I was only with Total Home Protection for two months. On the hottest day of the year my air conditioning unit gave out. The excuse they gave me for not fixing it was that it was not properly maintained even though I had the unit 15 years. They did not want replace the compressor. I am filing a claim with the Better Business Bureau because this company is fraudulent. Do not get a policy with them. Protect your appliances with extended warranty and be done with it. Because total home protection will not replace or fix your covered appliances.

The customer placed a claim for a Air Conditioner not cooling on 6/23/2018. The diagnosis concluded that the cause of the failure was a shorted to ground compressor. Per our policy this failure is clearly excluded from coverage. Please see the referenced section of the policy below; V. COVERAGE A. Air Conditioning System Note: Coverage available on Air Conditioning units up to a 5-ton capacity, and for residential use only. COVERED: Mechanical parts and components of two (2) ducted electric central air conditioning systems. All components and parts for units below 13 SEER and/or R-22 equipment, and when we are unable to facilitate repair and/or replacement of failed covered equipment at the current SEER rating or with R-22 equipment, repair and/or replacement will be performed with 13 SEER/R410A equipment and/or 7.7 HSPF or higher compliant, except: NOT COVERED: Filters; condenser casings; registers and grills; water towers; humidifiers; chillers; electronic air cleaners; window units; non-ducted wall units; mini-split wall units; gas air conditioning systems; water evaporative coolers; swamp coolers; condensate pumps; thermal expansion valves; all exterior condensing, cooling and pump pads; disconnect boxes; roof mounts, jacks, stands or supports; cost for crane rentals; electronic, computerized, and manual systems management and zone controllers; commercial grade equipment; refrigerant conversion; leak detections; water leaks; drain line stoppages or drain pans; maintenance; rusted and/or corroded coils; component short to ground; noise without a related mechanical failure; improperly sized units; air conditioning with mismatched condensing unit and evaporative coil per manufacturer specifications; improper use of metering devices (i.e. thermal expansion valves). I've had Total Home Protection for 14 months. On 5/16/18 they sent a technician out to replace the oven ignitor which had gone bad in my Maytag Gemini stove. and got it working. On 5/30/18 they sent the technician out again as the oven would not work, as the control board wasn't working. The part was not available as the stove is at least 15 yrs old. I called and asked them what would happen if they couldn't get a part and they said they would replace the stove, which costs $1400. Now, they are saying the oven was dirty and refuse to replace it. The excuse they used was my oven was full of grease!!!. I had cleaned the oven a month or two earlier by pressing the automatic CLEAN button on the stove that does a great job of cleaning. It heats up the oven to such a high temperature crease could no withstand it. The circuit or control board has nothing to do with a dirty oven in the first place. When they found out how much the replacement stove would cost they changed their mind about replacing it. They even complained about the $500 they had spent on repairing my appliances in the 14 month period i'd had an account with them!!!

The first time the technician diagnosed the igniter failed. The claim was covered as it was under the pre set authorization amount and the technician did not mention the condition of the oven. He then called back in to advised there was a second failure and advised the unit was full of grease. The technician provided pictures and based on the diagnosis and the pictures, it was determine the failure was not covered due to Lack of Maintenance. Per our policy this failure is clearly excluded from coverage. Please see the referenced section of the policy below; VII. GENERAL LIMITATIONS OF LIABILITY D. This Agreement covers only repairs and/or replacements due to mechanical failure attributable to ordinary wear and tear. Accordingly, the Agreement does not cover failures which may result from other causes, such as without limitation abuse; misuse and/or neglect; lack of maintenance; rust and/or corrosion; noise without a related mechanical failure; chemical or sedimentary build up; lightning strikes; missing parts; animal, pet and/or pest damage; power failure; power surge; fire; casualty; acts of God; structural and/or property damage; flood; smoke; earthquake; freeze damage; accidents; war; acts of terrorism; nuclear explosion, reaction, radiation or radioactive contamination; insurrection; riots; vandalism; or intentional destruction of property. This Agreement does not cover mechanical failures resulting directly or indirectly from or caused by mold, mildew, mycotoxins, fungus, bacteria, virus, condensation, and/or wet or dry rot regardless of the source, origin, or location and any other cause or event contributing concurrently or in any sequence to the mechanical failure. I don’t know what I what I would've done without my home warranty! We had a small electrical fire. The fire ruined my attic and living room. Total Home Protection was quick to respond. They scheduled a contractor to come out and take a look at the electrical wiring in my house. The contractor was definitely an expertise in his field and he took the stress out of a bad situation. Although my warranty, could not cover the damage actually caused by the fire, because it was secondary, I was grateful that they were able to cover the cost of the rewiring of my home. I've had Total Protect Home Warranty for over 10 years and have had great service until now. My water heater went out 2 weeks ago, I called in the problem and Total Protect sent out a company to check out the water heater. Serviceman said yes the water heater is out (which was pretty obvious since I had water all over my hallway) and reported back to Total Protect. Since then there have been several calls to Total Protect by the service company and myself (just got off the phone with them) and Total Protect either says it's in research or they are waiting to hear back from the repair company. (a lie the service company told me) If you're looking to use a Home Warranty company I would highly recommend you look elsewhere. As soon as this repair is finished I will be doing as much!

I had an unexpected issue with my water heater. At first, I didn’t know who to trust with such a repair. But, when I called Mike at customer support, I was reminded that Total Home Protection pre-screens local repair people—saving me the time of having to research local repairman and money. I was also grateful for their 24/7 support since my water heater quit on me at 3 am. I would absolutely recommend this company for these reasons alone. I signed up with THP last November. I had a claim in March or April with my disposal. I moved into this house in 2014. I had an inspection before the purchase. This disposal claim was denied because the plumbing wasn't correct. I'm not a plumber so I had no way of knowing about this issue until I had a claim. THP would not even negotiate any part of the expenses. I had to have it replaced at my own expense. Second claim this week was for my a/c. It was denied because the coils were dirty enough to cause the unit to get hot. I had washed it several times but evidently not good enough because the coils were still dirty on the side facing the house. I cleaned as well as I could. I couldn't see back there well enough to notice it needed more cars. I was never advised to have it done professionally to make sure it was clean. But again I get penalized for ignorance. THP doesn't offer good preventative maintenance plans for people who don't know how to care in detail. All THP would say is "check your manufacturer manual". Guess what. There wasn't one with the house. Maybe someone has better knowledge about these things. Maybe Home Warranties rely on this to get money and still deny claims so as not to have to pay.

With the coils being dirty, it causes improper airflow resulting in the condeser fan overworking and overheating causing the unit to shut down. When it rains, it pours and I was having one electrical problem after another. When one outlet stopped working I just ignored it but immediately after, another did the same. Then the hallway light switch went out. I remember my Total Home rep explaining that electrical repairs are included in my plan. I gave them a call and had a technician scheduled to come out. Having a home warranty was one of the most beneficial decisions I've made as a home owner. There was an electrical short in my stove that caused it to malfunction the other day while I was cooking. I was nervous that it would cause some sort of fire, and possibly hurt me or someone else. I called Total Home Protection and scheduled a repairman to come by and take a look at my stove. He was able to fix it right away, and urged me to call them back as soon as possible if it happened again. Unfortunately, that was the case, but this time, they had to replace my stove. I was grateful that the replacement was covered. Paying that out of pocket would have been extremely overwhelming, but thanks to my home warranty all the visits from the repairman, the initial repair and replacement were covered by my home warranty. I happily paid my deductible. I am enjoying my new stove. It definitely gives me a lot of peace of mind knowing that my stove is safe to use.

Last year my fridge stopped working and I was in danger of losing a whole freezer's worth of food! I had no idea that I could purchase anything like this to cover the damages not only to the home itself, but also to all of my appliances. It’s summer now and it was 93 degrees the other day! Our air conditioner decided it was going to stop working. Inside of our house was over 90 degrees and it was unbearable. We tried everything we could to fix it ourselves with no luck. We have a new baby and we called Total Home right away. They got someone out to us the same day. It was fixed super fast. I was so grateful because we didn’t have to go stay with family until the air conditioner was fixed. The technician that came was great and it was so easy to call and use our warranty. I had some problems with my refrigerator. I decided to use my home warranty for the first time and I was really pleased. I was concerned that my coverage would be denied because my refirigerator was such an old model, but the woman I spoke with in customer service (Emily) assured me that repairs could be done and covered regardless of the make and model. Emily answered all my questions before scheduling a contractor to come out. He assessed the damage and told me that my fridge was beyond repair. I called Emily again and she processed a claim for a replacement fridge. In two days time, I had a brand new fridge. I now have a functioning refrigerator that works great. Home warranties are a must have.

I wasn't sure about this warranty at first. My wife talked me into it and frankly, I forgot about it until my washing machine died and leaked water all over the top floor of my house. I'm used to doing all of the repairs in my house, but this one I did not want to attempt. The warranty came in handy. The repairs were pretty extensive, I think, but they were covered and done quickly. I can't say enough about how glad I am I went with these guys. Sometimes you just need to leave it to the professionals.

This company is HORRIBLE!! They do not return call, send follow-up emails, notify you of claim information, respond to vendors in timely manner. I had vendor come to my house for scheduled appointment. He called Total Protect using his vendor provided number and was informed the smoke detectors wasn't covered. He left and because I was already on hold for 1 hour at the same time with Total Protect and finally got through, they informed me the smoke detectors was covered. The customer service is bad as well. They truly don't care about the customer experience. You get the impression that they really don't care how you respond to the circumstances they put you in. I hope Pentagon Federal Credit Union removes them from their site or from providing any marketing material on Total Protect behalf.

HORRIBLE COMPANY.....DON'T EVEN THINK OF USING THIS SCAM!!! We called about our plumbing backing up, and they said it was a pre-existing condition. We had our washing machine go out 5 months later and they said they didn't have any service people near us (we live 30 minutes from a metropolitan area). We have several companies that work on appliances in our town. We called twice, trying to cancel our policy and all they did was hang up on us. We had to stop payment at the bank. As soon as they hung up on us the second time when we tried to cancel, we called to stop payment at our bank. Our bank stated that they were trying to withdraw the money at that time. Our bank stopped the payment quickly. We tell everyone we know about what this company did to us and are making a report to the Business Bureau.

What a fraud company Great sales pitch No professionals available for service!!! No return emails or return calls (even after 48 hrs as per their policy) I had to make several calls and when I finally speak to customer rep they tell untruths. They told us that their policy covers most of everything. What they don't tell you is it doesn't cover mechanical parts for the furnace or the lines for the septic tank. Their customer service is rude. This is not a good company. Tim D is not a honest person at all. This company is a fraud!!!!!

Who knew long-term warranties for household items existed? Total Home Protection is the perfect service for anyone looking for extra support for their home. Their Platinum plan that covers washers & dryers and EVEN built-in microwaves was such a Godsend. Right before my husband's family arrived for an extended stay, my dryer and our microwave decided to malfunction to what we thought was the point of disrepair. My husband was frustrated and ready to purchase a new dryer and rip out built-in microwave right out of its nook but I quickly remembered that we had recently purchased a THP plan. I contacted them and they immediately selected and scheduled servicemen for the next day. I was so impressed with the caliber of the service workers. They were quick, professional and pleasant. Also, both items were covered by my plan. I was left with a tiny deductible. So impressed!!!

This was the worst experience from a service company that I ever had. We had issue with our refrigerator and before we could finish explaining they just said "NO, it not covered", even though it was. We eventually convinced them to send someone out and the repairman even told us it was covered. We relayed that and they still denied the claim. We eventually agreed that this wasn't working and they would PARTIALLY refund some of our membership only if we agreed not to say anything bad about them. Well this is my $400 review because they didn't refund anything. They just ignored us and hoped it went away. There are many more good service companies than this one.

The one thing I know as a technician when it comes to home warranty is that most consumers feel they are receiving horrible service from the technicians. So wouldn't you think that a good tech that takes good care of their customers and treats them with respect would be a value to the THP? Not so with THP. I'm a plumber who thought I would give this company a try in order to increase my customer base. I treat my customers with a solid and consistent 5 star rated service. I performed only 2 service calls. The first one took over 3 months to receive payment (after multiple calls every month) and the other I have been waiting 10 weeks and still nothing. Call after call they are rude and cold. (except for the last one who was actually very nice but couldn't help much because the billing dept was closed). I asked to be removed from the vendors list and she said ok but that would delay payment 6 months. WOW. I couldn't believe my ears. I have kindly asked them to call the customers that I did work for with their company and ask them how they liked my services. Knowing they would get a great response. Then asked her why they treat good techs. so bad when they should appreciate them since there are so few in their pool. I can only imagine how they treat their customers.

April 2018: Please do yourself a favor and DON'T PURCHASE a warranty from this company. My air conditioning unit was acting up, so I called to have it fixed. Two days after my initial call, I had to call them again. They finally sent a technician out to look at the unit. He concluded that the coil was leaking in the condenser and that the unit would need to be replaced. (The unit had no freon, so a leak was fairly obvious.) He went back and submitted the diagnosis. Total Home Protection told him he had to conduct a leak inspection at my cost. So, I spent $286 to have a complete leak detection done. Then they denied the claim because they said the technician told them the unit had not been serviced. In actual fact, the unit had been serviced on June 15 of 2017. By the way, they never bothered to call me to let me know the claim had been denied. I had to call them after waiting 2 days. The technician denies telling them that the unit had not been serviced and wouldn't have known anyway since I used a different company the prior year. I ended up having the unit replaced at my own cost.

Without HEAT in sub zero weather for 10 days!!! Failed to mail me a check for reimbursement. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE ever!! Stay away from!!! They DO not have 24/7 coverage. You get an answering system on the week-end and even when I stated it was an emergency the answering system failed to report my issue. The only heating contractor they had was a joke. They spend hours at my house and could not find the problem. When I finally hired someone myself I had heat back on within hours. This was going days without because of the incompetent contractor they had which was the only one in our area. I large in a large city too. The claim was filed on January 22nd for the company I used. It was approved on February 13th. It is April 9th and they still haven't mailed me a check.

Once the unit was repaired we were advised there was another issue and the customer opted to get her own technician. We were advised there was an electrical issues that had to do with the thermostat. A reimbursement check was processed but due to an internal error, the system did not drop the check within the 15-30 days. We apologize for the delay but we are ensuring the check gets expedited. STAY AWAY THEY ARE THE WORST I had a contract with Total Home Protection as of 7/14/17, I filed a claim on my Tankless hot water heater that is an added coverage that I pay extra for, that started leaking, they sent out one of there contracted plumbers who sent the co. a repair estimate of $1117 and a replace estimate of $2500. The Co. then offered me $500 saying it is a "plumbing issue" witch it is not. I said that is not acceptable and was told they would see what they could do about getting more money. When they got back to me they told me they will not pay anything for the claim now because it is not covered because of "rust and corrosion" that is not covered. I talked to the plumber they had come out and he agreed that the corrosion was caused my the leak and not that the corrosion caused the leak. They still refused to pay the claim but would now pay me $200 to close out the claim and cancel out the contract to get rid of me.They also have a limit for all claims of $1500 but I was told by there sales person that there is NO limit on what they would pay out to replace or repair a tankless hot water heater and I have him recorded saying so. So as others have seen there sales people lie and will say anything to get you to buy there worthless protection.The main reason I purchased this contract was for the hot water heater if I know there was a limit of $500 or $1500 I would not have done so. Also this review site is a scam this company should have a 1 star rating .

The claim was assigned to American Plumber LLC. As per the diagnosis the failure was due to rust and/or corrosion, as well as failure to flush and perform maintenance on the unit: This customer states that the corrosion was caused by the leak, then what caused the leak? As per the diagnosis rust/corrosion This Agreement covers only repairs and/or replacements due to mechanical failure attributable to ordinary wear and tear. Accordingly, the Agreement does not cover failures which may result from other causes, such as without limitation abuse; misuse and/or neglect; lack of maintenance; rust and/or corrosion; noise without a related mechanical failure; chemical or sedimentary build up; lightning strikes; missing parts; animal, pet and/or pest damage; power failure; power surge; fire; casualty; acts of God; structural and/or property damage; flood; smoke; earthquake; freeze damage; accidents; war; acts of terrorism; nuclear explosion, reaction, radiation or radioactive contamination; insurrection; riots; vandalism; or intentional destruction of property. This Agreement does not cover mechanical failures resulting directly or indirectly from or caused by mold, mildew, mycotoxins, fungus, bacteria, virus, condensation, and/or wet or dry rot regardless of the source, origin, or location and any other cause or event contributing concurrently or in any sequence to the mechanical failure. In an effort to provide good customer service, we originally offered the customer the CAP amount on a water heater of $500.00 which the customer rejected for this non-covered claim. Unfortunately, the consumer rejected our goodwill gesture and opted to terminate their contract. As a courtesy we waived the $50 early termination fee. So disappointed . After talking at length to the sales person who I thought was nice and honest I bought a policy. Feeling that I would have total protection for our condo in Fl . Well what seems to good to be true usually is. I now feel foolish to have been scammed . Our airconditioner broke and we thought thank goodness we had a policy. After a week of constant calls to them with only them only saying we will call you back with information we ended up with them offering us $ 575.00 on an $ 3900 estimate. I’m still shocked that is all they would do. So many non cover items and deductions all in the fine details. You want to believe you can trust people but again you live and learn. I asked all the right questions and they had all the right answers .

Wost Home Warranty company Ever!! you are on hold for 3-5 hrs, it took 30 hrs of calling daily for 2 months before I could get a plumber; every plumber they referred to either talked scrap about this company or they do not service my area and when I finally got a plumber to come out to fix and assessed my issues and now waiting on the company to approve replacement which we are now in our 2nd month as well. Think about it I made this claim in October 2017 and still waiting the Total HP to approve the plumber's submission for replacement, it is now Feb 2018!!

Total fail in every way! First call was for a clogged sink. The plumber failed to unclog the sink so I had to pay $45 for nothing. In the process he removed the drain hose from the washer unbeknownst to me thereby flooding the entire downstairs when I used the washer. Second call was for a breaker. I asked over the phone if they cover that before sending someone out. When someone came out, the claim was denied so I had to pay another $45 for absolutely nothing. The tech told me this company denies all claims. Good information to have before you waste your money with these crooks.

This company is a waste of your money. Their claims service is very bad. My microwave went out in October of last year, they said they could not fix it and would replace it. It has not been replaced and they tell me I have to spend $200.00 + before they will do the work. My contract does not read that way. I have reported the company to the Insurance Commissioner and will follow up with an attorney if need be. Don't give your money to a company that does business in bad faith like this one. They has also opted to discontinue my policy.

If I could put less than 1 Star I would. Do not, DO NOT use this company! I had a problem with my air conditioner/ heater unit. This home was built in 2013, 4 years old. When temperatures dropped low the unit would not heat the home. The tech came and said that the capacitor was bad. They covered it. Two weeks later, heater will not heat the home. Tech says that the compressor is bad. Total Home Protection says it is “secondary” damage and not covered because the capacitor caused the compressor to go bad. EVERYTHING after the first repair is “secondary” damage. They want to repair your unit piecemeal and that makes ALL subsequent repairs “secondary” and NOT COVERED!!! They will cover the $45 capacitor BUT NOT THE $2500 compressor! That’s why I bought the warranty when I bought the home! Do not trust these people. The advertisements make false claims!

UPDATE: The issue I had with Total Home warranty has been resolved.. Total Home Protection will do everything they can to not approve your claims. I was contact by them and sold a home warranty. Into my contract, I had a heating furnace that stopped working. They sent out a technician who recommended replacing the high pressure switch due to normal wear and tear and the age of the unit. Total Home protection called me to deny coverage of this replacement due to dust on the part and that I did not maintain the unit. Actually I did maintain the unit and submitted proof of the invoice for this maintenance and still they denied my claim. They told me I should of maintained the furnace twice a year not just once a year. I even talked again to the technician who could not believe that they denied my claim. I then called back again for a supervisor and he finally agreed that there is no good reason to deny my claim but that he still had to get their authorization department head to approve. I followed up the very next day and every time i called his extension he was not available. I left 4 voice mails and still no return calls. I even spoke to someone else in his department who said they would have him call me back right way, still no response. This is a horrible company to do business with, they do not honor their policies or take care of their customers. They will say anything to get you to sign up and take your money and then leave you out in the cold. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER WITH THIS COMPANY!!! STAY FAR AWAY, THERE ARE MUCH BETTER HOME WARRANTY COMPANIES OUT THERE THAT ACTUALLY HONOR WHAT THEY SAY.

This system is easy to arm & disarm. I trust this unit for my protection. My only complaint is that extra camera , etc are to expensive to add to package.
