I have not had a very positive experience with them. I even had one of their customer service representatives tell me that I was stupid and hung up on me. My furnace went out when it was about about 15 degrees outside. They refused to help me at first they told me that I had to go sign with some people to service myself and and then held my check for about 67 days after I paid the invoice and they had guaranteed 30 days. It was more than twice that.

Have had this company for several years and we’ll they always have some way to charge more. This time I had a problem and they came out like thay say and I paid the service fee. But not I get email that I need to pay anothe fee becouse the furance has a warranty and they have to do the paper work for it $100.00 The company that installed the furance was sent by HWA a year ago and now will not service it so when it need work I called HWA and now have to pay more to get it repaired.

It took almost a year to get my fridge fixed. They send 5 or 6 different companies out that all repeated the same repairs over and over again. I had my temp sensor and other things changed 5 times. When you call and you try to speak to a manager they will not connect you. The manager calls you back but in a way that your phone doesn't ring it. They just leave a voicemail and tell you to call back the main number. I tried speaking to a manager for 6 months and still haven't been able to do so.

After one call the claim was denied. I received an email to inform me of the decision which said was reached after speaking to the technician and to me. I had never spoken with anyone from the company and when I talked with the technician he said he never discussed the issue that was the basis of the decision. After a second call for another problem I was informed about the delay it would take to process the order. I wanted the order to go quickly to the technician I previously worked with and the customer service rep could not do anything to make that happen. I masked to speak to a manager and the rep was extremely rude. It led to me raising my voice (which I have never done to a rep in the past) and the rep continued to not provide an answer to my question. I hung up and called back, I spoke to someone who gave me incorrect information. I had to call again and finally spoke with someone who made an attempt to help me by checking the system, calling the technician and getting back to me (while I was on the line). So much unnecessary hassle

These people refuse to replace appliances with like-quality items while using questionable contractors to do the work. Our top-of-the-line Carrier air conditioner was replaced with a no-name brand by technicians who lacked the ability to replace an older model hard-wired thermostat with a hard-wired programmable one—so now our thermostat has to operate on a battery. Our Insinkerator disposal died, and I contacted Insinkerator company to determine what the current model to replace it was. I gave that information to the contractor who called Home Warranty and told us that Home Warranty only allows a certain dollar amount—so we were forced to take the “builders special” model rather than the high-end model we were replacing. We will never recommend them, and we are discontinuing our insurance.

Whereas I was pleased that my hot water heater was replaced, I still had to pay out of pocket $455 for non covered items to "bring up to code". The plumbing company had to remove the trim off my door in order to install the larger replacement hot water heater. This resulted in additional cost to me to have the door and wall repaired. In today's times, it is difficult to pay out a monthly amount (for the highest package offered) and when you do attempt to use it, most times the claim will be denied because the required replacement or service is not covered. To add insult to injury, the monthly premium is going up. I am now on a fixed income and will have to seek another warranty company to switch to. I will not miss HWA at all.

The technician assigned me a claim number, ordered parts, they were delivered within three days and were installed the forth. I couldn’t have asked for more efficient service! I’m very pleased, to say the least!!

I have had HWA for 15 years since I purchased my home continuing an existing contract the previous homeowner had. If you can wait 4 weeks or so for a repair it will work out for you. HWA has replaced the outside portion of my AC unit as well as the inside portion portion and the thermostat on different occasions (Freon is extra) so it is a big plus. Unfortunately I had to suffer 5 to six weeks of mid summer heat each time this happened. However when my water heater went out they were unable to find a technician immediately and have an option to pay a portion of my technician’s fee upon approval I took that option. After a week long battle I decided to wait and let HWA do the repair. After another week or so battle with HWA who now insisted that I choose to use my own tech they could not provide one. My tech refused to deal with HWA. I ended up paying over $1200 for a replacement water heater. My mistake, wait 4 weeks and let them do it. The Final Straw. AC freezes up, contact HWA, appointment schedule one week. No show. Pissed, called HWA, a Technical arrival that evening to access problem and summit claim. Next day got an Email saying the Freon leak was not covered because it was external to unit. Pissed I called a local company that was ready to repair quoting close to $1000 to recover, repair, then replace Freon. Called HWA to cancel contract. I was referred to a Conflict Resolution who called me back within an hour. At that time I found out my contact was being served by Choice Home Warranty who did not have a history of my repairs. After I gave my history with HWA and justification for coverage much more reasonable price that allowed them to do the repair and me to keep the contract in force. Patience is a virtue.

They responded next day to a broken garage spring. The repairman informed me that the current setup for my garage door was incorrect and cheaply thrown together. Also, my garage should have had 2 springs instead of one. He fixed everything up to code with just adding the cost of the second spring. I was very happy with their service.

Per my policy, I have certain septic services, but there are no companies available,,nobody returned my call so I paid for it out of pocket. Customer service isn't fantastic,,,I get several emails for my last repair that contradicted each other. Hwa emailed me service dates when in fact the technician was already at the property. Hwa told me it was approved,,then emailed me and told me it wasn't, I then called Hwa and the person I talked to had no idea what was going on. I don't think the actual operators know what emails Hwa sends which causes confusion. My techs have been pretty good and my last tech was actually fantastic.

Only thing I dislike is that they give you a gift card to Lowe’s instead of giving you a check to buy appliances that can not be fixed. I’d like to chose where I go to buy things not having to go just to Lowe’s.

I've only had to use HWA 2 or 3 times in the four years we've been here and signed on to HWA, but it's always been a smooth and satisfactory experience each time... IF I ever sat down and did the math between the annual fee for HWA plus the per visit charge, I think my 2-3 call ins for the repairs I needed probably ended up costing me a bunch more per repair than if I would have just called a local repair guy. That said, it IS nice to know that a reputable repair person/service is available with one phone xall

Here’s another great Service of Home Warranty of America, has done for me my Garage Door Spring had broken and due to the heaviness of my double insulated door It would not open or be lifted up, contacted HWA, for service and they was able to get a service technician to my house the next day in order to get it open so I could get my car out of the garage and a week later due to the shipment of parts the technicians were able to repair it.
