Comfort Inn began as a marketing cooperative formed in 1939 under the name Quality Courts United, the nation's first hotel chain. Later to become Choice Hotels International, it was the first in the hotel industry to guarantee reservations and offer a variety of innovative amenities such as 24-hour desk service, toll- free reservations, the iPhone app for hotels and non-smoking rooms. Today, Comfort Inn is the largest, most popular brand of Choice Hotels spanning across the United States and over 35 countries worldwide.

The Good

  • Amenities
  • Locations
  • Price matching
Comfort Inn excels at offering free amenities, such as:
  • A hot breakfast, everything from eggs and meat to healthy options like yogurt and fresh fruit, and both original and flavored waffles.
  • A pool, workout room,  high speed internet access and free parking.
  • Free shuttle to and from airport.
  • Friendly and helpful staff.
  • Well -equipped rooms with mattresses comparable to five star hotels, along with free high-speed internet access and landline phone.
  • Rooms that typically have a refrigerator, microwave, hairdryer, coffee maker in the room and  2 bottles of water per day.
  • Free local phone calls and basic cable.
  • Mobile apps that makes booking fast and easy.
  • Competitive prices compared to other major metro hotels.
Hotel locations are often in convenient places, such as near airports, restaurants, high traffic areas, tourist attractions, and train terminals.  This makes for a less expensive trip with many things in walking distance. Comfort Inn has a fair price match policy: If online customers find a lower published rate for the same hotel and accommodations for the same dates at any other qualified online source, Comfort Inn will match the rate for their room, plus give them a FREE night. It is also kid-friendly, allowing kids 18 and under to stay for free. For business or special event purposes, Comfort Inn offers great rates for groups. People can book more than 26 rooms at a time (if available) and get a group discount.  The process of group booking is simple and easy. All guests have to do is fill out a group request form telling the hotel their needs. A toll-free phone number is available also for booking.

The Bad

  • Small
  • Noise
  • Pets
Comfort Inn rooms are said to be very small. There seems to be no one to help customers with luggage. One has to be cautious of leaving any marks because the hotel may send a bill. One customer received a 75.00 bill for towels she used that were left permanently stained with her makeup. The charges were to replace the towels since the towels were white. They also charge no-show room charges if customers do not cancel soon enough. Customers may still be charged if going through a third party site like , even if canceled in time. So it may be best to book directly with the hotel since they appear not to handle third party issues very well. In some hotels, noise has been an issue. This is the downside of the hotel being conveniently located in high traffic areas. It is best, if possible, to get an "inside room",  meaning a room facing the hotel courtyard or parking lot. Or simply ask for a quiet room in the back when booking.  The walls are thin, and noise from outside or from other hotel guests is very intrusive. The heating and cooling unit, i.e. the air conditioner, can be louder than one would like. If customers are traveling with pets, chances are Comfort Inn won't take them. To find a specific Comfort Inn hotel that does accommodate pets, one has to search the Choice website under the category  'pet-friendly hotels.' Some of the free amenities have a down-side. The free airport shuttle only comes once every half hour for pick up at airport, not on demand.  Customers should sign up for shuttle to airport service on check-in because it can fill up quickly. Shuttle leaves from the hotel to the airport only on the hour.  Also to be noted is that promoted amenities are typical at most United States hotels but not guaranteed. Additionally, amenities will vary at International locations.

The Bottom Line

Comfort Inn is a great economical choice for short business trips, one-nighters, day trips, and people with children under 18.  They offer a list of free cost-saving amenities like free breakfast, free parking, free internet access, free stay for children under 18, free airport shuttle service and free pool and workout areas. Hotels are conveniently located near airports, buses and trains. Hotels also tend to be in high traffic areas, so customers can go sight-seeing and tour locally on foot without spending a lot of money on travel. Globally, the staff has an outstanding international reputation for being friendly, helpful and available day or night.  Even people who were unhappy with their hotel stay had nothing but good to say about the staff. Overall, customers can get a bang for their buck here. The only complaint seems to be the noise (bring earplugs if a light sleeper) and small but clean and comfortable rooms.

It's not the worst hotel I've been to, but it's not the best. It is fair for the price. The room seemed a little small and the beds were pretty hard. We've used them from time to time while we were on vacation with the kids.

The Comfort Inn has been a pretty decent place to go to when traveling. It's cheap, not the best amenities or beds. But not a bad place to stay when you are on a roadtrip.

The hotels are old and outdated. The breakfast is also terrible. Employees are questionable. I do not recommend.
