ironing board-yes
Quality Inn's strongpoint is actually its conversion flexibility for franchise owners. Benefits include:
  • a customized approach, assessing owner's property and market conditions
  • tailoring improvement plans designed to increase the value of owner's asset over the long term.
  • embraced product diversity, through brand hallmarks
  • a cost effective way to provide brand consistency and to market the strong value proposition of the Quality Inn brand, centered on the "Value Qs"
  • working closely with developers during the design process to create a flexible and efficient prototype with a cohesive look and feel throughout. Every aspect was thoughtfully considered in the goal to blend sophistication and value.
Hotel locations are designed with developers in mind. Quality Inn provides hotel franchise owners a great opportunity for an existing asset looking to strengthen its market position and to drive a return on investment. Each hotel franchise is strengthened during conversion using Quality Inn's streamlined, value-oriented programs, designed to provide great value and satisfaction to guests. Hotel locations are often in convenient, high traffic areas, with many things in walking distance.  Rooms are reported to be clean and spacious with basic amenities such as a microwave and fridge. The staff is said to be friendly and helpful. There is a hot breakfast reported as 'nice'.

The Bad

  • Accommodations
  • Complaints
  • Pets
Quality Inn accommodations are sometimes said to be 'decent' and 'adequate'. The hot breakfast is deemed satisfactory but not as good as the signature hot breakfast at Comfort Inn hotels. Several complaints about Quality Inn hotels include:
  • paper thin walls
  • tiny swimming pool inconveniently located close to the street
  • The outside of the motel has the generic look of all US motels circa 1970s -- nothing aesthetic whatsoever.
  • Entry doors of the rooms are right out on the parking lot (i.e. no hallways, not set back from the parking lot) -- with the accompanying noise and lack of privacy.
Overall, the price is economical and adequate with reception being very friendly; however, its amenities appear to fall short of the hotel's brand promises of giving guests the best value for their money. This sentiment has been affirmed by guests on the following amenities:
  • Breakfast- held in a very reduced space.
  • Light for reading -needs lamp by bed
  • Bed -the bedspread is not very hygienic as they don't wash it for every guest. Most hotels no longer have them.
  • Air Conditioning-Heater-Good but very noisy
  • Shower pressure- a bit low but good enough, it needs cleaning.
  • Cloths line- no
  • Makeup mirror -no
  • Parking -needs some trash cans in the parking lot. Some gardening or decoration will help, the premises have no curve appeal.
  • Laundry-no self serve
  • Complimentary bottle water-no
If customers are traveling with pets, chances are Quality Inn won't take them. To find a specific Quality Inn hotel that does accommodate pets, one has to search the Choice Hotel.com website under the category  'pet-friendly hotels.' Also to be noted is that promoted amenities are typical at most United States hotels but not guaranteed. Additionally, amenities will vary at International locations.

The Bottom Line

Quality Inn is a great economical choice for guests just wanting a clean place to lay their head for the night. No frills, decent and clean. Unfortunately, many of the family-owned Quality Inn franchise hotels are not as modern or aesthetically pleasing with the beautiful relaxing ambiance as the advertising and guest rankings might suggest.

This Quality Inn Just recently changed from a days Inn north Carlisle, Pa where I Had been staying on and off the last few years. The second night I stayed there someone tried to gain entry to my room at 0200 A.M., the male subject produced a key card for the same room I was in then he apologized and headed downstairs to thee lobby. I tried to call the front office twice but nobody picked the phone up. I went to the desk in the morning and they apologized for what happened but evidently when I checked in they never recorded it in the computer. The day I checked out the clerk refused to give me a receipt and advised I have to get it from the booking agency. The establishment was great when it was the Days Inn but after this stay I don't know if I would ever go back.

I stayed at the Quality Inn in Ottumwa, IA. Inexpensive hotel, good area, & friendly workers. My room was ready when I checked in, clean early afternoon & had a nice continental breakfast for me in the mornings. If I were to travel back to IA, this would be my choice of hotel.

I stayed in this hotel with my grandparents, and it was a cheaper hotel. It doesn't have all the bells and whistle's, but if you need something cheap and a quick place to stay, this is great. If you want to stay for a longer time, maybe find something better and more comfortable.

I have used Quality Inn before for housing most recently in Kosciusko, MS. The staff if friendly and the rooms have recently been remodeled. Even though it is an old hotel, the staff really tries to keep it clean. Also, it is quite affordable and accepts pets.

One of our favorite chains. Reliably clean, comfortable, and excellent value for the price. While we’ve stayed at the Utah locations near national parks, I highly doubt you can go wrong.

Quality Inn rooms are usually comfortable and clean but sometimes the facilities can be a bit older and in need of repair. The amenities are modest and the customer service is typical of many motels in this price range. The big plus of Quality Inn is that they are very reasonably priced which can be a big plus for families traveling on a limited budget.

We used a Quality Inn a couple years ago while traveling to see family. It was very basic, no frills or extras. I would say that it is very average. Nothing too great, but nothing too bad either. It's good for a quick overnight stay while travelling.

For the price you pay it is a great deal. I feel like the quality of the hotel and rooms is starting to improve. They usually have a free breakfast included which is a bonus when traveling with family and the overall hotel is nice.

The biggest problem I’ve had with Quality Inn is the different quality from location to location so it’s hard to know for sure what I’m getting when I book the hotel. Some have been very nice, some have been absolutely terrible.

We stayed at one not too long ago, the mattresses were very thin and hard. It was all very plain, not very nice at all. Really thin, tiny towels that you needed like five of them to dry off with. They were cheap and that is why we stayed there, just needed a place for a night while traveling.

My family recently stayed at a Quality Inn and it wasn't a pleasant experience. Our room felt dirty and unkempt the second we arrived. The hotel was outdated and the price of our stay was not cheap.

Not the biggest room but the continental breakfast made up for it and still was able to have a good nights rest. Could hear more through the door than I wanted to.

The Quality Inn is quality. Ha! But for real, this place is a decent hotel that I didn't mind staying in. The amenities are nice, but I wish there was a microwave.

This is a basic hotel chain to stay at when you just need a bed to rest and not spend much time in your room.
